Top Local Tips for San Antonio

Schlitterbahn Surf and Save days are a bargain! $28 for ages over 12, and there's plenty to do in the two parts that are open. Bring your own cooler of food right into the park ... there's an enormous amount of picnic tables under the pavilions in the shade, and it seems like everyone's doing it! Very, very family friendly facility. Clean and lots of fun for everyone. They have some unique rides where you actually travel up small hills on your tube, and we found all the rides to be great. The Dark Knight is a slower paced, two-person (or you can ride solo if you're old enough) ride that smaller kids can enjoy with a parent .. and our pre-teen loved riding it with her teenaged brothers and her parents. The more weight on your float, the faster you'll go so you can get some good speed up if that's the case .. but it's still not scary at all! Be prepared to walk 6 flights of stairs to get up into the main ride tower, but it's worth it!

Riverwalk 4th of July Avoid the Riverwalk on the Fourth of July if you hate crowds. Just wall to wall people and very hard to move on the NARROW sidewalk!
