Upon arrival at the Palacio Del Rio, we were very disappointed that there was no water in the canal, since we were looking forward to taking a daytime and evening boat ride. When our friends checked in, they remarked that we should receive a reduced rate, since the canal was closed for cleaning. The desk clerk did give both of us a discount for the whole time we were there, even though the canal began to fill the next morning. We had a wonderful time - Loved your hotel and your beautiful city. We will be back!!

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio last week during the Texas Municipal League conference in San Antonio. We were impressed by the helpful and friendly staff and the spotless and comfortable room. The front desk, the maid service, the restaurant staff...everyone was professional, friendly, and helpful. Our stay was definitely a positive experience. We will certainly be staying at the Hilton the next opportunity we have.

Very Enjoyable Experience

We stayed at the HPDR August 15 - 19, 2004 and had a really great experience. The hotel employees were exceptional - very pleasant, helpful and professional. My only caveat is that the housekeeper who cleaned our room only did a fair job (though she was GREAT about giving us lots of large towels). One day our room didn't get cleaned at all, but I think that was a miscommunication problem. It wasn't dusted very well and the bed wasn't made very well though. The rooms are getting renovated soon (which is very much needed) but the public spaces are in great shape! The hotel restaurant is just okay but with so many other places to eat on the riverwalk, it doesn't matter. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

While in San Antonio, I highly recommend eating at Boudro's. Fabulous food -- absolutely unbelievable!

OK, read the reviews on here and decided this place looked like it was in a great location on the Riverwalk. Got a great rate, $119 through Hilton.com and jumped on it.

To start with, San Antonio was totally impressive on my first visit there. Loved the atmosphere. Went with my girlfriend, and we had a blast, walking, eating and drinking all weekend long. Stayed right around the Riverwalk since we didn't have a car, but there was plenty to do for the weekend. PERFECT LOCATION if your activity will center on the Riverwalk. With SeaWorld, etc... I think a family could fill the whole week.

On to the hotel. Nice and clean, but a little older. Was actually built elsewhere and shipped room by room to SanAn where it was assembled in 1968 for the World's Fair. INDIVIDUAL BALCONIES for every room. Pool was adequate with adecent view, but nothing extravagant. Hot tub was small. We didn't use it as there was so much else to do.

We checked in with no effort, and got a room on the HiltonHonors floor, which I highly recommend. Bottled water included with the room, and a refrigerator. Bedding was superb, not sure what the previous complaints about pillows wer all about. I wish I could have brought some of them home with me. Bed was truly like heaven.

Did have a problem with the bathroom light flickering which was addressed within an hour. Only down side to the room was a miserable useless iron, whatever.

Staff was pleasant. Had a great waitress in the Ibiza restaurant for breakfast each day. Got that included in the room price for 10 bucks more a day which was definitely worth it. 5 bucks each for the buffet was nice, but not worth the 15 they charge. Another nice feature is the wireless internet access free in the bar/restaurant/lobby. Functioned beautifully and best of all -- FREE!!!

Durty Nelly's, the bar attached was entetaining as well. Drunk Irishman playing piano and singing. Happy crowd. Peanuts to eat and throw on the floor.

All in all, great hotel in perfect location. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Hotel and Location were the best

We stayed at the Hilton Palacio for Spring Break week from April 12-19th with our teenagers....the hotel was beautiful....the hotel staff courteous and very fast with the extra pillows for our room...everything was in working order and very clean....we were really happy about the location...right near the mall, near the alamo, and generally in an ideal spot to keep all of us happy....would heartily recommend this hotel...the price was completely reasonable especially compared to some of the ridiculous prices listed on some of the newer hotels that did not have locations or amenities to match.

The location is perfect. If you are in San Antonio you have to stay on the Riverwalk. Staff was friendly, room was nice and it was clean. Each room has a balcony, which was nice to have coffee in the morning. Self parking was on the next street, a 2 minute walk. I would definately stay here again, it was great.

We stayed at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio from 4/7 To 4/10. We took our family to sea world. The hotel is right on the riverwalk in an excellent location. We would spend our nights on the riverwalk and go to Seaworld during the day. SeaWorld is about 20 minutes from the hotel. We had an excellent stay. The staff was curtious and very helpful. We never had any trouble with the valet parking. Just call 5 to 10 minutes before you go down to get your car and it is there waiting for you.We had awsome service. We will definately stay again. THANKS HILTON!!!

Great Location, So-So Hotel

Just had a 2 day set of business meetings here. The location right on the riverwalk was primo, but other than that, the hotel was very lackluster. Food was very plain and uninspiring. The bed was a wreck to sleep on and poorly made up. Service was unattentive, valet parking takes a good 15+ minutes and despite these buttons that every employee wears saying that the customer is #1, the disposition of most of the staff members is anything but customer friendly. Classic example of how you can not dictate that employees care about customers if they really don't give a hoot to start with. Also their in-room high speed internet access was incompatible with our companie's VPN system and not a single member in our group could access email for the entire two days other than over dialup. Have heard good things about the Westin Riverwalk and will give that a try next time.

Very Accomodating, Nice!

The location is fabulous. Steps away from the River Center, the Alamo and right on the river walk. The staff is very eager and quick to please. Our shower head sprayed in every direction but straight. With one call downstairs, it was fixed immediately. The guest rooms are decorated well and not outdated. (The meeting rooms are outdated though.) The bath could be seperate from everything else (it sprays onto the floor and bad steam!) and limits use of the area for quite some time, and the pillows are a little funky. They also ran out of blankets (how does that happen?), so my daughter was a little chilly.
Very nice people, great restaurant, great stay. (Parking is $27 per day for valet or $14 per day 2 blocks away. Ick.)

Best service at the best location

This was our best hotel experience ever. First, we requested a king bed, a rollaway, and a crib when we arrived. That wish was fulfilled within 15 minutes. Room service was quick. The facilities folks even remembered the extra towels and creamer for my coffee, each of the four mornings we awoke there. Most of all, we left a couple of items in the room when we checked out and they were shipped to us free of charge.

Also, the room was clean, we never noticed the noise, even though our room faced the street, and there was no funny smell. Though I do hate those fabric shower curtains, the floor was wet every time I got out of the shower.

Anywhere but the Palacio del Rio

In my opinion, San Antonio is a pretty dismal tourist destination in the first place. The Riverwalk is beyond overrated, and, besides the Alamo, it's not like there's much else to see there. But, if you must go, then do yourself a big favor, and try to book a room just about anywhere other than the Palacio del Rio. The building is ugly, the rooms are even uglier, the amenities are lame, and the restaurants serve the usual rubbery food that Hiltons are infamous for the world over. Of course, the location is about as central as you can get...but, sometimes it makes sense to sacrifice a little convenience if what you get in return is a nice room with good service. Since my stay at the Palacio del Rio, I've been forced to visit San Antonio a few more times for business, and found that the St. Anthony and even the downtown Holiday Inn far outclassed the smelly old Palacio.

WAY overpriced!!

This Hilton is just okay. It's ugly construction and faux Mexican decor outweigh the average "Hiltonish" rooms and "not rude but indifferent" service. The location is quite good but the Palacio has been passed by newer, nicer models on the Riverwalk.

Don't Miss Don't skip Boudros ~ A definite must for any trip to San Antonio!

Food There are a lot of nice dining places on the riverwalk but they can be a bit pricey. We found a great Mexican food resturant a bit away from the riverwalk but still close. It is called Rosario's. The food is excellent and it is very reasonably priced. Also, try the Zuni Grill (on the riverwalk) for breakfast and the Gunther house for lunch.

The Landing - MUST DO Make sure to visit the Landing on the Riverwalk. Wonderful live jazz on the river. Fabulous drinks and polite/attentive staff. Great for relaxing and avoiding the loud crowd!
