The room was very nice and quiet. Due to the rain, I was forced to spend more time in the room than planned. Couldn't have asked for a better place.

Great Property

This Homewood Suites is actually downtown on the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk. It's a convenient location for any downtown business or pleasure trips. The hotel is in a historic building and has a uniqueness not found in many "cookie cutter" hotels these days. The two reasons I would go back are the awsome view from the lobby dining room and the hospitable staff. Also, HWS has every other hotel beat with its all-suite idea and the full breakfast/evening meal.

Great Place to Stay

A friend and I went to a convention at the Gonzalez convention center and stayed at the Homewood Suites. We had a two bedroom suite with nice living area and bedrooms. Both bedrooms had private baths with TVs in both bedrooms and in the living area. The breakfast was very good and the managers receptions were nice. All of the staff were extremely helpful (especially Sonia). The trolley system works great in San Antonio, with a stop outside of the hotel so it is easy to get to the convention center. The area is quiet compared with other areas on the riverwalk, but it is a little farther from the bars and restaraunts. If we get to go back with the family, this will definitely be the place we will stay. The room rates were a little higher than if we had shared a room at the Marriott, Hilton, or Westin. However, the suite we got was well worth it and we didn't have to share the bathroom or listen to each other snore. I was a little skeptical prior to going because most of the people stayed at the Marriott, but we definitely made the right decision.

Good, but watch out for valet parking charges!

We have stayed at Homewood Suites in the past, and decided to give it a try again this year. The only thing to watch out for is the valet parking. You will be charged almost $20/day for parking, and not informed about it! The valet staff doesn't tell you, and neither does the desk staff. The price is located on your valet ticket, but in our case we didn't even use our car the whole weekend. Part of the allure of the Riverwalk is that you can walk almost everywhere, so we did not even look at the valet parking ticket until the day we checked out! We got a big suprise! Other than that, the hotel is a great place for families to stay. We were very pleased with everything, except the hidden charges.

Great family hotel at Homewood Suites

Spent our fall break in San Antonio and rate it as one of our best family vacations. Homewood Suites is right on the riverwalk, with complimentary hot breakfast and an early evening reception served in a beautiful glass walled dining area overlooking a quiet section of the Riverwalk. It is located centrally to all the attractions, and although we took advantage of the valet parking, we didn't move the car for two days! We were able to walk to all the downtown attractions in all directions from the front door of our hotel, and were literally steps down to the Riverwalk. The S.A.V.E. rate from the Visitors and Convention Bureau was only $99/night. We enjoyed having a separate bedroom at this all suite hotel, so our teenage son could watch TV long after his parents were ready to sleep!

What a great place to stay. From the moment we checked in until the time we left, we were treated like royalty. The staff really knows how to take care of it's guests. The breakfast and social we outstanding. They even serve free margaritas. I am in the bar business and I know this is a major expense. Way to go to the hotel for going above and beyond. This hotel is the only "all suite" property on the river walk. Once you stay in a suite, it is hard to go back to a regular room. I would not hesitate to stay there again and highly recommend it to all of my friends.

Thanks to good reviews from Tripadvisor, we chose to stay at Hilton's Homewood suites on the Riverwalk in San Antonio& we were not disappointed! The hotel is located directly on the Riverwalk & is only a five minute walk to all the restaurants & bars on the riverwalk. A big plus for this location is that you're close to all the action but don't have to hear all the bar noise until 4am like some of the closer hotels do! The hotel is centrally located to all the downtown attractions. Two trolly lines stop right outside the hotel and only cost 50 cents to ride & you can get a free transfer to connect to one of the other 3 trolly lines. You can get to ALL downtown attractions within 5-10 minutes. We stayed in a queen bed/suite on the 2nd floor.
Floors 2-7 have the same floor plans and are the standard suites.
Floors 8-10 have larger floor plans. I agree w/ a previous reviewer that the picture shown is not the picture of the room we stayed in but I would assume that it does represent the room sizes of some of the higher-priced, larger rooms on floors 8-10. The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet and free appetizer buffet in the evening. The breakfast had something for everyone & there would be no reason why you would need/want to go anywhere else to eat. They offered scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, boxed cereal, muffins, & bread & waffles to toast all 3 mornings that we were there. And its all free. We only attended one evening social-a small taco buffet. Certainly not a meal, but perfect for a early evening snack before you hit the town for dinner. And by the way, its free. The only downside-the hotel does not look like a hotel from the outside as it was built as an office buillding and renovated a few years ago into a hotel. The lobby has beautiful floor to ceiling windows over looking the river, but the rooms have small windows. We were street side, but the front desk said that even if we had been riverside that you would have to be standing at the window in your room to have a river view. Another downside-water temperature seems to fluctuate throughout the day. I often took a shower that half the shower was cold and half the time was hot. But I have read similar reviews at other older hotels so it may just be a "historic building" issue. The hotel staff was courteous & accomodated any of our requests (called a taxi & looked into/fixed the water temperature problem by flushing a line in their system). As for the pool-as others have said, it is small. We both thought it would be perfect for our 4 year old daughter had she joined us on the trip.
There is also a hot tub which comfortably fits 4 adults.

If you're 20-something and want to be able to crawl home to your hotel at bartime, this hotel is NOT for you! You want to stay at the other Hilton-the Hilton Palacio del Rio-which houses several bars on the river level. Or stay at the Hyatt-Riverwalk or La Mansion del Rio.
These 3 hotels are right where the action (and noise) are located.

I notice that there are some poor reviews now of the Homewood Suites that were not there when I was inquiring a month ago. Personally, I think this hotel is a great find, but if you're not sure and want to ckeck out some other places, I would also suggest the Marriot Rivercenter or Marriott Riverwalk which are both located on/near the river & near all the attractions. Or try the Westin Riverwalk -its brand new & is located directly nextdoor to Homewood Suites. The Westin is where all the NBA teams stayed for the playoffs this summer (which the San Antonio Spurs won.) But I have not read their reviews so I don't know anything about the 3 places just mentioned other than location/outside appearance. As for things to do. Take the river tour-its only $6 and its an enjoyable, relaxing, informative 35 minute ride. I also suggest Rosario's for mexican food w/ a "yuppy" twist to its menu. Or if you're interested in the more standard mexican menu, Mi Tierra or La Margarita in El Mercado are the popular choices. Enjoy your stay. I know that if we come back, we will be staying at Homewood Suites again.

I have stayed at other suites and still think this one is the best for the money. The rooms are big and I like the door separating the rooms.
I had a problem with the restroom. Maintenance came very quickly and fixed the problem. GOOD SERVICE

Great Selection

My husband and I were traveling with his 15 year old brother through the Hill Country. I wanted to stay at one of the older hotels, like the Menger, but kept reading about how the rooms were hit or miss. This hotel had so many positives I booked the Homewood Suites. I'm also a Hilton Honors Silver member, so I loved getting room points. As soon as we checked in, I knew I would like the hotel. The lobby is quite large, with windows overlooking the River. Our room was better than I had hoped for. The couch pulled out into a twin bed which allowed my husband & I privacy, but also allowed my brother-in-law to stay up late watching television. The free breakfast was huge. I expected fruit and yogurt, but they had everything you might want. From cold cereal to pancakes to bagels. It was especially nice to sit at one of several tables overlooking the river. The weekend we stayed it was packed b/c of Air Force graduation and the Cowboys vs. Texans practice. But the staff remained friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who needs extra room/suite-type room. Very good for anyone traveling with kids. Only drawback are the elevators, they only have 2 and when the hotel is sold out it can take 5 to 10 minutes for one to arrive.

Big Disappointment

I was very disappointed in my stay at the Homewood Suites. My husband found this hotel on the internet. The website is completely different than the actual hotel. The website showed spacious rooms. Our party consisted of five and we were very cramped for space. The pictures on the internet are not of the actual suites in San Antonio. When my daughter wanted water in the middle of the night I opened the cabinet to get a glass and cockroaches scampered in the cabinets. I told the manager the next morning and he had the room sprayed but he would not refund our stay. We moved to a different location the next night.

Not what I expected

We arrived on a Friday night during the managers social. The lobby was crowded with people drinking and we had to stand in line 30 minutes to check in. Stryofoam cups and plates were all over the lobby. It wasn't quite the appearance I had imagined. When we finally got a room the air conditioner on the entire floor had gone out. We had to wait 2 hours before we finally had any relief. One the second day of our stay the toilet started leaking and flooded the carpet. Upon our departure we asked the manager to refund our stay because we were given a brochure that said 100% satisfaction guaranteed, all he would refund was one night. We still had to pay $200.00! Do not stay at this hotel! You will be disappointed!

Top Local Tips for San Antonio

Visit Austin while you're at it! We stayed in Austin (about an hour north of SA) for 3 nights before staying in SA. We LOVED Austin and were sorry to leave. We had a good time in SA, but we could've seen everything we wanted to see in about a day and a half. An hour at the Alamo, an hour at El Mercado (Market Square), an hour at La Villita, a quick drive past all the beautiful historic homes in King William district, and an evening strolling the Riverwalk. We ran out of things to do downtown, so we visited the SA Zoo on the way to the airport and it was SO NICE! Well worth the trip.

If you have small children... ... be sure to visit the wonderful playground in Hemisfair Park! It's the largest wooden playground structure I've ever seen! Our 4-year-old absolutely loved it. It's a great place for a little one to run off some energy after a long car trip, and it's just a short pleasant walk down the Riverwalk and up through the La Villita area.
