Located next to the Alamo and near the River Walk this hotel is nicely located. Good value for the money.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Crockett Hotel

One of the Worst

from DODSPECREP
We stayed at the Crockett Hotel as part of an Elderhostel group. There was mold on the ceiling and bathroom tiles, the carpet and spread were musty, the towel rack fell off the wall, the sink was cracked, and ... because there were no fitted sheets ... the bed kept coming unmade, the mattress pad bunched up, and it made sleeping very uncomfortable.

I would strongly suggest you consider other accommodations.

Front desk snob

Excellent location. (to return rental car as there is NO PARKING!)

The river walk and city is breath taking.

Bed was broken...room was stale...windows did not open...shower almost knocked me through the tub..and water was very slow to drain.

Nearly missed flight due to late "free" airport shuttle (which is not direct so factor in extra time) ...the front desk snot that watched our angst for 45 mins in the lobby forgot to give us our voucher for the "free" shuttle, thankfully we had some cash on us.

Excellent historic hotel

just got back from a one night stay at the Crockett.....we found the hotel to be very pleasant...we had a excellent corner room with windows on two sides.....i did not feel the hotel needed updating as some has suggested....overall, a pleasant experience in an excellent location across the street from the mall and the alamo

Never Again

My family stayed at the Crockett Hotel on a recent trip to San Antonio. I very disappointed in the entire experience. First of all, there is no onsite parking. You must either pay for Valet parking at $19/night, or find your own. Our room was not in the main building, but near the pool. The musty, damp smell nearly knocked us over when we opened the door. The room was small, dark, damp and generally run down. I realize that this is a "historical" hotel, which means old. However, I feel that things could have been kept up better. The staff was the one bright spot in the 2 days. They were very pleasant, helpful and quick to resolve any issues they could. My next visit to San Antonio will definately not include this hotel.

Unresponsive and unsanitary.

First, had a hard time getting the Crockett Hotel to confirm my reservation. Had to repeatedly send e-mail to the hotel and finally had to contact their management company, 1859 Historic Hotels.

Second, after arriving in the room and pulling the sheet back, I laid on the bed and noticed that my face was directly against the mattress. I realized that the bed didn't have fitted sheets.

I've traveled extensively and never encountered a hotel that didn't have fitted sheets.

I was obviously grossed out that my face was against a germy mattress.

I asked the front desk for a fitted sheet. Told they don't have them. I was surprised.

Their sister-hotel, the Menger Hotel, is diagonal from the hotel and I would be surprised that they don't have one fitted sheet to loan to the Crockett.

Not a big fan of the Crockett. Will choose another hotel for Fiesta next year.

Contacted 1859 Historic Hotels management afterward. No response (yet). Perhaps they read messages from this venue and will figure out the author of this posting.

Kept me wating way past check-in time. Said room wasn't ready. Others checked in ahead of me but wern't internet prices. Rude staff from front desk to top. Too much for too little.

Unimpressed with Pool Side room

from DougViages
My adult aged son and daughter stayed with me three nights in mid-May. The hotel was in an OK location, next to the Alamo and Menger Hotel. Menger and Crockett are now jointly owned. We used the Menger Pool, nicer then the Crockett's. Our room by the pool was small and older. Unimpressive facilities in general. The mitigating fact is that the hotels on the Riverwalk are Very Pricey, so this was an OK tradeoff.

Nice place!

A first-time visitor, I found San Antonio a very nice place with good weather and friendly people. Stayed at the Crockett Hotel. The room was good, having both a bathtub and a jacuzzi, and was located at the poolside with all its green garden and wild birds. But the restaurant was lousy.

It was OK

from Ladydi7LongIsland_NY
The foyer was inviting in the fact it was all stone. When we got to our room, the hallway was a little nauseating from the smell of cleaner on the carpets. If the hotel air-conditioned the hallways, then the carpets wouldnt smell so much. The dining room was OK for a quick breakfast, but eat across the street at their sister property. The hotel is directly in back of the Alamo, and that is an added plus. Alot of restuarants very close to the hotel on the Riverwalk, which is only a couple of blocks away. Very easy walking. I would go back to San Antonio in a minute, it was a great town to visit.

Top Local Tips for San Antonio

Must Eat at Mi Tierra It's the best San Antonio Style Mexican food restaurant...you can call the restaurant 1 hour prior to when you want to eat, and if you ask nicely they will put you on the waiting list so that when you arrive you won't have to wait nearly as long. While you're waiting you can shop in the Mercado area. Great deals on t-shirts, Mexican items, etc. Have fun!

El Mercado Check it out! We had a great time and found some amazing deals. We walked the 11 blocks from the hotel which I would not recommend but it wasn't bad. I loved being able to find Mexican items and deals without actually having to travel to Mexico. Also, if you pay in cash most of the dealers will mark the price down. They are ready to haggle.

Riverwalk The boat trips along the Riverwalk are pleasant and fascinating but horrifically crowded. Wait till later in the evening after 8 and have one part of your party stand in line for the boats while someone else purchases the tickets to speed up the loading process.
