Great ambiance, rooms need work.

My family and I went there during the summer and had a good time. The live music, the club on site and the tiki bar by one of the pools was the best. Lots and lots of people. A walk away from the beach. Rooms are outdated but with a partial ocean view.
 

Top Local Tips for South Padre Island

Good Food Can Be Found! Try Dirty Al's seafood restaurant they have the best fried shrimp ever, there really is a difference! We also had great mexican food at Bigo's, having grown up in SanAntonio I don't say this without lots of mexican food experience. Bigo's was reminescent of interior Mexico cooking, great stuff. Also check out Naturally's health food, the sandwiches, they are fantastic if you want real good organic foods. They are super friendly and quite helpful. Blackbeards is another seafood place to check-out it can get quite packed but it is a great family restaurant with fair pricing and descent food.

Get cab numbers right away! Eat at the Sea Ranch Restaurant! There are several cab companies on the island, all with really cheap prices. Get the cab phone numbers right away even if you have your own car. This way you never have to drive drunk, and the local cabbies know all the cool bars, clubs, restaurants and attractions. They helped us alot. Also, If you are interested in some fine dining, you have to hit up the Sea Ranch Restaurant. We asked one of the cabbies to recommend a nice place we could dress up at and that's what he told us. You can definitely go casual too, but the drinks, wine and food were amazing! I highly recommend it.
