Good location with reservationsfrom JES130
The Holiday Inn met my goals but it may not be for everyone. It is a great value as we did the Best Breaks package, $99.95 per night with a breakfast vouchure for two promised. The staff was lovely, very courteous and offered a third breakfast vouchure and put us in a Riverview, upper floor room before I'd even asked. The room was small as some reviewers noted but adequate for a short stay when being out of the room is the point of the visit.
However, if your waistline is greater than 40 inches, you probably will have trouble getting around the bathroom door. A second sink outside the bathroom was a nice benefit. The room was clean with the exception of the sliding glass balcony doors which had lots of fingerprints. The top floor restaurant is average but the sunset view was worth it. However the windows were fingerprinted there too. The Housekeeping supervisor needs to inspect the windows as well as the rooms.
My son enjoyed the 10 mile running biking trail which is basically across the road, although the staff was vague about where to find it. This trail is for serious runners/bikers though. Pedestrians and children may take their lives in their hands as theses athletes are FAST.
This hotel was wonderful!from dcbound
The hotel was very clean and well maintained. The rooms were not shabby at all as I have read in previous posts but typical of a hotel in this class. My husband commented that this was the nicest Holiday Inn he had ever seen. If you are looking for a fancy hotel, this is not it but if you would like a clean hotel with all the amenities and a 3 star rating with a friendly staff, then this is a good choice.
We joined the Priority Club before booking our reservation thanks to the comments on this board. This did not cost a dime but entitled one of us to a free breakfast buffet each day in the rooftop restaurant with wonderful views of the city. Since one of our daughters is 12 years old and eats free at the Holiday Inn, we expected to pay for two breakfasts each morning and get two free but when we went to pay the first day, they said that everyone in our party was free! The buffet was very nice. They served scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, french toast, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and tea. The Priority Club breakfast is served Monday thru Friday. On the weekend, we purchased the breakfast special for $3.95 at the downstairs restaurant, which is a cafeteria style and more casual and also very good.
We did eat one dinner in the rooftop restaurant one night. We had just arrived at 10PM and were very hungry. We all ordered steaks and baked potatoes. The steaks were very underdone and the potatoes overdone, like they had been reheated all day. We sent the food back. The waiter was very nice but spoke little English. We then received our dinners and they were cooked perfectly. Our dinner total was $90 for four adult meals including the 20% coupon for one dinner that we received for being in the Priority Club. After eating at several restaurants in DC and Rosslyn, this was not a great value for the money. The best restaurant in the area in our opinion is Tom Sarris' The Orleans House. It is on Wilson Blvd and right near the metro station. They have a huge salad bar and awesome prime rib and we all ordered dessert and our bill was about same $90.00.
The pool was wonderful and open from 10AM to 10PM. It ranges in depth from 3 1/2 feet to 6 feet. Some parents of younger kids felt it was kind of deep in the most shallow area but my kids are older and enjoyed it very much. The do have a lifeguard on duty but he sat talking on the phone or reading the paper much of the time and I did not see him watching the pool very much. Kids under 14 are not allowed without a parent so I guess the lifeguard figures there are people to yell over to him if someone is in trouble. I suppose he's better than nothing but my advice is to watch your kids yourself or hope a better lifeguard is on duty when you are there.
All in all it was a wonderful trip. We were very happy with the Holiday Inn Rosslyn and would definately stay there again.

good valuefrom queencitygirl
Free parking is also a plus that is not available at a lot of hotels in the area.
The kids enjoyed the pool as a nice way to relax and take a break from all the museums and monuments in D.C. The metro is very convienient and the girls thought it was great fun! The staff was helpful and the room was nice. The view of river was also a plus. All in all, it's a nice hotel. Not too fancy, but very comfortable with some good perks for families.
Great value and location!from julies46
this is very reasonable. The staff was helpful and our room was cleaned promptly and competently. The restaurant did have a very nice view, however, the food was only average but fillling and priced fairly. We will most definitely stay here when we return to DC.
Decent hotel, great locationfrom talar63
Location was very close to the metro...about 1 1/2 blocks. It was easy to use this metro & never had any problems at all. Very convient as far as distance to all the major attractions & monuments. There isn't anything really close as far as eating except McDonalds, Quiznos & Burger King, but that was okay, we have 2 teenagers, so that was more to their liking anyway. Several local pizza places delivered and there were a few other nicer places to eat up the street & on Wilson Blvd. Also a Safeway & CVS around this area.
Be sure to join the priority club....free buffet breakfast on weekdays. We did this several of the days we were there...typical breakfast buffet with both hot & cold items. They also have a discount for priority club members for dinner one night, but didn't ever do this as we were too tired to go up or had already eaten somewhere in "town". We did go up one evening for the view, but they seemed kinda irritated that we were just wanting to look out & not eat, so didn't stay long.
They do have a nice indoor pool, but we didn't use it as we were usually too tired by the time we got back to the hotel. The evening we were going to use it, it was overrun with kids having an FFA convention there that week.
They did have internet service, but you had to ask to use it, as it is just a small room behind the check-in desk. The USA Today was also delivered every weekday morning. Ice machine on our floor was broken, but just went to a different floor to get ice.
All in all, this was a decent, clean & inexpensive place to stay. If I was going to be in the area again, I would definitely stay here.
Close enough to DC w/out high costfrom 1hyplady
Rooms are ample size, WIFI is "Free" and quick to access. Hotel has pgraded linens/draperies but maintained dated pictures on walls. Had room overlooking Georgetown w/balcony. Nice to be able to have fresh air.
Held a seminar here. Meeting room staff very accommodating. Continental Breakfast scrimpy and banquet equipment needs upgrading. Coffee maker had odd odor, pastries very small. AC in meeting room ran either too warm or cold.
Cafe good value w/plenty or variety.
On hotwire.com got better rate at Hyatt Crystal City for one night before departure from Regan. Hyatt not maintained as well. Faucet in bathroom loose, carpets on guest room foor hallways had confetti, kleenex etc. Still there when departed next AM. All in all Holiday Inn better deal.
Will definitely stay againfrom A TripAdvisor Member
When I first started looking for hotels in the DC area, I was upset to see how much some hotels charged for parking. I didn't want to pay five days worth of parking and also pay for parking in the city. Instead, I found this Holiday Inn which has free parking and then I took the Metro everywhere.
The Metro station is just a few steps away, very practical, efficient, safe, and it will take you anywhere you want to go. Unless your heart it set upon staying right in the middle of the Washington DC action, don't stay there. It is too costly (hotel taxes and parking costs are higher) and congested. Try Virginia (and the Metro) instead.
Also, if you are a priority club rewards member (it's free), you get free breakfast on the top floor restaurant. True, the free breakfast is technically only for the member. The first morning, I wanted to follow the rules and not take from the buffet while the actual priority club member in our room ate his free breakfast but the restaurant staff refused to let me do this. They insisted that I partake in the breakfast buffet as well even though I technically wasn't entitled to it. I really appreciated this. They went out of their way to make sure we were well fed and ready to start the day. Bonus, the restaurant was near deserted so we always had a relaxing breakfast with fantastic views of the river, National Cathedral and the poor rush-hour souls stuck in traffic far below.
Average hotel, good locationfrom gbthomas66
On the plus side: great location (3 minute walk from the nearest metro station), great breakfast (hot and cold items), very nice restaurant (17th floor looking north and east over the Potomac River), decent price, okay staff, clean room.
On the minus side: nothing fancy about the rooms, noisy elevators (so be sure to ask for a room away from the elevators).
I was in a room on the 3rd floor overlooking a roof below me. Fortunately, I wasn't there much. I would guess the higher floors would have nicer views. I'll know to ask next time.
If you are not into fancy hotels and spacious suites, then by all means I would recommend this hotel.
Great Location / Rude Stafffrom A TripAdvisor Member
Now for the bad: Television sound was horrible (like a bad cable hook-up) and nothing was done to fix it despite our reports to the front desk. However, given the awful attitudes of the employees we dealt with, I wasn't surprised. Desk employees were arrogant and rude. Everything was a "chore", and we were never met with a smile. Also had to pay for breakfast...thought they would at least have doughnuts and milk for $180 per night!!
Going back to D.C. in June....will try to find another place to stay.
Top Local Tips for Arlington
By-pass Rosslyn altogether, go to CourtHouse metro stop CourtHouse is the next stop -- and includes much better dining options. Also there's a movie theatre there. Walk down the hill towards Rosslyn for Marriott Courtyard and other large Marriott.
M Street - Georgetown Lots of small restaurant and pubs. Definitely worth a visit!
Rosslyn Metro Station There is a great deli located on the first floor....lots of great wines and cheeses as well as delicious fresh made sandwiches.
