Loved the Riverwalk!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just stayed at the Drury Inn Riverwalk and celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary! (August 21, 2004) We stayed 3 nights. We thought the hotel was great and would definitely stay there again. We had a room with a king size bed, a refrig, micro, coffee pot, and balcony. Every day our room included two cans of pop and microwave popcorn. The staff was extremely helpful, and they were all very friendly - as has been stated before. We loved the breakfast - especially the Belgian waffles which you make yourself. We also liked the fact that the hotel had an entrance directly on the Riverwalk, yet there was a lot of security. Definitely an A+ in our opinion.

Not worth it...will pick somewhere else next time.

My husband and I recently stayed here for a few days for my high school reunion. One of the events was on the Riverwalk, so we wanted to be close for that. I'd thought that a suite with a private balcony overlooking the Riverwalk would be a great bonus.
I booked on Expedia and got the room for around $200. I wish now I'd looked harder!

The lobby and private areas were pleasant enough, and my husband enjoyed our complimentary high speed internet, but the room was a real disappointment, lookswise. I guess I figured that since it was on the Riverwalk, the quality would be a little nicer. It looked like a Motel 6 quality room- brown plaid sofa and cheap looking furniture.

I guess I'm spoiled, but for $200 a night I was expecting more. Where I had pictured French doors and large windows leading to the balcony (a la the Mansion del Rio), there was a heavy metal door. The room was very dark and the arrangement was strange. I guess it was a feng shui thing; it just made me uncomfortable.

The other reviewer who complained about the parking was correct. We had no trouble our first day and night there. The next night, we had an event in far northwest San Antonio and did not get in until after 11. Every spot in the parking garage was full. We were forced to park our car in the area outside the registration desk that night. Fortunately, the car was not broken into. I felt bad for anyone arriving any later than we did. I'm not sure what they might have had to do for parking.

We did not try the breakfast buffet. The coffeehouse "Sip" a few doors down makes an excellent latte and decent panini sandwiches. Plus some yummy sweets.

The location for this hotel is great, but when I saw the notation on the back of the door that the regular rate for our room was $339 a night, I about had a heart attack. I would rather have spent a little more for a luxury spot on the Riverwalk, or a little less away from the Riverwalk.

This spot may be great for families, but if you're a couple looking for an affordable yet romantic getaway, I'd look elsewhere.

Great time at the Drury Inn Riverwalk

from MelBay
My husband and 2 daughters and I enjoyed the Drury Inn on the Riverwalk!! The hotel is in a great location. It is on the Riverwalk, but on the quieter side. We walked to everything in town. Our daughters, 15 & 11, loved the hotel and especially the roof top pool. The breakfast was very good. Everyone enjoyed making their own waffles. It does get a little crowded about 8:30. All the food is top quality. The afternoon drinks and snacks were terrific!! Our girls liked to have a snack before going to the Riverwalk and my husband and I enjoyed a relaxing drink. Everyone in the hotel was nice and if we needed anything in the room, they were there in a heartbeat. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

At the quiet end of the Riverwalk

My wife and I stayed at the Drury Inn in San Antonio in Oct., 2003. We especially liked the roof top swimming pool and hot tub at sunset. It was nice to look out over the city as the sun was setting. We had great accomodations. We origionally were given a room not on the Riverwalk but at our request we were switched to a room overlooking the river. We liked the happy hour in the lobby and enjoyed the social time there with other guests. It has a beautiful view of the river. The breakfast was nice and we enjoyed the hot waffles that you make right on the spot so that they are piping hot. All in all, it was a really nice room and stay. The staff was most friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again. We love the restaurant, too!

We stayed at the Drury Inn & Suites Riverwalk for four nights (Mon-Thur) in June, 2004. We were thrilled with our king suite with balcony (#725). It was much nicer and more spacious than we expected it to be for the price. The furnishings were very nice and fairly new, the bed was quite comfortable and everything was kept spotlessly clean during our stay.

We found the kitchenette to be a great feature, especially the under-counter fridge - perfect for keeping some drinks to enjoy on the balcony after long days of sight-seeing. We had two 25-inch TVs (living room & bedroom)with cable (around 100 channels incl. HBO).

On the seventh floor there is a small room with a couple of self-service washers and dryers (only $1 to run each) and a machine which vends laundry soap. Very convenient for those of us who like to travel light when flying. An iron and full-sized ironing board were in the bedroom closet.

As someone else mentioned, we appreciated the security precautions throughout the hotel. The location is perfect, too. No need to rent a car. All of the sights and shopping are within 3 or 4 blocks in either direction from the hotel, and from the hotel's lower level you step right out onto the Riverwalk.

The hotel staff impressed the heck out of us. They were all very kind, friendly and conscientious. Several times we happened to ride elevators with staff members or see them in the hallways. They unfailingly asked how we were enjoying our stay, if there was anything we needed, if everything was ok with our room, etc.

When I return to San Antonio I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

Great Suites, Perfect Location!!!

from BJMama
We loved the Drury Inn in San Antonio! I took my son, daughter-in-law and seven year old grandson in mid-May 2004. Our suite was on the 7th floor. Our two room suite had micro, refrig. solid surface counter tops and very clean. We especially liked the balcony with view of street and river. This was a "treat for my children" and we were very well pleased. I made coffee in the morning and closed the bedroom door, so they could sleep and I could relax and watch the tv. During our stay the breakfast included waffles, french toast, eggs, cereal, fruit. In other words, a complete meal. Employees were helpful and friendly. We did not experience any noise problems from other rooms and the hotel had lots of families with children. I also appreciated the security factor. Just outside the door is the Riverwalk. We will definitely stay at Drury poperties again!!! Enjoy San Antonio. Seaworld is great. Also enjoyed Market Square and the children's museum.

Great Hotel

This property is fantastic. Had requested a suite, but due to delayed housekeeping upon our early arrival, we were given two adjoining rooms, which turned out to be much better. High ceilings made the rooms seem enormous and really quiet. The staff was so accomodating. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again. For the price, it can't be beat!

Very Nice hotel, very nice price, very nice employees

My husband and I had our first experience with Drury Inn in Houston, TX on our wedding night and have have been hooked every since (June 12, 2000). This is the first time we stayed at a Drury Inn in San Antonio (June4-6, 2004). After searching prices and reviews on the internet from Marriott to La Quinta, we agreed to try Drury Inn. We loved it! They checked us in with no problem, we went up to our River veiw room (balcony) and the room was very clean. We didn't have a remote for the T.V., but when we called room service brought one up in a timely manner. The next day Reyna cleaned our room (very Well) and notice that we took the two pillows off one bed and had them on the bed we slept in and when she made the bed she left the four pillows on that one bed so we wouldn't have to pull them again. I thought that was a nicely noticed small gesture (thanks Reyna). The beds were nice and comfy. The breakfast was ok, I mean it is FREE. If you want excellent, go buy it! The parking garage is quite narrow, but everything can't be perfect. The security was really impressive, my husband and I loved the fact the you needed your card to enter the hotel from the front lobby door, the garage, and through TLC steak house. Great idea Drury! I think Drury is the most reasonably priced hotel on the river walk. You get what you pay for and this hotel is definitely worth it's price! Yes,Yes,Yes, we will be back again! Thank you to the staff, you guys are great! Obviously great Managers, keep up the good work.

Two Major Problems

from DSchmidtNekoosa_Wi
Our trip was for pleasure and after reviewing the comments on tripadvisor we choose the Drury Inn.
First of all let me say the staff was excellent, very friendly and knowlegeable. When we arrived they gave us a non-smoking room on the 7th floor, when we opened the door there was a distinct odor of smoke. We called the front desk and they immediately gave us another non-smoking room on the 6th floor. This room also had a odor of cigarette smoke but we contibuted it to a poor ventilation system and decided it wouldn't be any better regardless of which non-smoking room we had. The other problem we had was that the walls in this hotel are paper thin and one can hear everything that's said in the next room. Not a muffle like sound but just like they are in same room as you. We had a young child in the room next to us who cried until 2AM the next morning, we finally resorted to leaving the TV on to drown out the noise. The location is excellent and the hotel is beautifully restored but these two problems will keep us from recommending this hotel to others.

Electrical Problems

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed 2 nights in May. The room, location, and breakfast were very nice, but two nights in a row, alarms came on with announcements to use the fire escape---not the elevators---to evacuate. They turned out to be false alarms, but were upsetting and not conducive to getting a good night's sleep.
