A Special Place

from boboloCT
Visited in March 2002 and October 2003.

This is a special place to my wife and I. It is where I proposed, so my review may be biased.

Been there twice, stayed in the Mansfield House both times. The rooms there are beautiful. A king size four-poster bed, jacuzzi and gas fireplace. Rooms are unbelievably quiet, you feel as if you are alone on the property. Room is enormous with high ceilings. There were a couple of comfy chairs to sit in and a desk area. Mini-fridge and stereo to round out the amenities. A very clean, well maintained and well designed and built rooms. We have found the staff has always been very friendly.

Whip Bar and Grill is located on the premises. Ate there each of our visits and thoroughly enjoyed the meals. Good selection of local beers, well prepared meals and good service. Breakfast buffet was also very good with plenty of selection from fresh fruit, yogurts, eggs, pancakes etc...

Other restaurants we have visited in the Stowe area include The Shed, which has decent American fare with their own excellent beers and McCarthy's, which you have to visit for at least one of your breakfasts.

The Pinnacle Suite is the best!

We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn for 4 nights in December! We traveled to Stowe with another couple and when we both checked into our rooms, we got a great room in one of the outer buildings but our friends room was located in the main building and was the size of the broom closet! When we asked the front desk if they could be moved, they said they only had one of their townhouse suites available. While it was considerably more expensive than the individual rooms, we decided to take a look anyway. We fell in love with it and booked it immediately! It had 2 bedrooms (1 queen & 2 twins), 2 fireplaces, a full kitchen, dining room, washer/dryer, etc! We justified the additional cost by buying food to make our own lunches, snacks, happy hour booze, etc! We had our own parking space which was nice too! The location of the inn is good - lots of shopping a several restaurants nearby. All of the nightlife (bars open after 11 PM) were a drive away but still not far up the mountain road. We also ate at the Whip - great if you would like a taste of local cuisine (lots of dishes with apples and maple syrup). Gracie's restaurant is right across the street and has superb burgers! Great for a casual dinner after a long day on the slopes! Bottomline, we would definitely stay at the Green Mountain again - just make sure when you make your reservations that you specify a room in the outer buildings!

Loved it

We went to Stowe for Thanksgiving 2004 and stayed at the Green Mountain Inn for three nights and ate our Thanksgiving dinner there as well. We stayed in a standard room in the main building and it was charming, cozy, and affordable. We had a canopy bed and the room was furnished tastefully with antiques and country accessories. The room was very small, which we thought was cozy, but if you want more room, get a room upgrade.

The food at breakfast, Thanksgiving, and at The Whip was superb! The breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious. We're still talking about it. Thanksgiving dinner was served in the elegant dining room and was fabulous! Lunch at the Whip was simple and perfect.

Naturally, the inn's location in the middle of Stowe Village was great and convenient. The shops adjacent to the main building are among the best in town. We can't wait to go back.

Fabulous Inn!

My family keeps going back to this hotel because it is simply the best place to stay in Stowe. It has the charm and convenience you want when you go on vacation. And The Whip! I highly recommend this restaurant. Wonderful food, lovely waitstaff, and all you have to do is walk a few steps back to your room. Book early in-season. Rooms go fast and for good reason!

OK, but not great...

We stayed there for a week and it was a lot less than what we have expected! We did not like the room, it was too small and noisy. We could hear noises from all over (swimming pool, next door, upstairs, people walking outside!). We asked for an upgrade but the inn was booked.

The breakfast buffet was not that great either. The only good thing about the hotel was its housekeeping: very clean rooms and its location.

Romantic Rooms, Excellent Inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn as part of our honeymoon in early October, 2004. We had a 2-room suite in the Mansfield House, which had a king canopy bed, fireplace, huge jacuzzi, two 32 or 36 inch satellite TV's (with DVD player), computer with internet access, and excellent decor inside and out. We highly recommend this inn, and plan on staying at it the next time we go to Stowe. The dinners at the Whip restaurant are excellent as well. They also serve free breakfast in the morning, however, the orange juice comes in a shot-sized glass, so order like 5 of them at once, since they won't put the OJ in a bigger glass. They serve free cookies and lemonade every day at 2 pm in the main inn (in the breakfast area). The Inn is perfectly located in the heart of Stowe, and if you stay at the Mansfield house, it is well away from the main road, so you will not hear any traffic. Simply an excellent place to stay.

Loved this place!

My husband and I spent two nights at this wonderful inn. We stayed in the Mansfield House and it was so beautiful. The king size canopy bed, jacuzzi, and fireplace made this a very special getaway. An added bonus in our room was a computer. We enjoyed dinner at Whips, which I thought was quite good. The homemade pastries at breakfast were a highlight. The staff was always polite and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay spectacular. I can't wait for our next visit! I think this is one of the nicest most relaxing inns I have stayed at.

Romantic, cosy hotel in historic Stowe

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have stayed here for three years in a row - skiing at Stowe.

The outdoor steamy swimming pool in the snow is magic - especially when lit at night.

All rooms have been roomy, cosy and really comfortable. The most recent stay in February 2004 we stayed in a Fireplace room with Jacuzzi.

Order the chocolate dipped strawberries and bubbly awaiting you on arrival - wonderful.
The food is excellent - breakfasts are huge - location in the village is superb.

Wish we could go every year.

Great family vacation

My husband, two year old and I just returned from a 3 day stay at the inn. We stayed in the Mansfield house and thoroughly enjoyed the two room suite. The room was well appointed and definitely worth the upgrade. The entire staff was helpful, friendly and thoughtful. We plan to return and definitely recommend it to others.

Terrific hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in July 2004 while we biked in the Stowe area. The deluxe rooms in the Mill House are worth the extra price.

Stowe Recreational Path Take the time to walk along the Stowe Recreational Path -- access the path from just behind the Community Church on Main Street. It's a lovely walk with a babbling brook, benches, public art, and beautiful scenery!

Crafts There are some amazing local shops in Stowe. Just walk down the streets and stroll in and out. The shop owners are used to tourists and are very frendly.
