Historical Traveller Reviews of Omni San Antonio Hotel

I liked the Omni more than I thought I would

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was skeptical going to the Omni after I read the reviews on this website. I will have to say that I am glad I didn't cancel our reservations. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean. It has great access to the interstate. The pool area was clean and the kids had a blast.

OK for the money

from Inez5
Well, starting out we had some issues, I traveling with my husband, 12 year old daughter, 11 year old son, and 17 month old daughter. I had requested a sitting king being that is would be more spacious than a double double. They offered to bring in a rollaway and pull out the sofa sleeper so everyone would have a place to sleep. This was all on the phone, when we got there they say we have your double ready and I say we requested a king, They tell me the room is not ready and we have to wait til housekeeping can clean. After about 15 minutes we get our room, not quite as big as I was expecting so we upgraded to a Parlor King, great idea. This room as a seperate bed room( do door ) and a little living area. Two tvs are in the suite, makes it nice for the kids to watch what they would like. They put us on the 19th floor, great view. I must mention to ask for the omni zoo promo, we paid 89/night and including bfast coupons for 2 adults. The buffet was great, no pancakes or waffles though you have to pay more for this, unless you go on the weekend. I also suggests you become a select guest before you go ( it is free) you get great perks just by signing up. The pool and the hot tub were also great.

Good choice

from longtimeresident
Stayed for a weekend getaway. This is a solid 4* hotel, on the order of a city JW Marriott. The rooms are well-appointed, staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet is very good especially when included in room rate. Workout/sauna/locker area could use updating. Good location with several restaurants within walking distance. Would stay here again and I am picky!

Wonderful Hotel

from SDFifield
My husband and I stayed for a week at the Omni from 5/18 to 5/26. It was wonderful. Staff was friendly. We had breakfast coupons for every morning that we were there. Buffet was good. Restaurant staff was great. They took really good care of us. Hotel is close to the freeway and was easy to get in and out of. If we are ever in San Antonio again, we will stay at the Omni.

Could Be Much Better

Visited San Antonio for a birthday weekend getaway. Chose the Omni hotel based on past reviews. My mother was impressed instantly, however, as I consider myself a world traveller and have stayed in my fair share of hotels I felt it was a little overpriced for the room and its ammenities. Rooms were on the small side, no little extras that other hotels give as benefits, ie breakfast, morning paper (and yes I am a Select Guest member). Choose to stay downtown if you plan on visiting SA for the sites, Omni was somewhat out of the way. Did have an issue with the room and notified the Omni via e-mail contact information. Management (not based out of the SA Omni) wrote back days later indicating that an individual from the SA Omni would address my concerns. I am still waiting for that response, it has nearly been one month since our trip. Would choose to stay elsewhere for my next visit. A little on the disappointed side.

Typical Omni

from A TripAdvisor Member
OK place for a night or two. Typical Omni decor, setting, etc. I spent a weekend, and the location makes it a good place to select. Close to the Hill Country via highways, airport and downtown. The hotel is not cheap, but it is dependable. It is also showing its age, but is relatively well maintained.

Very Satisfied with The Omni

from marc1976
My fiancee and I stayed at this hotel from January 6th through January 9th and we were both very satisfied. I experienced my quickest check-in ever, about 45 seconds (no kidding). First, the hotel offers a free shuttle to and from the airport, which saved us money on cab fare. If you do not rent a car, a cab will cost about $25.00 to downtown with tip. The room was a little on the small side, but still very nice. I liked the two sinks and the bed was very comfortable. We accidentally broke a lamp in the room through our own negligence and we were concerned that we would have to pay for it. When we returned to our room later that night we had a new lamp and the Omni never charged us. The Omni was within walking distance of a few restaurants so that made things easier for us. The indoor pool was awesome. I've never swam in such a warm indoor pool before. The indoor hot tub was being repaired, but we used the one outside. What I liked most about the Omni was the fact that the pool areas and fitness center were open 20 hours a day (5 am to 1 am). The only minor complaints I had were low ceilings in the bathroom (I'm 6'5") and the distance to downtown. Other than that, the staff was very friendly and courteous. I will definitely stay here again and now I see why guests of the Oprah Winfrey show stay at Omni Hotels.

You are in for a treat! The OMNI San Antonio goes out of their way to make your stay more than you could ever dream. The hotel is beautiful; the service exceptional. The rooms are small, but well laid out. Two sinks in two different areas makes it easy for a family to quickly get ready. Always search for deals at this property. Hint: Type in OMNIZOO in the promo code for a $79 rate which includes made-to-order breakfast. UNBEATABLE! Also, be sure and enroll in the free Select Guest program for some comp. upgrades.

Terrific Hotel Especially for Business Travel

from BC97
I stayed at this Omni Hotel in June of '04. I usually dread the choice of approved hotels in my company and having to generally choose the cheapest, but the Omni turned things around. My corporate rate was $100/night. The check-in was easy especially since they never asked for my credit card and ended up charging my room to my boss' corporate card. Took a while to get that straightened out later, but otherwise the staff was very helpful.

I had a room somewhere mid-level on one of the corners of the west side of the hotel. This room was absolutely wonderful with windows on two sides and a beautiful view of the sunset (too bad this part of town isn't the prettiest with sunsets over the freeway and ugly buildings). The room had a nice king size bed. The TV was set in a nice oak armoir. The large oak table right in front of the window was perfect for working (comfy ergo business chair too). Was great to have a view while getting some work done in the evening. Lighting enhanced the ambience of the room.

The hotel has free wireless high speed internet service, but if you don't have a wireless card for your PC, you're out of luck unless you want to spend $10/day to use one of the hotel's adaptors. The manager working the front desk was nice enough to let me borrow one for a couple of hours though. Everything worked fine.

The pool area was a decent place to hang out with co-workers after a long day at the office. Nothing too special there. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool.

The experience was topped off with a turndown service in the evenings. Chocolates were left on the pillow and the radio left on tuned to a nice classical station. Nice end to long workdays.

The hotel offered complimentary newspapers and juice delivered to the room in the morning. I don't know if that was something special that I got through my corporate travel or if the hotel does it for everyone. But it was a nice start.

Overall, I truly hope that I get the opportunity to stay at the Omni next time I'm in San Antonio on business. However, if I'm visiting the area for leisure, I'd probably choose someplace else. It's certainly not because of the hotel which is absolutely terrific, but because of the part of town.

Loved the Omni!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We loved the Omni!!! We recently traveled to San Antonio after having our Orlando vacation plans changed by Hurricane Frances. We booked last minute, and were unsure about what to expect when arriving. The Omni was great. We had a king bed room with a parlor that was beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable and the pack-and-play provided for our toddler was clean and appeared new (not always the case at some hotels). The pools were great and the staff was very friendly. In fact, on our last night at the hotel, we were disappointed because the pool was closed for repairs. We were given coupons for free breakfast buffet in the restaurant ($20 value). When a staff member brought the coupons to our door, he also brought two containers of milk and several packages of cookies (it was close to bedtime). One additional bonus - parking is free. If you have a rental car, the drive downtown to the Riverwalk is easy. We were traveling with friends who stayed at a hotel on the Riverwalk and they were charged $16 a day for parking. We were very pleased with our choice and would definately stay there again.

Top Local Tips for San Antonio

the Via tourist tram If this is your first trip be sure to take the Via tram and see the downtown, Riverwalk and market route. It is a nice, cheap way to see the historic downtown area and th"mercado" with some nice shopping and great Mexican restaurants.

Rivercenter Parking Avoid parking in the Rivercenter. Line was extremely long at exit. Had to wait in line 30 minutes to exit garage and you are charged by the garage for every minute you are in it. Try to park in one of the lots that charges a flat rate for parking.

Don't Miss the Missions Most people get to the Alamo, of course, but if you get in your car and visit the other San Antonio missions including the lovely Mission San Jose, you'll be in for a treat. You can take a tour by a park ranger and they'll give you more history and background on mission life than you'll get at the Alamo. Kids love it---they get a park ranger badge and certificate, too.
