Great place to stay that is stumbling distance to 6th street

This was my first trip to Austin. The staff at the Omni made me feel as though I was a regular and treated me like VIP. The pool and Jacuzzi on the roof was nice. The best part about the Omni is its stumbling distance to all the bars on 6th street and easy walking distance to the rest of Austin. (I love to walk and workout so 3 miles is short to me)

Great service, but rooms need some updating.

My husband had a room booked for months @ this hotel to attend the Austin City Limits Music Festival. We felt very fortunate to have this reservation due to the threat of Hurricane Rita. We chose to leave Houston Friday 9/23 to go to Austin to avoid the storm, which thankfully did not make a direct hit on our city. We had a reservation for Thursday night but due to the horrific traffic, we were not able to make it. The hotel was very accomodating and cancelled our reservation for Thursday night.

My dog and I arrived hot, tired, and stressed on Friday afternoon while my husband went to the ACL festival. I was thrilled to be greeted right away by a concierge who was very welcoming. We had let the hotel know that we were bringing our dog, their rule is 30 lbs. or less w/ a non-refundable $50 pet fee. Our beloved dog is 70 lbs. but we could not leave her to weather the storm in Houston. I was so greatful that the gentleman who greeted us upon arrival did not say a word. In fact he took the time to pet our dog and let me know that the hotel offers food, walks, etc. What a relief!

When my husband made the reservation he applied for the Omni Club. With this free program we received a coupon to use for a room upgrade. I was so pleased that even w/ all the hurricane evacuees @ the hotel and all the people there for the music festival, they were still able to upgrade us to the Club Floor on 13.

The room was HUGE. It had a living area, small kitchen w/ coffee maker (sink only, no other appliances), king bed, bathroom, and large floor to ceiling windows. Club floor rooms get you access to beer/wine & appetizers from 5-7 PM and continental breakfast from 7-10 AM. We enjoyed the spacious room but we did notice that it needed some updating. The tiles in the bathroom were cracked and worn. There were several noticeable stains on the carpet. It seemed clean but definitely well used. The bed still had a nasty old fashioned cheap hotel bedspread (I am easily repulsed by those things). The mattress seemed old and creaky. You can hear doors slamming along the hall at all hours. However, there was a clock w/ "sounds" that I really liked because I am someone who requires "white noise" to sleep. One of the best features of the room was FREE wi-fi.

The location of the hotel is great. It is on 8th street. 2 blocks from the bars & restaurants on 6th, and a short walk to the capital.

We were most impressed with the service @ this hotel. All of the staff were friendly and extremely welcoming & helpful. I found them to be genuinely caring- even w/ everything going on @ the hotel.

One more gripe, the pool is SMALL for such a large hotel. I was able to use it one time on Sun when there weren't 50 screaming kids splashing around. The gym is on the small side too, but it was not as crowded as the pool. Did not eat @ any of the restaurants or use room service.

All in all, the excellent service, free wi-fi, and the size of the room is what will stand out in my mind about this hotel. I think the room features (like bathroom & bedspread) were average and need some serious updating, considering it is a AAA 4 diamond!

Very nice stay

Went to the Omni Hotel in downtown Austin for wedding anniversary. Room was very nice, the hotel is really nice and the employees are very helpful. The hotel is in walking distance to everything. Had one minor complaint about the room (not worth mentioning). The manager of the hotel gave me a personal call at home to apologize. Will stay there again.

Nice Stay

Nice enough hotel. Like another reviewer, I got a $101 price on Hotwire, making this an excellent deal. Had a good downtown location, room was nice (what you'd expect from a hotel in this category) but nothing particularly special. There's a huge atrium (our room was a corner, looking both into it and looking outside) - the other side of the atrium is an office building with glass walls looking in. There were also some small shops in the atrium. Concierge was helpful. They had free wireless internet access, also.

Overall, a nice place (especially for the price paid), and no problems at all, but nothing particularly outstanding.

Absolutely Loved The Omni

The Onmi Austin Downtown is absolutely the best hotel I've ever stayed at. When we arrived we were already checked in and they had upgraded our room to a two room suite! It was almost as big as our home! We really enjoyed our stay and we were not ready to leave!

Nice, quiet, convenient place to stay

Stayed two nights with my wife on a short getaway.

Very courteous and professional staff, including the concierge. Arrived early and had no problem with checking in early. Parking rate per night very reasonable.

Clean and spacious room, although city view not particularly pretty. Wonderful rooftop pool and jacuzzi. Quiet.

Found that some dirtbag had eaten things out of the honor bar and left the capped empty containers in the bar. Pointed this out to front desk, and they assured me I would not be charged for anything.

All in all, a very positive stay. Not the Four Seasons, but not too far below.

One general note about downtown Austin: We assumed there would be some shopping ala Magazine or Royal Streets in New Orleans. Well, there are cool shopping places in Austin, but they are spread out all over the place. You can't really spend the day walking in and out of shops because there is not a compact place with enough stores. Great restaurants and bars in downtown area, so hotel is convenient to those. But we had to drive everywhere to shop.

Family Loved the Omni

Upon our arrival we were met with a very friendly staff. They informed us that if we did not want to pay the $12 a day to park that since it was the weekend we could park on the street by the hotel for free, nice tip. We chose the garage, only draw back there was the extremely small parking spaces. Everything else from there on was great. Our room was nice and my 7 year old son loved the swimming pool on the roof. My husband took advantage of the nice workout facility with my son and then they enjoyed the pool the rest of the day while I attended the PTA State Conference. The beds were comfortable and the bathtub was large enough to soak in. One request from my son was maybe one more cartoon channel. Otherwise, we really ejoyed our stay.

We were delighted to find that the hotel we booked through Hotwire at $100 per night was the Omni Downtown. Excellent location, walking distance to 6th St, Warehouse district. Our room was huge (907), overlooking the atrium and, despite the fact that the hotel was busy with a wedding, it was really quiet. Nothing negative to say at all. Very unusual for me!
We didn't eat at the hotel as we were so close to so many options but the lounge area was very pleasant and there's a sports bar too if you want to meet up before hitting the town.

The location is great for the downtown/6th Street/Congress Ave area, and a cheap cab ride or long walk to warehouse district or west 6th street area. The staff are very friendly, but the hotel itself wasn't overly impressive for the full price rates. My only specific complaint is that you can hear noise from adjacent rooms very easily.

Recommendation: You should definitely sign up for the Omni Select Guest program. In additon to getting me frequent flyer rewards, I was sent a certificate for 50% off a weekend stay when I signed up. I used it right away for this trip, which makes the hotela really good value at 50% off. I also had my hotel self parking (in the garage under the hotel, entrance from 8th street) validated at the front desk when I checked in... not sure if that is a Slect Guest privilege, but it was a great surprise!

Highly recommend the Omni Downtown

My husband and I spent 8 days in Austin and we highly recommend the Omni Downtown. The hotel was close to all downtown, warehouse district and South Congress activities. We were able to walk or take the free trolley to most activities. The hotel is beautiful with friendly and attentive staff. The room was comfortable in size and very clean. The bathroom was clean and had a wide bathtub, which was great for soaking after a long day of walking and sightseeing (they provided free bath salts and bubble bath). Besides daily room cleaning, the housekeeping staff also had our bed turned down with chocolates on the pillows when we returned in the evening. Free newspaper at our door daily. We stayed on the concierge floor to take advantage of the daily breakfast and evening happy hour treats, which were delicious. They have a gourmet pastry chef on staff and we had fresh baked pastries and muffins every day in addition to cereals, fruits, yogurt, juices, milk, teas and coffee. The happy hour consisted of hors d'oeuvres, chips and salsa, fresh veggies and numerous beverages. We greatly cut down on how much money we spent for meals by taking advantage of these offerings. The rooftop pool is beautiful, but small if you are a serious swimmer. The staff provided us with directions or maps to every event we attended and offered suggestions for the many restaurants and musical venues available nightly. The only area we felt needed improvement was the elevators. They have only three (and one extra for the highest floors) which moved slowly, thus causing a delay getting to and from our room. We have decided the Omni Downtown will be our choice every time we visit Austin.

Top Local Tips for Austin

Try to plan for a weekend if you're in Austin on business For someone who comes from the Northeast, Austin businesses close early! If you are there on business, there are plenty of places to eat and drink but if you want to check out the local shops you either have to wait until Friday, when they are open later, for the weekend or try to cram it into your lunch. Austin has all sorts of independently owned and unique businesses that looked like fun from the window. I especially wish I had a change to check out S. Congress street.

Congress Avenue Please go to Congress if you are looking to take a walk, catch some cool boutiques, locally owned restaurants and go thrift shopping. It has everything! Go to Guerro's Restaurant, great staff and food! Try to find a RARE Magazine somewhere, they hit every place on the map! It is a street lined with cool, laid back places to see! I went to a antique store and bought some cool imports from india! They had a very cool contemporary hipster vintage shop there too!

Tex-Mex Guero's Taco Bar in SoCo is fabulous!
