Loved the Sheraton Suites

We were in DC for a wedding, and the Sheraton Suites was the hotel where a block of rooms were reserved for wedding guests. The location in Old Town was very convenient, well within walking distance to the heart of Old Town and the shopping and dining options there. The hotel was nicely appointed, and the room/suite was very comfortable. Loved the comfy bed! Would highly recommend this hotel to visitors in the area.

Great for Business Travelers

I've stayed at this hotel 5 times in the last few months, for business trips. It is designed for business travel, and all of your basic needs are well met. (You get the feeling every feature in the room was the result of careful market surveys.) Several times I've stayed on the club level, which gets you a few extras like free bottled water (a nice perk). The cold breakfast in the club room includes a good selection of fruit, pastries, cereals, bagels, etc.

The staff is generally pretty accomodating. Ibrahim will help you with the shuttle bus, and is very courteous. The room service menu is not very extensive, but the items are reasonably priced for a hotel in this class.
A few tips: if you want a larger room, get a double. The king rooms are smaller. If you want to be in the middle of the tourist area on King Street, the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza is a better location, but is not a "suite" hotel.

A few caveats: The tv station selection is pretty dismal: only about 15 channels, and 5 or 6 are news channels. They do have HBO, though. And twice I scheduled a wake-up call and never received it. Set your own alarm.

All in all, this is a good, solid property. It's not a glamorous hotel, but it is pleasant and comfortable.

A Great Place if on Business

I recently stayed at this hotel when I was traveling on business. We had a rental car so we didn't have to deal with the airport shuttle but it did seem convenient for travelers going through the Reagan Airport. Parking was simple, you just had to use your room key to enter and exit the lot. We felt our rental car was very safe. Checking in was easy and pleasant. The suites are on the small side but this isn't an issue unless you have more than two people staying in a room and want to hang out in the room during the day. The bathroom was very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable and soft. My room didn't share a wall with any other rooms so it was very quiet...no street noise either. Room service was very prompt and they make the best eggs over-easy I've had in years. Each room comes with two tvs, a microwave, and a fridge so feel free to bring your leftovers from dinner back with you! It's 7 blocks to the Metro stop at Braddock but it's through a low-income housing area so you need to pay attention to your surroundings. I never felt unsafe though but I also was accompanied by my male co-worker. You can also walk to King Street where you can find a lot of upscale restaurants. Be prepared for $20 entrees.

Nice place to stay

I took my two children to Washington DC to see the sites for a couple of days. We thought it was great. The shuttle from the airport was not timely nor a pleasant experience, but the people at the hotel were extremely nice and hospitable. The pool and hot tub were great. The King suite was very nice and clean.

It was a nice walk to King Street, but do not plan to walk to the nearest metro, Broddock Street-not a good neighborhood. After our first day, we came back on the King Street Metro and took the free bus that goes up and down King Street to the street closest to our hotel (after eating on King Street). This worked out well! We did find a grocery store a few blocks away.

Great stay at Sheraton Suites

My family of four stayed for four nights at the Sheraton Suites in Old Town Alexandria. We flew into Reagan International and took their complimentary shuttle - it runs promptly every thirty minutes during peak hours and on the hour up until 11:00 p.m. Because we didn't rent a car, we used the shuttle to go to the airport (about a 12 minute ride) to catch the Metro to take into D.C. (another 15-20 minutes, once you master the Metro transfer stations). The hotel was in a safe area - there is a small neighborhood grocery one block away and some nice restaurants close by within walking distance - the staff was friendly and the suite was very comfortable for the four of us - two double beds and a fold-out sofa in the living area. There is a nice indoor pool and jacuzzi.

Great place and a great location!

We stayed at the Sheraton Suites June 25 - 28. After reading the reviews I was a little concerned, but there was no reason for concern. We flew into Reagon airport and the hotel is only a couple of miles away. The shuttle from the hotel runs every 30 minutes during peak times and every hour during non-peak. Depending on timing you could wait just a couple of minutes or wait 30 minutes. You can catch a taxi which isn't very expensive since you aren't traveling very far. Also, the shuttle will take you into Old Town Alexandria.

The hotel is about 8 blocks from Old Town and it will take you 10 - 15 minutes to walk to King Street. The area is beautiful and I was never worried about our safety. There are lots of people walking, riunning and biking almost all hours. In Old Town you will find lots of restaurants and shops. We didn't take the time to tour the city, since we spent most of our time in DC but there is lots of things to see in Alexandria too.

The rooms aren't huge, but we found ours to be more than adequate. The bedroom is mostly the bed (king), but you have a sitting room with a chair, sofa and desk. There is a microwave, small refrigerator and sink area. The bed was very comfortable. There is a grocery store 2 blocks away (either direction) for any supplies you need. The pool is located on the 2nd floor and is covered and there is a jacuzzi. The hours are strange since it doesn't open until 4:00 p.m. The fitness center is also on the 2nd floor is small, but everything you need is there. If you are a runner like me then you will have a blast, because the neighborhoods are beautiful and there are lots of running trails. However, it gets hot and humid so get up early for your run or wait until early evening.

We didn't rent a car (I would recommend not renting one unless you plan lots of side trips) and used the shuttle to the airport to catch the Metro for trips to DC. The Metro works great and will get you close to most of the major sites in DC. Take the Blue or Yellow line to get you close to your destination. The only drawback was the wait for the hotel shuttle to pick us up at the airport.

We enjoyed our stay and will visit the DC area again. When we do we will be staying at the Sheraton Suites!

OK, not great

June 9-12 2005 stay. Rooms are acceptable though small for suites, housekeeping was not great. This hotel is quite a way from Old Town and any Metro stop. Nearest Metro is Braddock St., about a nine block walk through some very marginal territory. The shuttle will take you to the Metro at Reagan National but that is not a convenient option. The area surrounding the hotel is is almost scary and I was hesitant to walk it even in the day.
One big note, book through the hotel website, the offers are better than the Starwood SPG site. I found a lower rate at the hotel website after booking at the SPG site but Starwood would not honor it as "we don't compete against ourselves". I didn't fully understand nor did I accept that answer. There are better places to stay in the Old Town area.

Great Hotel

Spent Fri and Sat May 20 and 21st at the Sheraton and found it to be an excellent hotel. Our room was large and very clean. We found it to be very quiet. Only complaint may be the distance from this hotel to the major attractions of Old Town. However the hotel does provide a shuttle, on call, to take you to the heart of town and back. Great experience, would not hesitate to stay here again.

Wonderful Hotel!

The Sheraton Suites in Old Town was great! My mom and I stayed here for one night over Memorial Day weekend. The hotel was very quiet. The staff was very friendly upon our check-in. We had booked through Priceline and got a wonderful rate ($55). I had requested a non-smoking room with 2 beds and was informed that they are somewhat limited on double rooms, so they only had a smoking room available. The staff was very pleasant in allowing us to preview the room to make sure the smoking room was acceptable. It was fine....had no trace of any smell.

The beds and pillows were great. Very comfortable. The room is very pleasantly decorated in blues and stripes.

We did not get a chance to experience the pool or the restaurant, so I cannot comment on either.

The garage parking is still $16 per night, however there is plenty of street parking overnight at no cost.

All in all, we had a great stay and would recommend the Sheraton to anyone.

Wasn't expecting much,,, but had an excellent stay!

The hotel and rooms are very clean. The staff is very accomodating.

Top Local Tips for Alexandria

Parking garage... Be careful parking in the garage - they charge you a lot for daily parking. They have very, very small parking spaces so try not to have a very large SUV!!

Take the Walking Tour Take the walking tour of historical and interesting locations in the City. Also, Mount Vernon is close by -- history buffs will enjoy this (especially the wonderful new museum).

Metro The "conductors" at the Metro Stations were unbelievably friendly and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask for help in purchasing round trip tickets. They helped me w credit card purchases for tickets to and from DC and which "line" to take. People in the streets were also very helpful. Any time anyone saw us w a map out they come over and offer assitance. Be prepared to wait If the President or a visiting diplomat decides to tour a Historical Site. Security will just pull up to an intersection unannounced and close down blocks and blocks of city streets not to mention the Historical Site. DC is great and we hope to return.
