Top Local Tips for Houston

Rent a Car We were curious why people seemed to be amazed we weren't driving a car, soon we realized why. Houston is not public transportation friendly. The Bush Airport which the main airport is 25 miles from downtown boasting a large price tag taxi ride. Then all the attractions are not public transportation friendly except for the museum district. To the Space Centre, it would have been a $80 taxi ride and the tours were did not fit our timetable. To the shopping/antiques district (Galleria) it is another taxi ride. The taxis are not that realiable either where you can't just wave one off the street because you barely ever see them on the street. They part in certain areas and just sit there waiting for a fare or someone to call in for one. To this end, rent a car so you can actually get to where you want to go.

The Downtown Aquarium This was a unique dining experience. If you are staying near the downtown area, you really should go. My dinner was delicious and I sample my friends' meals and everything was fabulous.

Galveston If you like beaches, rent a car and make the < 1 hour drive south to Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico. The beach was awesome!
