Great Hotel

from cmk3026
This is a very nice hotel. The staff is friendly. Not too much in the immediate area of the hotel. There is a shuttle that runs every half hour and it ran on time. The shuttle takes you to the Pentagon City Metro stop. It will take about 20 minutes to get to DC by Metro. Also at the Metro station is a very big mall with very nice stores. The best thing I liked about this hotel is that the bed was very, very comfortable. The hotel has a very nice restaurnt that serves a great breakfast buttet. The only complaint I have is that the hotel charges 16.00 a night for parking. I would stay here again.

t stay again

I travel 5-7 times a year for the last 5 years and this has been the worst experience in my life. I had booked 2 rooms, 1 for my parents who are old, and had requested the hotel staff that we would be checking in late, early in the morning of the next day of my booking. But when I reach there, they don't have rooms for us although I paid in advance for my whole stay. On top of that the manager argued that we should have put up the request with him rather than rest of the staff. In my whole life I have never seen a manager so uncourteous and rude as him. My whole vacation was ruined and the manager made us sit for 6 hours in the lobby before giving the rooms. I wonder how could Sheraton, being so reputed, keep such rude and ineffcient persons at front desk.

PERFECT Service, PERFECT beds!!

from Valensander
I work in customer service myself and would recommend a stay at The National just to see how it's supposed to be....
Along with the excellent service in this hotel, the rooms are huge and the beds make you want to stay in them for the rest of your life....
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't need to stay in the heart of the city. The connections to the city-center are great with the free shuttle bus taking you to the Metro/Subway.
Perfect in every way. I want to go back any time!

Nice Hotel... Beware of Orbitz

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was a beautiful hotel in Arlington, VA. It is very central to almost all attractions in DC.

I bought my reservation on Orbitz and was sorely disappointed. I reserved a oversized king suite with a view of the city. The day before I called and confirmed that that was what my reservation said. They confirmed that and assured me I would get that room. The next day we arrived and were given a tiny room on the third floor overlooking some delapidated housing. I was very unhappy. they did nothing to acommodate me. I am a Starwood Hotels Club Memeber and I thought I would have been taken care of, but the staff did not seem to care.

Beware of buying a room at this hotel from orbitz. Pay a little more and get the room you really want.

The mattresses were wonderful and very comfy. I will say that room service and the bar closed entirely too early (Midnight) as we wanted a late night snack and were disappointed to find we would have to use the vending machine. :(

Nice hotel to stay in for business, but this was my anniversary and it was not very special.

Loved the staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed here (May 3-6) as a chaperone for a group of eighth graders on their annual school trip. I've been on this trip 5 times, and this was by far the nicest hotel I've stayed in. The rooms were large, clean, and tidy with tons of pillows (5).

The bathroom was large with a separate sink area just outside the door and plenty of toiletries and towels. My roomie and I both had trouble with the water temperature. It took quite a while to get warm and then got scorchingly hot very quickly. Strange and slightly inconvenient. Maid service was excellent.

I used the fitness center each morning, and it was adequate and quiet at the times I used it, but not many people have to exercise at 5 AM before touring with 13 year-olds unitl 9 PM. :)

But the absolute best part of the stay was the super friendly staff. One of our girls accidently left her pillow in a room when she was switched to a new one. The staff tried their very best to locate it. They were very polite and patient with our students. They were so pleasant when I called to set wake up calls that I went to bed with a smile on my face. I certainly hope we can stay here again in 2006.

Great Hotel

from M2inApril
I stayed at this hotel for business at the beginning of April 2005. The cherry blossoms were peaked. I was very impressed with this hotel. I believe I paid $159/night, which was supposed to be a group rate. I was put in a room on a Starwood Preferred Member floor (even though I'm not one). It was a spacious room with a great view of Washington, D.C. It was also interesting to have a view of the disheveled housing directly across the street from the hotel. I was exhausted when I arrived from the airport, so I went down to the hotel restaurant and had a delicious Caesar salad and smoked salmon entree. I was so impressed with the quality of the food. The waiters and waitresses went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful during my three day stay. There is a great breakfast buffet every day complete with fresh omelettes made to order. One drawback is that this hotel is not close to anything of interest (within walking distance), but they do provide a shuttle to Pentagon City where there is a huge mall, restaurants, and a Metro stop. Very convenient. $9.95/day for internet access. The room and bathroom were immaculate. There is a heated indoor pool and a sufficient workout room. I was impressed with the two new treadmills with TV monitors in the control panel.

Thoroughly mediocre

from lalimama
Although we got a room through Hotwire for $65/night, I think that we would've been better off staying at another hotel in DC and just paying the difference. The positives: the room itself was ok, the lobby nicely appointed. The negatives: how about workers starting loud room renovations across the hall at 7AM on Saturday? Top that off with a location far removed from ANYTHING except some rundown apartments, directions from staff that were spotty at best, a front desk that seemed to be very uninterested in client service. Very disappointing stay.

Great Hotel

from LizC
My husband and I stayed here for our 1 year anniversary. We booked through Priceline. I was a bit concerned over some reviews I read about the location and the shuttle. We were both pleased to say that this hotel far exceeded our expectations. The location is not great as you really can't walk to anything. However with a short shuttle or car ride, you are in the heart of everything DC. But the shuttle was fantastic. It is only a 5 minute shuttle ride to the nearest Metro stop at Pentagon City. Shuttle service was superb.

The front desk staff was excellent. Very helpful and informative. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with 2 doubles. I asked for a king and they immediately moved us to the 11th floor. We were in room 1125 and it was spotless, huge, and well decorated. We had a view of some apartment complexes. Best views of DC are probably on the even numbered side. Avoid staying on the lower floors as they do seem to be right off of the street and may be noisy. Lobby was very nice.

Buffet breakfast was great. Food was fresh and tasty. It was about $12 each. We about about $40 worth of food a piece it was so good.

Parking is $16/day and you do get in and out privileges. I didn't think the price was too bad considering some hotels closer to the city charge $30. The garage was well lit.

Overall, a great hotel and I will stay there again without a doubt

Good Value for Money

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Sheraton National Hotel for two nights commencing 1 January 2005.

I was given a double room on the ninth floor facing Washington DC. The room was large with a King size bed, desk and television cabinet. Some of the major sites of Washington could be seen from the room window (Pentagon, Washington Monument, Captiol etc). The service provided by the front desk staff was very good.

The room was clean, but was starting to show signs of age. A large 20cm long crack was evident in the bathroom sink. This sink should have been repaired/replaced a long time ago.

The free hotel shuttle bus is a necessity as the hotel is not located near any public transport (or anything else useful for visitors). The shuttle bus drops off/picks up at the Pentagon City Metro station and National Airport (DCA). The shuttle bus pickup times at Pentgon City appear to be very erratic and patience will definately be required by those using this service.

At US$69/night (+taxes), the Sheraton National Hotel represents very good value for money, provided you can accept being located outside the Washington DC city centre and the approximatley 30 minute trip (shuttle bus/metro) each way to get to/from the city centre.

Very Nice

from Lambdachi6
Very nice gym for a hotel. Nice views of the Capitol. Rooms and beds are clean and comfortable. A better choice than the Crystal City Sheraton, although the the Crystal City Sheraton is across the street from the metro station.

Top Local Tips for Arlington

Concerts - Shopping - Restaurants Go down (south ) Columbia Pike from the hotel (Sheraton National) and turn right on South Joyce. The shopping area with restaurants and free concerts is on your left. Metered parking inside and around.

August weather August is not a good time to visit the DC area because of the hot and humid conditions. Bring your shorts, and walking shoes!

Destination DC Sightseers Arlington is a terrific way to see everything in DC but not staying "in the city".
