Historical Traveller Reviews of Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town Hotel
Excellent stay
from sunflower12Residence Inn - reliable and great location
from dottingthemapMy family and I stayed in this hotel when we were going to visit Washington D.C. and all of its sites. The hotel is in a quaint location of Old Alexandria, and is only a few streets away from a long row of restaurants, boutique shopping, a grocery store (even a Whole Foods!), and a few short blocks to the Metro. The proximity to the Metro makes it the perfect location. We needn't take our car into D.C.
Pricing
Pricing, of course, is always on the higher end with Residence Inn, but I feel you get what you pay for. Parking fees aren't included.
Rooms
Smaller than other Residence Inns, so having a third person on the pull-out sleeper sofa would be a little too tight. The kitchens always come with all utensils, plates, pots and pans and a large refrigerator.
Breakfast
The free Continental Breakfast doesn't offer as much as other Residence Inns, but it does its job. Four hot dishes, waffles, cereals, toast, etc.
Awesome value, extremely pleased!
from caroline19We hardly spent any money on our trip as the breakfast provided was filling and Monday through Thursday in the evening they provided a light dinner but we found it filling and satisfying - not to mention that most DC attractions are free to the public. The breakfast was not your typical continental breakfast. Most days we were there they had yogurt, cereal, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, toast, bagels, muffins, oatmeal, fruit, donuts and a large variety of soft drinks, juices, tea and coffee. One of the dinners we had was lasagne with garlic bread and salad, and you can get up to 2 glasses of wine or bottles of beer per night. What service!
We were always greeted by the entire staff every morning with "Good morning." The entire staff was extremely friendly. Even in the room we received a bag of popcorn and bags of coffee to brew at your leisure.
The location is just 2 short walking blocks to the King Metro station. The neighbor is very safe to walk late at night as well. The location is not in the center of the Old Town, however, but I think it is about 10 blocks, so still walking distance. There are also buses you can take to get to it.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with this hotel and would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area.
Pretty nice
from LGFrostingThere is a Whole Foods Market grocery store a block and a half from the hotel, which is convenient. The hotel staff will also go grocery shopping for you and just charge you for the cost of the items, which I thought was pretty cool. The hotel has a laundry room, too.
One negative is that the pool is really, really small and there's no hot tub. Also, some of the satellite channels didn't come in on my TV.
Fantastic
from PhilGabAverage
from MiramarI had a studio suite which consisted of one large room with a kitchen in one corner, sleeping area in the other corner and living area in between. It was a good sized room and the room was clean. However, the bed sheet had a stain on it and it made me question whether it was washed. I simply threw a towel over it-- so to be fair, I can't judge how they would have handled the problem, as I did not give them the opportunity to rectify it. My dealings with the front desk were pleasant enough though, so I see no reason to believe that they would not have sent someone to change the sheet had I insisted.
The hotel also has a small fitness room and a swimming pool.
Complimentary breakfast is included in the morning which appeared to consist of mini muffins, yogurt, eggs etc.
There is also a restaurant in the building next door for dinner-- La Porta's I belive it is called. However, being relatively close to King Street, it is easy to just walk up there and eat.
I found the hotel to be adequate and am neutral as to whether I would stay again--if the price was right I likely would.
Great Place
from rb47Room – good size room with a small kitchen table, desk, sleeper couch, chair, coffee table and end table. It has a vanity and sink outside of the bathroom. Bed was a standard double with a mattress that sagged a bit, however the hotel was in the process of replacing all the mattresses and we left the day before ours was due to be replaced. Plenty of pillows, nice comforter.
Room cleaning – very good, no complaints.
Kitchen – dishwasher, refrigerator with icemaker, stove, microwave, silverware, pots & pans clean and in good condition.
Pool – small, and appeared a bit cloudy.
Staff – friendly and helpful.
Additional services – great buffet breakfast, and a evening brunch with complimentary drinks.
Location – approximately one block from the Metro. One block from King Street where there are many antique shops and restaurants, however the majority of restaurants are located closer to the Potomac. The hotel has a shuttle bus that will take you to almost anyplace in the area and pick you up if you call the hotel. The King Street Metro stop is two stops from the Reagan Airport.
Additional Information
* There is an Embassy Suites and Hilton directly across from the Metro.
* You could easily take the Metro to Reagan Airport. While we took a cab to the hotel we took the hotels shuttle bus to the Metro on our return.
* Washington DC Mall is about 30 min on the Metro.
Bottom line, friendly, clean, and nice, I would stay at this Marriott again and recommend it to family and friends.
Wonderful stay, location, staff and more
from menemsha23Not Overly Impressed
from AshesToProveItOur bed sagged and the mattress was not very comfortable. When we went down for the included breakfast in the morning, it was quite crowded, and the first morning of our two night stay there was no table to sit at. Breakfast was fairly extensive with a decent selection of breakfast items, but the coffee was fair to bad.
Location in Alexandria is walking distance from the shops and restaurants on King Street, and not very far from Old Town.
What a great spot!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe location is superb! It is close to metro and king street and the new Whole Foods Market is a block away.
I do wish they had some rooms with king-beds, but other than that, everything is perfect.
Breakfast is terrific and supper is okay and this makes food costs a lot less. Fresh fruit and coffee available all day. Newspapers always available.
Hard to beat this bargain!
Top Local Tips for Alexandria
Take advantage of the D.C. Metro! Stay in Old Alexandria and take the Metro in to soak up the sites of D.C.
Great Restaurant Tip A great restaurant to try is Vermillion on King Street. I came upon it accidentally, but then several different friends who live locally, told me how much they loved Vermillion as well.
Free Bus from King Street Metro to Old Town Waterfront There is a free bus that runs Friday evening through Sundays that transports folks from the King St. Metro to the Historic district. There is no need for driving in Old Town. In fact, it hampers getting around. Unless you are infirm, skip the car and walk the short blocks to the waterfront (approx 2/3 mile). Shopping and Dining choices are all over the map. I prefer to walk King Street and check out the menus to decide what turns my fancy. Los Tapas is fun and they have nightly spanish dancing on weekends.
