Top Local Tips for Alexandria

Getting from Homewood to DC Metro The first time we stayed here, we had trouble figuring out where we could park our car all day & catch the Metro into DC (the central Alexandria Metro stations have little or no parking). Now we make the short drive to the Pentagon City shopping center, park there, and hop on the Metro. You have to pay for parking, but I think that is unavoidable -- but this saves a bunch of time.

Metro vs. Taking a Tour We found the Metro into D.C. easy to use and overall a pleasant experience. We had to drive to a station and pay to park but it was much cheaper than taking a tour. We did do a moonlight tour of the monuments which was quite nice but they did not always give us enough time at each monument.

visit with baby grandson and his parents we enjoyed the Carlyle Cafe - terrific food 5 mins away in a cute area. Ask the hotel staff.
