Great Place!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We've been staying at this hotel for the past 10 years, on and off, and although it was always a good place to "camp out", often it was difficult getting the room type/location we wanted. A new General Manager has recently taken over and in addition to an emphasis on the staff being friendly (everyone actually says hello!) all the rooms have been renovated along with the dining areas. It also now seems to be possible to get the room type/location requested when making a reservation. The food at the restaurant on the lobby level (American something) is quite good for hotel food. We had dinner there this past weekend and were pleased. Haven't been up to JW's restaurant at the top lately. Food there was usually OK but unimaginative and somewhat expensive. Too many good restaurants in the area anyway! Location is just 2 blocks from the Metro (which can take you to the Mall etc.) and it is a short walk over the bridge to get to M street in Georgetown - or you can take a shuttle over which stops in the front of the hotel for $ 1. Cabs to just about anywhere in the city run around $10- $15 depending on whether you are coming or going (rides from DC to the hotel are always more expensive). Indoor/outdoor pool is a good size with 2 life guards always present. Self parking garage is $ 12 per night and although recently increased, is still a good value compared to the DC rates. I definitely recommend staying here for a Washington visit.

…and the location can’t be beat!

We found this hotel to be absolutely great…and the location can’t be beat! If you are looking for a great place to stay that is affordable, clean and convenient, then this is it! My fiancé & I stayed for 4 nights the week of July 18 and felt that the service and amenities were fabulous. We would absolutely stay here again. The $249 price quote on the Marriot web site is a bit high for this place…but if you can get something on-line in the low to mid $100’s, then it is well worth it.
The walk to the Metro was 5-7 minutes and really wasn’t bad at all…..even in 90+ degree weather! It takes 5-10 minutes on the Metro to get to anywhere in DC from this location. And if you’ve ever used the Metro system, then you know how clean and easy it is to get around! From the hotel, you can walk to Georgetown in 10 minutes or take the Georgetown Trolley (little blue bus for $1) right from the hotel. Given the temps the week we were there, we used this several times. It was a well worth it and so incredibly convenient. After a long day of site-seeing, we were able to go back to the hotel to enjoy the pool, rest-up and then take the “trolley/blue bus” to get over to Georgetown for dinner. We didn’t have a car & never missed it! The taxi ride from the airport (National) was only $12 w/tip.
The pool was great – courtyard type area with plenty of lounge chairs & a few tables. The fitness rooms had great equipment…cardio, weights and TV’s! We found the lobby and our room to be nicely decorated. Since this hotel is a bit older, I was surprised at how nice the interior is. The carpet, drapes & other room features were clearly new…and so clean…as were all areas of the hotel.
The breakfast buffet was a bit pricey but the quality of the food & quantity of choices was not like your typical buffet. We ate there once and were not hungry again until very late in the afternoon!! We didn’t eat at the rooftop restaurant (but did check out the view – which was nice). We prefer to eat out of the hotel while on vacation. We were thrilled with all of our choices and would highly recommend all of these places:
Clydes (Georgetown) J. Pauls (Georgetown) Old Ebbet Grille (not far from the Whithouse) Cabanas (Georgetown/at the Harbor) Gordon Biersh (across from the Spy Museum – which was a lot of fun).
I consider myself somewhat picky and like a nice place to stay. My fiancé travels quite a bit for work and therefore has stayed in many hotels. We were both very pleased with the Keybride Marriott and have already told some friends that they should consider a trip to DC and a stay at this hotel.

Wedding Night/Honeymoon Diaster

from A TripAdvisor Member
We choose to stay here on our wedding night and to kick off our honeymoon because it was supposed to have a view of the fireworks from the room. We had made our reservations months in advance and I called 3 days prior to check in to confirm our reservations. After our wedding we arrive to find that they had lost our reservations. They told us all the rooms with a view had been sold out but they had a comparable room available for us. When we go to find our room, we realized there are different towers and not all the elevators go to all the floors. They never mentioned this to us. So here we are, exhausted from the wedding, my feet are killing me and we're walking all over the hotel in our tux and wedding gown. We FINALLY find our room only to discover that our card keys don't work. We use the phone on the floor to call down to the front desk who said they'd send someone to let us in. I'm not sure how much time they left us standing in the hall, but we were able to meet 5 different neighbors during that time. Someone finally comes to let us in and the room was NOT comparable in the least. It was smaller, had no view and was not worth the extra money we paid for the room with a view. Completely exhausted and frustrated, with my feet still killing me, I had to walk back down to the front desk in my gown to complain. The front desk clerk started to say she couldn't help us when another clerk, Alain, had overheard us and said he'll see what he could do. He apologized and gave us the room with a view we originally reserved. After all that, we weren't in a good mood and considered cancelling the second night's reservation. But we were completely exhausted and really wanted to kick off the honeymoon being able to view the fireworks from our room. So the next night, we get back to the room right before the fireworks start only to find our card key doesn't work! We call back down to the front desk and they said stay there, they'd send someone. We ask them to hurry as we are trying to catch the fireworks. After awhile standing in the hall listening to the fireworks, my husband runs down to get a key himself so we can at least catch some of the show. He comes back saying they wouldn't give him a key because the room is under my name even though he checked us in. So we wait longer. Finally, Security arrives to let us in our room to find the fireworks had just ended. Rodney, the security guy, was sincerely sorry and offered us breakfast in the morning. But that's not what we had wanted and we were still very upset. We went back down to speak with the manager who explained the card keys may not work if they are close to cell phones, keys or credit cards but they don't have time to tell all the guests this. Apparently they didn't have time to tell guests this after the first time their card key didn't work either. She ended up reducing the rate for us but really, that doesn't come close to making up for all our troubles. We would have rather paid full price to have our wedding night and the first night of our honeymoon back. After speaking to the manager, we go back upstairs purposely keeping our card key away from cell phones, keys and credit cards and guess what? Our card keys don't work and we're locked out of our room AGAIN!! We are so sorry we trusted this hotel with our special event and obviously would NEVER stay here again.

Nice Hotel

The Hotel was a little farther from the METRO than I expected... about 3-4 "blocks" and took about 10 minutes walking, which is considerable if you have luggage. The room was GREAT! Very Clean and the linens were very soft. I believe the internet broadband access as 9.95 for my entire stay. At least I used it on two different days both in the evenings and early mornings and that was all I was charged. There are two restaurants. JW Steakhouse on the roof, which was very expensive, and only a limited amount of steaks on the menu, but also had chops and chicken.

The breakfast buffet was about $15 and was very good, and I had dinner in their main dining room once and it was good. However, I will say, that when I checked out their menus, I saw a Bread Pudding, with bourbon sauce and rum raisn ice cream on the menu from JW's. It was not on the menu for their main dining room, but I asked nicely and the restaurant supervisor brought it to me! It was GREAT!

We will stay here again!

My wife and I recently spent five nights at the Marriott Key Bridge hotel as part of a vacation package we purchased online for a great price. Our experience with this hotel far exceeded our expectations. Our room was very nice, as were all the public areas we observed. The staff was not only extremely friendly and helpful but also seemed genuinely concerned in making us feel comfortable and welcome during our stay. We were so impressed by our visit that we are now planning on repeating this vacation again sometime in the near future. Marriott management should know what a great staff they have at this location.

Very good, not perfect

Stayed at the Key Bridge Marriott while on business 24-28 April, 2005. Room quiet and very comfortable. Loads of quality towels and amenities in bathroom. Staff mostly helpful (more so at check out time than during check in process). Very high prices in the bar and restaurant, plus slow service; however, food was good. Location is good, near Georgetown, Kennedy Center, etc. but it seemed a fairly long walk to the Metrorail station. Obviously some + and - but overall no major complaints or problems.

Not the worst...far from the best!

Quick room service. Room renovations/updating would be beneficial. Room was dirty.

The Key Bridge Marriott is the one and only hotel i ever stay at when i am visiting the D.C. area. There is a 15 minute walk to Georgetown from the hotel. All you have to do is walk across the Key Bridge. Since I am a platinum member, the fantastic breakfast was free and I had chocolate covered strawberries, Haggen Daz ice-cream, fruit, wine, and Pellegrino sparklingwater sent up to my room at absolutely no charge. So i would definately stay here!! Oh yeah, there is also a gift shop, gym, and swimming pool! Enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!!

We were impressed!

Just returned from the Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, and had our first ever stay at this location. WOW. We are picky, picky, picky, and this hotel was flawless in every respect with one teeny-tiny negative in that the bed was softer than we prefer. We didn't care, because whoever has been in charge of employee training at this property has really done his/her job. Our room was (I think) a standard without a view (our choice) so it was not a particularly desireable or large room. It appeared freshly decorated in lovely fabrics, and someone must have cleaned the bathroom on hands and knees with a toothbrush. Maybe it was just the marathon hoopla, but everyone on the staff was just top notch and friendly beyond belief. The manager on duty stood in the lobby to personally congratulate the runners as they finished the race and returned to their room. Late checkouts were given with grace. We used room service twice (reasonable $ and promptly served) and dined once in the rooftop steakhouse. Not cheap, but a lovely meal with a superb wait staff. We have been attending this function for 15 years -- and really regret not having stayed here before. HINT: ask the concierge to schedule an in-room massage with Tim, the massage therapist from heaven.

Good Hotel / Good Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from spending the weekend of October 20, 2004 at this hotel. I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews posted here, but we already had reservations that we had made with friends from out of town, so we followed through. Our room was $129 per night and we booked on hotels.

The hotel was clean and as another poster stated, "exactly what you would expect from a Marriott". Our room was decorated nicely and of average size. The hotel does have updated room appointments such as down (like) comforters and they also offer an evening turn-down service. I found this to be a pleasant touch.

The restaurant was decent, we had a late dinner there after our arrival on Friday night. The bar, however, was EXTREMELY smoky and we weren't permitted to take cocktails into the lobby. We opted to just go back to our rooms.

The location was good, right across the river from Georgetown. We were told it was a considerable walk, so I would recommend that you use a car or public transportation. There is a Georgetown shuttle that runs from the hotel that only costs $1 each way.

All in all, I found this hotel to be nice and we weren't disappointed. If you're looking for a boutique style hotel in a residential neighborhood, keep looking. But if you're looking for a moderate priced chain hotel in a more remote location (not much within walking distance) then this is the place for you! Enjoy your stay!
