Historical Traveller Reviews of Radisson Reagan National Airport Hotel
Stay was okay but found a roach and rate was changed on me midstay
I rented a Sleep number bed, regular room with free highspeed internet. The room appeared exactly as it does on their website. I reserved the room through their website since it was alittle cheaper there then it was on orbitz and other such sites that I checked. It is a pretty decent room. I stayed for two nights, Jan 7-9. The room had two beds which were both the Sleep number type with plush comforters and pillows. There is a mini fridge and microwave in the room. There is a desk in the room. You do not need your own USB cable to hook up to the high speed in the room. I think you will need one if you choose to stay in a non Sleep number bed room. The access was pretty slow when you first connect but picks up speed later. The window in the room can be opened as well. The bathroom had nothing special about it. It had the basic amenities as any other hotel. The location is great in that it is a mile or two to National Reagan Airport. The hotel does provide a shuttle. There are restaurants and entertainment within walking distance from the hotel such as Legal Seafood, Chilis, Mccormicks and the usual fast food places. They do charge for parking $18 put I choose to park on the street. The spaces do have meters but you do not pay of course after 6pm and on Sundays. There are also spaces in front of the apartment complex behind the hotel that are free (they fill pretty quickly). If you stay for more then one night the housekeeping will not pick up your room until the afternoon. Now for the negative: This morning (my check out day) when I went into the bathroom there was a roach crawling around. I saw that my bill had been pushed under the door during the night and I noticed that they did not honor the internet rate for the second night. I was suppose to pay $79 a night but it had been changed to $129 without my knowledge. At checkin I signed the registration card for the $79 rate that I reserved under online, it even says on their websites that rates are available for a max of 30days. I went down to the desk and the agents there could not careless. I was told that the rate had changed. I stated to her that it was not so much that the rate had changed but that they had changed it without my knowledge. Nothing was done to fix the problem. Overall the stay was okay but from my experience, they are lacking in customer service and honoring their rates that are online. I would say to anyone that is considering to stay here is make sure to get a print out each night of what you are being charged they may change the rate on you also. That whole situation put a sour taste in my mouth and I will not be staying here again. I would also skip the restaurant. I is overpriced and there are great restaurants across the street.
Only Place to Stay for DC Trips
Simply the best place to stay for visiting DC. Having lived in the area for 8 years previously, I visit friends in the are at least once a year, so I've stayed in a variety of hotels in the area but this was by far the best for several reasons. First, a simple call to the hotel after picking up my luggage and the hotel shuttle was at the airport in 5 minutes. I arrived before check-in but was able to check-in anyway. I reserved a room with a sleep number bed. What fun that was - playing with the settings each night. The room was very clean and I appreciated the duvet on the bed rather than bedspreads which don't appear to be washed regularly. The bathroom was updated and in excellent condition with great water pressure, and even granite counter tops. The hotel is about 3 blocks from the Crystal City Underground shops and Metro station. The shuttle will take you, but it's an easy walk. I used the business center off the lobby to check-in to my departing flight, and with the exception of the printer being jammed and the browser timed out so I could print my boarding pass (the sky cap was able to print one for me at the airport curb) I had no complaints. There is a rental car place right next door, along with a 7-11 and several restaurants on the next block. I reserved the room on the Radisson website and got a rate of $79/nt. which is unheard of in the area, especially for such a great place. It's where I'll stay from now on!
High Standard Hotel
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights from Oct 26th to Oct 30th. We stayed in other Radisson hotels in Europe before and always found them to be quite satisfactory. We were very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to others. Our stay included a weekend for which we were charged $99 per night as compared to $189 for Thurs night. So staying over a weekend made good sense. The room was surprisingly large and was equipped with coffee maker,fridge/freezer,microwave and large t.v. The extra large bed with its "sleep number" system was great and very comfortable.Everything was well maintained and furniture etc was of a high standard. On arrival at 10pm we ordered a chicken sandwich and were treated to practically a full meal which included fries and all for $8 each. Not having a free breakfast didn't bother us as we had a great breakfast in "Philadelphia Mikes" across the road in Crystal City shopping centre for $6 each. The metro is so easily accessible and a daily ticket for $6.50 is good value.(Metro is so clean ,safe and easy to use too)This hotel is in a great location for seeing Washington and indeed the city is well worth a visit.......full of culture, museums(all free!) and it is particularly beautiful in autumn with wonderful colours and squirrels running around your feet.! It doesn't take long to travel back to this hotel from the city and that's important too as there is a lot of walking to be done in the city in order to see everything and you can get quite tired by evening time. There are a good selection of restaurants around for evening meals and as we were there over the Marathon weekend the area was full of life. We travelled to New York from Washington for another 4 nights and though we were pleased with our N.Y. hotel it did not compare with this one for value and comfort. So, GO for it! From Contented Travellers, Drogheda, Ireland.
My school stayed at the Radisson Hotel Reagen National Airport last week for 4 day for the DECA confence that was taking place in the city. I have to say that the hotel looked very professional and the rooms were very clean and beautiful as well the bathroom was a cleaned every morning and was stop less when we checked in. The room services was great and the coffee maker in the room was great. The conference was a nice size for our group and I enjoyed the complementry internet and the wireless internet in the lobbby very much. Thank you for making my stay in DC great.
What I love about my trip to Washington was my stay at this hotel. Sometimes you are wary when you look online and the photos look great but in the back of your mind you're wondering, if the this is the real deal once you arrive. The staff greated us warmly and we had no problems with the online booking we had made and our great rate was the same, the hotel itself was obviously clean and tastefully decorated. Radisson offers a 24 hr business room with about four computers to use, the vending machines and maps of the Washington were well stocked. Our room itself was a very good sized room, the Sleep Number beds they offer are pure bliss after a long day of walking, the tv selection was nice and even offered a coffee/microwave and fridge area. The bathroom was a typical hotel bathroom but it was well stocked with little nick naks, and a special thankyou to the maid who made sure our linens were changed everyday, and added her own special touch to our room. My husband also tried out the drycleaning service, and promptly was given back his clothing that same day. You can't go wrong with this hotel, it's near to Crystal City Metro and Pentagon City Mall is just around the corner and if not the hotel shuttle will take you there if needed!!!
We were pleased with our 2 night stay at this hotel. The room was clean and nicely decorated. We rented a car and the hotel's parking was convenient ($10 day charge.) It was a couple blocks from the metro. Very close to the airport. There is not much to do in the immediate area. We walked around a little but it was quite deserted. There is a Chili's and Legal Seafood nearby. Most of the Crystal City shops closed early or weren't open on the weekends. There was a shopping plaza maybe a mile down the road, but you need a car to get to it. (Maybe the bus would take you there). The area seemed safe but because it seemed so deserted it was a little unnerving at night.
Good value for the area
from A frequent and discerning traveller
This hotel was previously a Days Inn, and this is apparent in the internal decor. The rooms have been somewhat refurbished, and were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are a little small and pokey, but I wouldn't say this is a reason not to stay there.
The hotel is really close to National Airport - we didn't use their shuttle service. If you arrive in a car, they will charge $10 for parking.
If you want ambiance and good food or drinks, don't eat/drink at the hotel restaurant - there are many good restaurants nearby, on 20th Street (turn right out of the hotel, and turn right at the Exxon gas station which is on the corner), including very good Mexican and Thai restaurants.
There are also a number of good places to eat across the road from the hotel (Jaleo - a good tapas restaurant; for the morning - Corner Bakery a Starbucks, etc.) I would advise not to try to park at these - just walk, because they are very close.
Compared to other hotels in the vicinity of Arlington, we got a good deal (but it was still $263 including taxes). So if you do plan a stay in this area, make sure to shop around and plan ahead of time.
Great location, so-so property
As other reviews say, the location for the Radisson is great, it's only about a 2 block walk from the Metro stop (although you need to know to look for the Days Inn, not the Radisson on the maps outside the Metro stop).
The hotel itself is nothing special. It is the old Days Inn, and it shows. The rooms are okay, but pretty plain and lacking in attention to detail. For instance, the alarm clock near the bed had no nearby plug, so I had to move it to the opposite side of the room to plug it in. Also, the bathroom vanity is tiny. And, the two most interesting things to happen on my stay were that the headboard fell off of the bed (without any prompting from me, but it just slid down and clunked on the floor) and when I went to the bar (a whole 5 bar stools!) and asked what type of beer they had the woman pointed at the disconnected taps and said "no beer." I asked if they had any in bottles, and got the one word answer "yes." When I asked what beer they had in bottles she replied "domestic and imported." Let's just say I finally ended up asking for "domestic" and was happy to get a drink.
This is a simple hotel, fine for business travellers on a budget; there are plenty of nice restaurants within one to two blocks and the Metro is very convenient. Don't go looking for anything special, just a simple, convenient place to stay.
Great Hotel for the price!
I was a little worried after reading some reviews, but this hotel was clean, good location , and surely you won't be disappointed. They did try to charge me for parking even though on Orbitz it stated free parking. I contacted orbitz and the charges were reversed. I noticed some reviewers mentioned a free breakfast, I was told it was not free and was not given it. Overall I believe this hotel was well worth the price I paid, well under $100 per night.
Clean and Safe
If your looking for a safe, clean, hotel near great resturants and the Metro look no further. The Radission is less than 1 mile from the airport and they provide free suttle service.
Don't rent a car, the Metro is 2 blocks away and is easy to learn how to do. It was about $1.35 to get to the Capital area and back per person. The Metro was also very safe. We toured all Smithonians and monuments etc with the Radission as our base camp. We were very happy.
Traveling with 3 kids we were concerned about a safe neighborhood and Crystal City is a good one. We did not run into any homeless people around our hotel, but there were plenty in DC.
There are lots of great resturants within a few blocks of the hotel that we thought were very reasonable, around $10 per person. We especially liked the Mongolian and Italian ones.
We also highly recomend the Grey Line Tour "DC by Moonlight" We learned a lot, saw all of them in 3 hours, and never pulled out a map!
Top Local Tips for Arlington
Short cut to the Metro
Go out the front of the hotel and turn left. Cut across to the Marriott Crystal City and go downstairs. It connects through underground corridors to the metro. Definitely nicer in the rain or at night.
great Metro system
The Washington DC area metro system is superb and Arlington is just a short ride away from the National Mall by subway. A daily or weekly pass makes travel on the Metro very convenient.
Close to Regan National
This hotel was convienently located next to Regan National Airport and the shuttle service to and from the hotel was easy and efficient. It was also very close to the Metro which we used almost exclusively during our stay.
