Great Rooms, clean and quiet

Tis hotel is 10 minutes from DFW. It has a very good restaurant, excellent computer access, and is a great place for a meeting. The rooms are clean and quiet, newly remodeled. Good option close to DFW.

Great location and comfort

I stayed at this location while on business, wanting to be near the airport. It was a very positive experience. I can't think of anything negative about the room; it was comfortable, impeccably appointed, and quiet. The bed was wonderful, as usual for Westins. The bathroom was a bit small considering the caliber of the hotel; it provided everything necessary with a contemporary flair. The sink/counter/cabinet was sleek and modern while being functional.

The hotel restaurant was great, as well. I had salmon with grilled asparagus. The food was wonderful. They have a great wine list as well as great service.

The front desk and bell staff personnel were efficient and sincerely interested in guest comfort. When I requested an item from room service, it was delivered promptly.

I got a great, last minute room rate via Priceline. I would not hesitate to stay there again and would recommend it to my friends and colleagues.

I stayed at this property for 3 nights in February for business travel. The hotel was either close to or at full capacity. It has a nice lounge/restaurant off of the lobby. Drinks and food were good. At times, there was only 1 bartender so service was slow. My dinner took over 30 minutes, again due to the large amount of diners.

The room was very clean and comfortable. It had a nice flat screen TV, clean bathroom with ample towels and amenities and one of the most, if not the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. I don't know if it was the linens, mattress or huge amount of pillows, but I slept wonderfully and upon my return home, my own bed now seems substandard. I'm seriously considering ordering a Westin bed with their linens.

The meeting facilities were good. The continental breakfast was typical. I wasn't too fond of the some of the lunch selections but we we had a large group so it was expected. My room was on the 14th floor and it seemed that 2 of the 4 elevators were not operating so with all of the crowds, it took some time to get to my room and back to the lobby. I noticed that guests on lower floors utilized the stairwell.

The property has a decent fitness center on the top floor and an outdoor pool surrounded by a small amount of tables and chairs. Westin's are smoke free so this is the only area that allows smoking, other than outside of the property. There isn't much within walking distance from this hotel other than a Denny's and a gas station across the street. However, it's very conveniently located to the highway and it only takes about 10 minutes to get to the airport. A nice business hotel with 24 hour room service, comfortable rooms and pleasant staff. The pros outweigh the cons so for a business stay, I rate it above average.

not ready for prime time

My first bad experience was at the front desk checking in. A rude receptionist told me there were no rooms available. As I was walking out of the door to leave a manager ran up to me and said they could get me in as I was to stay 6 nights for business. Later that night in the bar at least 30 people came in due to cancelled flights. Apparently there were plenty of rooms!! This hotel was recently renovated and it is beautiful in every aspect. However, during their renovation they apparently took off all the door dampeners (rubber bumpers) off the door frame to paint and the doors just rock when they slam shut. It is the loudest I have ever heard. It is absolutely so disturbing that it is unable to get any rest. I took the stops off my bathroom door and installed them on my main door. No noise! I know many people were complaining as it was a popular topic around the bar and in elevators. On Super Bowl Sunday they closed to main bar and resturaunt to guest and put us in a small room to watch the game with little to no services. Very poor management! Never again....

Deluxe Rooms

Booked here by company for overnight stay.

Checkin was quick and uneventful. Nice lobby. Room was truly deluxe (stay in hotels about 90 nights/year). Huge pillowtop mattress bed with massive duvet and pillows - extremely comfortable and in top 10% of all I've slept in.

Unlike previous posts, it would appear that recent stays reflect better quality control on housekeeping and such. Room was very clean.

Also a bonus was a large flatscreen TV hanging on the wall, good-sized desk and good quality coffee maker (unlike the plastic 8$ ones typical for hotels) with Starbucks coffee. Small touches that reflect overall class of room.

I did find the room a tad noisy. Noise from both aircraft overflying (expected for airport hotel, and flights overhead stopped in time for bed), but also door was inadequate for keeping out converstaions and slamming doors in the hallway.

There was nothing near the hotel, unfortunately, aside from a Denny's and gas station across the street. You can take a 10$ return shuttle to a nearby hotel though. Airport shuttle was free.

The restaurant had a huge TV in bar and multiple small ones great for watching the NFL game, and beer wasn't too bad in price for a hotel ($6/pint). I didn't eat in restaurant but food looked ok (for what that's worth...).

All in all an above average stay.

Loved the New Westin at DFW

I stayed at the Westin 1 night during a business trip. I arrived around 8pm and there was a large group of women at the hotel. They were having fun and in town for a nation wide meeting for thier company. Due to this the hotel was sold out so being a Starwood Gold member I was upgraded to one of thier beautiful corner suites. As another review said, they are worth the money I bet! I enjoyed a nice dinner in the Blue Frie Grill. The restaurant was packed but most everyone was just drinking. My food came out very fast and was HOT!!! They crab cakes were excellent! As always with a Westin my favorite 2 things are the Heavenly Bed and Bathroom. Good Bless the marketing team that came up with this idea and started the "Bed Wars"!!! I got a great nights sleep and did not hear a lick of airport noise. I will be staying at the Westin again in the middle of November to catch an early morning flight home.

Great Hotel - Not ready for us

I went to the Westin for a national training event with my company. We were there from 8/17-8/20. Upon arrival, I called the hotel from the airport for the free shuttle. They arrived in 20 or so minutes but as we circled the airport to pick up others, some had been waiting 2 hours for the shuttle. The ride from the airport is brief, about 6-7 minutes. When I arrived at the hotel, check in was very easy and the line was short. I had my room key in hand and went to my room. The rooms are very nicely done, with modern furniture and flat screen plasma TV. I was in room 430.

The next day, most of the women had come in or were coming in. I went to the Blue Fire Grill, which is the restaurant inside the hotel, for lunch during a break. We placed our order rather quickly, but it took 2 hours for the food to come out. yes, the restaurant was busy; however, there were only 2 waitstaff working during the lunch. I saw NO FOOD coming out for the first hour and a half. Completely understandable if food had been consistently being delivered in the order people ordered, but NO FOOD was coming out. The manager ended up giving everyone who was waiting their food complimentary.

Elevators were also a bit shaky. People were stuck on the elevators numerous times during my stay, with maintenance workers having to come out and pry the doors open so people could jump out. There are only 4 elevators, and only 2 seemed to actually be working during my stay.

Checkout was again easy with in room check out available through the television. It's really too bad, the hotel was gorgeous and food, when we received it, was good inside the restaurant. I just do not think this hotel is able to accommodate that large a group of people at one time.

Outstanding service!

The stay at the Westin July 22, 2006 was nothing short of fantastic. I had gotten this hotel on priceline for a really good price, and on reading some of the reviews from 2005, was quite concerned that I may have overpaid. Well, Westin has completely turned this hotel around from the experiences of those reviewers. The hotel was very easy to find (having driven in). Check in was fast and efficient, and they were able to meet all our requests, with the exception of the upgrade to the corner suite (more on that later). Our room was very clean, very well furnished, with no odors. There were little quirky things, like dated electrical outlets, but that did not detract at all from the decor. The flat screen plasma TV's were a modern and elegant touch, with bright, vivid pictures. The bed.....heavenly. The shower....heavenlier than the bed (that's right, it was so good, I had to make up a word). Overall the room was very upscale. Being an aviation fan, I had to get a view of the DFW airport, and this was the only thing that did not live up to or exceed expectations. The design of the building has a wall that comes out from the facade by about 3-4 feet, and that cut off the view of a decent part of the airport. As a result, the second night of our stay, we sprang for the available corner suite. It was WELL worth the difference in cost. The suite has two rooms, a couch and chair, coffee table, kitchenette with mini-fridge, and two TV's. Our suite faced the airport (duh) and the view was nothing short of spectacular! I was extremely pleased, especially considering what the total price had run me.

As far as service, Staci at the front desk was EXTREMELY helpful, very friendly, and very customer oriented. They should promote her. Shaunn with the concierge's desk was also very helpful in providing directions, helping with bags, and making every effort to ensure that we had all the information we needed when asked. Those two people made this very brief stay one of the best hotel stays we have had in a while, and exceeded our expectations for the level of service and accomodation delivered.

Overall, if you are looking for a great hotel, and you get this one on priceline (some people have reported getting it for 1/2 what I paid), don't be dissappointed. It's going to be a great stay!!

As a footnote, there is a mall about 10 minutes away with tons of stores, a food court and a few restaurants, and there is a great set of other restaurants about 8 minutes away. They have a shuttle to the mall, and to the airport. We can't really comment on the restaurant at the hotel, because we did not eat there.

Nice hotel, inexperienced staff!

The Westin DFW is a nice hotel - we had a very comfortable stay. The rooms are clean and well-appointed, although somwhat cramped. (We had a room with 2 double beds so a king might be better but the bath is still very tight.) The bedding and towels are very plush and the plasma TV is great. We were on the side of the building with a view of the airport and our kids loved that. They fell asleep with the shades open, watching planes landing. For being so close to the airport, noise was not an issue at all. Our only complaint was the staff was totally ignorant of the Dallas area! We have been to Dallas before several times but have never stayed around this part of town so we weren't quite sure how to get to a restaurant. Oscar, at the front desk, had never even heard of "Traildust Steakhouse" (a popular chain of restaurants in the area) and gave us directions that were completely wrong. I mean, NO WHERE close. From the road, I called back the hotel and asked for the Concierge, who sounded about 18 years old and again had never heard of the "Traildust." Long story...but after all was said and done (and about 1 and 1/2 hours later!) we were at the "Traildust" eating, no thanks to the hotel staff. Overall, the hotel has a convenient location and has been updated very well; just make sure you have your OWN directions to anywhere you want to go because the staff is not dependable.

No problems... highly recommend.

The Westin DFW was a wonderful oasis in hell like heat wave. No problems with check in service, I was quickly given a room on the 14th floor. My room had a plasma tv that worked well and a heavenly king size bed. My room was very quite especially for an airport hotel. On the roof is a small outdoor pool, whirlpool and large gym. Overall great experience at the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Irving

Restaurants Not much restaurants within walking distance. Only a Denny's that was actually good. The room service was good and the Bluefire grill looked good but did not eat there. Drive just a couple of miles to the Grapevine area for good restaurants and dining!

Dining options Go East on 114 to Macarthur Blvd (2 exits away) and head north to find a ton of dining options in a 3-mile stretch. Go West on 114 (about 5-6 exits away) and another plethora of dining options in the Grapevine, Southlake area.

The restaurant in the Westin Surprisingly, the restaurant in the Westin (close to the airport) is very affordable, and the food is top-notch, so I recommend heading here for a quick bite instead of the Denny's across the street! Seriously, the difference in price for a burger is only $1.
