Loved this hotel

We picked this hotel because it was near the riverwalk and had a good website. The service was excellent, the hotel manager was onsite and ready to assist with any of our needs. The rooms were a bit small (like in NY) but it did not cause any problems. We would stay there again and again.

good hotel

Stayed at the Emily Morgan, San Antonio during a business visit from 18-22 May 2003. Read lots of reviews at this site and there were mixed opinions about this hotel. After experiencing four nights there, I was pleasantly surprised. The service was, at the very least, outstanding. They had several levels of staff checking on you and about your expectations. I was a bit disappointed with the size of our room, though we got an excellent rate, so I assumed this was the "bargain" room. It was clean, nicely furnished and we also were happy to see Starbucks coffee and Aveda products present. The mattress felt new, so needless to say, we slept like babies! The location is the best -- walking distance to the highlights. The only thing I would look into in the future, is a cheaper place to park. Their parking service is valet only and is $16.00/night. I did see several other spots with cheaper prices in the area. I hated paying this much, but it was convenient. I cannot speak highly enough about the service -- I doubt you could find this attention in a larger hotel!

Incredible Stay

This is by far one of, if not the BEST hotels that I have ever stayed in, and I do a rediculous amount of traveling! There is nothing like the beauty, quality, service, and magnificance of the Emily Morgan Ramada!

Mediocrity personified...

I travel to San Antonio for business regularly and stay at the Marriott Rivercenter. Couldn't get in this last trip so I stayed at the Morgan. I won't again. My problems during the stay were minor but constant. There's no high speed access from the rooms; the only high speed connectivity is in the library, and they closed it one evening for a private party. No one ever answers the phone for valet parking; I ended up having to call the front desk to ask that my car be brought around. I brought my eighteen year old son on the trip; when he went to the lobby bar to get a soft drink, he was told in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't be served - not even water. There are 10+ floors, and only two (very slow) elevators.Dim lights and an emphasis on atmosphere can only take a hotel so far. I'm going back to the Rivercenter...

Loved the Emily Morgan!

We stayed at the Emily Morgan last weekend and had a fabulous time. I'm not sure why EMH gets such bad reviews. The hotel was beautifully decorated, very contemporary. The rooms were spacious and included great views of the city and Jacuzzi tubs. The beds were literally "heavenly", so comfortable we will be purchasing one directly from the hotel. We got great service, everyone was very friendly. To top it off, the second day we stayed the manager offered to upgrade us to a suite because someone was interested in renting out the floor we were on. We were of course very pleased. The only drawbacks were that the only parking option was valet for $16.00 a day for uncovered parking. *Hint* Go 1 short block to the Hyatt and parking for $10.00 p/day in a garage. We were very impressed by the Emily Morgan and can't wait to stay there again.

Wonderful hotel

Just finished a weekend stay at the EM and had a wonderful time. My fiance booked the hotel and then I checked the Trip Advisor before we left. After reading all of the reviews I wanted to see for myself how it was. 1. The Staff, everywhere we turned the staff was more than helpful and very friendly. 2. Our room was great it was very large and everything was perfect and worked. Including the Jacuzzi. Room service was very fast and delicious. 3. Food was excelent and the Jazz singer on Saturday night was good and relaxing.4. Location. You could not be any closer than this hotel, walked everywhere and never got in the car until it was time to leave. I highly recommend this hotel and I would defintely go back. I went for a wedding that was held in the Fairmont down the street and I actually preferred the EM to it. As far as the complaints that people have I saw none of them.

t pull it off

Stayed at the Emily last week. Picked it because it had very high ratings on many sites. While the facility is quite beautiful - trying tolook cool like the W, I found that putting the staff in black suits just is not enough. My first room was tiny and had no toilet paper and a broken chair. The staff could not offer my wife and I another room with a queen or king bed, so we settled on two double beds. In this room the jacuzzi tub was broken as was the sink. The "twice a day" housekeeping showed up at 4:30 for its once a day visit, and the pool was closed. Overall, the Emily was a real disappointment.

fouffe gone wrong

from A TripAdvisor Member
a whole lot of fouffe, but pedestrian quality.......the fouffe could work well if they would follow through with the ordinary things; for example, the little globes on the tables with exotic sugar would work well if you could just get a spoon delivered with your coffee.....the room countertops were covered with stains from the guests before. there was leftover coffee in the in-room coffee pot. we called to leave housekeeping a message our first day there, to please tidy the room while we were out- we were told there was a 'schedule' they had to 'stick' by.

Just and Ok stay

from ColdInMN2
We arrived at around 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by the friendly front desk staff upon check in. Our room was nice and large, however our travel partners room was very small and it was right next to ours. The feather bed was awesome. We were excited to learn that we had a jacuzzi in our room, only to find out later that it didn't work. We were offered a $20.00 discount per night on our room, which was appreciated. The room service is pricey for the limited menu. The Sunday brunch was excellent, but the restaraunt service was average at best. We ate breakfast twice during the week and you pretty much had to seat yourself and beg for someone to help you. The one complement is to the front lobby and front desk staff. They were excellent the whole time we were there. Whether it was calling for our cabs or setting up reservations, they were very good about helping us out. This hotel is within walking distance to many things. Walking past the Alamo every day was interesting. If you are looking for something close to the downtown area this is very close, but it does have its drawbacks as mentioned above. If you have any doubts about the room sizes when you arrive, ask to see them first. You will be amazed at the difference in size from the rooms with the queen beds to the king beds. Enjoy the Alamo!

t even stay there and got charged!

from lisabir
We had plans to stay at the Emily Morgan 12/23. Unfortunately, our plans fell through and we had to cancel. I called on 12/19 and talked to the girl at the front desk. She said she would take care of it, no problem. I didn't give it another thought until our credit card bill came in. There was a charge for $103 from The Emily Morgan, which was even more than our regular room rate! We called and after 4 days finally got someone to call us back. We were informed that since we didn't have a cancellation number, we must not have cancelled. Of course we weren't offered one, so we wouldn't have one. We are still fighting this bill. There are plenty of other nice, respectable hotels in San Antonio. Go find one of them!

Top Local Tips for San Antonio

The Emily Morgan Is The Perfect Romantic Getaway I stayed at the Emily Morgan and it was truly amazing. You're literally on TOP of the Alamo and steps away from the nice part of the Riverwalk. The location is amazing, but nothing compared to the SUPER comfortable matresses, down comforter, feather beds. The style of the decor is amazing and the bathrooms make things even classier. I've stayed at the Marriot and the Hyatt. While the Hyatt does have amazing full wall length window views of the city, The Emily Morgan has my vote for the city's best. Plus, I booked it on Priceline and it was only 100 dollars a night. Being a Florida resident, that's how much it costs here to stay in a Super 8. Stay here, you will NOT be dissapointed!

Alamo Visit early in the week to beat the crowds. Week-ends you will wait a long time. Make sure to visit Guenters for breakfast, beautiful old masion and flour factory. Wait is long ,so plan on at least 3 hours on sunday.

Mexican Food and Transportation My #1 tip for San Antonio would be to stay away from the big name Mexican restaurants (Casa Rio, La Margarita) and drop in some of the holes in the wall on the fringes of Downtown. The food, and the prices, are much better. My #2 tip would be to park the car for the weekend and walk. It's much quicker to walk around Downtown than it is to wait for your car to come around and then go find parking. You'll get where you're going much quicker walking...
