Timing is Everything

from Sceneitall
Nice hotel, but a word of caution for early-to-bed guests. This hotel has a great downtown location and with it come all the sounds of a downtown, with Saturday night being rather intense. If you love the nightlife, it's probably perfect. Rooms were comfortable with classy decor and breakfasts were very good. Our shower door had problems which I reported with no results, it was Sunday however and perhaps hard to get someone in to fix it.
Nice place, but next time I'll look for a quiet place at the end of the Riverwalk.

Mixed feelings.....

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Riverwalk Vista for our first anniversary. Our expectations were pretty high because we had read such great reviews. Well, we didn't have an information booklet in our room that had information we apparently needed and when we told the manager about, we still didn't receive one. There was a tin of cookies by the bed, but when I went to eat some, I realized they were half eaten. The sodas and juices that were in the mini-fridge were $2 a piece, but we didn't know that until checkout. (Info was probably in missing booklet) Now, all that being said, it was a very pretty place. The bedding was nice and we loved the large shower. The breakfast was really good. And the entire hotel smelled of warm cinnamon. Plus, the staff was very friendly. So all things considered, we would go back to the Riverwalk Vista. Just expected a little bit more for a very special weekend.

The greatest place to stay in SA!!!

I stayed at the Riverwalk Vista for 5 nights during an international conference. The room was fantastic. The bed was very confortable. The view of downtown San Antonio through the large windows were amazing. I stone shower was quite an experience for one or two. The breakfast and mid afternoon snack ws just enough. The fact that they provided access to a real gym a few blocks away was great. Most places only have a rusty trend machine. I high recommend this place for all travelers, especially for couple on a romantic excursion. It's also a great place for travelers who are tired of the monotony of a chain.

Great Place

Great stay; a nice change from the ordinary. The attention to detail and the courteous staff; makes it worth the small inconveniences like parking your own car. They even remember you by name and treat you as if visting their own home. Thanks for the memories, we'll be back. As for the one of the previous writers. Like many small boutiques there is a cancellation fee when you make a decision not to stay; and if you were to have read the cancellation policy it is more than straight forward. We'll be back.

Wonderful stay

from San Antonio member
This is a fantastic small hotel. Service was very professional and prompt. Everything was organized. The rooms are truly charming. Although our room was a bit on the small size - it did not feel small secondary to the 12 foot ceilings. This place is a fantastic blend of old (historic building with many historic features), new (slate bathroom, DVD TV), and thoughtful (great beds, fresh cookies, comlimentary spring water, even a teddy bear to keep you company). I completely recommend this hotel as a great break from the big chains. As a local, I will definitely recommend this place to friends who want a night downtown or to visitors.

Very nice room, great value and location

from szetka
We stayed at the Vista for a long weekend. The location was excellent. The rooms are furnished with real furniture, leather chairs, down comforters. The rooms are HUGE with hardwood floors. Light sleepers, note, you are on a busy street, so you may hear muffled traffic noises. You even get a "therapy" fish. Nice toiletries provided, great shower, the shower stall was covered in beautiful slate. It was definitely a cut above the typical chain hotels.

We did have a small glitch at arrival. This hotel is run like a small boutique apartment. There is no parking onsite, but reasonable parking at $7 a day is nearby. We attempted to check in, but the concierge's phone kept dropping us. Once we were inside, the staff arrived promptly, and was very gracious. There was only usually one person on site, but since there were only 17 rooms, this was okay. We used the free DSL connection. Free DVD's are available to rent if you want. Diaries of previous traveler's comments were in each room, they were all positive.

The continental breakfast was great, well presented and stocked. Free bottles of water were in the minifridge. Free chocolate chip cookies for afternoon snack.

Definitely an excellent value.

Horrible Service

from thespeakerbox
After making reservations, they got our email wrong, so we never received confirmation. They never called to confirm anything. The next day we tried to cancel A MONTH BEFORE arrival and we were charged a 15 dollar cancellation fee that was never mentioned. They would not admit their error in processing the information wrong. It was a common spelling error too. This hotel may seem appealing and chic, but in a stuck up , manipulative manner. DO NOT TRUST them or fall for their facade. This is a pitfall of small hotels. They do what they please, and do not care. Trust a larger chain, even they can deliever much better service. with a better sense of trust

Summing things up,

Never want to stay anywhere else again

My husband and I stayed at the Riverwalk Vista for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been more pleased. I stumbled across the hotel on the internet and read the reviews. The hotel is beautiful and doesn't have a hotel feel to it. It is directly across the street from the Riverwalk and within walking distance of all the local attractions. I found a great rate online and the hotel honored the price, so we also got a great deal. Per the reccomendation of Annette, the innkeeper, we visited Market Square on our last day there and got some wonderful deals on jewelry and a handmade crucifix. I would definitely stay at the hotel again...I can't wait to go back.

Noisy, but nice!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is very nice itself. My husband and I wouldn't stay again, at least on a weekend! The noise coming from the traffic on Commerce Street is very loud. It would wake us up several times a night. Besides the traffic, everything is great! It's close to attractions and my husband and I really enjoyed our stay.

Great little Hotel

from KKAustin
This hotel is fantastic. It's very small, which makes it a very special place to stay. The quality is far above any of the large hotels on the Riverwalk.

The little touches, such as the teddy bear on the bed, the rubber ducky in the shower and the great breakfast make this place so enjoyable. Of course, the great bed and the huge shower are fantastic as well.

The only downside to this place is the lack of hotel property parking and the noise factor. They have white noise machines which make it bearable, but try to get a room that doesn't face Commerce street out front if you can.

I will definately stay here again when I am in San Antonio.

Top Local Tips for San Antonio

No Taxis after concert at AT&T Center We took a taxi to the Eric Clapton concert at the AT&T center. The driver assured us that there would be plenty of taxis available after the show and even pointed out where to line up for a cab. I don't know what happened, but there were no taxis available when we were ready to leave. A few were waiting for folks who had prepaid them, but the remaining 200 or so people had to wait at least an hour before the taxis started arriving. If you take a cab to a concert at the AT&T center, be sure to arrange for pickup with the driver who drops you off. According to the police who were trying to help the stranded taxi riders, there are normally hundreds of taxis waiting after the sporting events...so you should be OK then.

Don't rent a car. See title.

Good restaurant Pasano's (sp?) on the river walk was excellent! Try the sea bass.
