Historical Traveller Reviews of Lakeway Inn Conference Resort Hotel
Lovely, Relaxing, Perfect
from KatKnapTrvlThe restaurant served delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so there was no need to leave the property for meals.
The conference facility is great, and the event planning department was very attentive and accomodating, coming to our rescue when last minute changes had to be made. Their attention to detail is fabulous! We could not have asked for a better conference experience.

from A TripAdvisor MemberMy collegues and I had a very strange experience at this hotel that I would not care to repeat. After our conference, we (three women and a man) went to the hotel bar for a drink. There were other members of our group there watching the Astros game. As we were leaving the hotel to get to the bar, we noticed a scantily clad, tattoo covered woman standing with a man immediately outside the hotel entrance. She began to sing loudly and inapporpiately as we were walking away. We thought it strange, but made our way to the bar.
After sitting in the bar (nothing to write home about with truly terrible service) for about 10 minutes, who should walk in the door but this woman (obviously a prostitute) and her pimp.
She again began to sing -- this time the National Anthem, even though the game was half over. We decided that she was stoned, and we expected the hotel managment to ask her to leave. Not so. She then approched the male member of our group, introduced herself and began to stroke his hands and arms in front of all of us. He politely rebuffed her bold advances, but she would not leave until I told her that our friend had three women with him, and we were not interested in her solicitation -- thanks.
She did leave briefly, but then returned to the bar to harrass other members of our conference -- all older, quite distinguished men who were also obviously quite uncomfortable with her inappropriate behavior.
As I was watching this unfold, I noticed that the bartender was actually assisting this woman and her pimp. In fact, she began to order drinks for everyone in the bar, and the bartender dutifully took her unwanted drinks to different tables. When he came to our table with a bottle of cheap champagne and four glasses "from the lady at the bar," I told him that was inappropriate, and why had security not been called? He was extremely rude, and stated that he did not know who this woman was with, and so on.
I would think it would be obvious that a drunk/stoned woman with too much make-up and her bare belly and breasts hanging out of a hoochie-mama outfit would not be with a bunch of suits who were staying at the hotel.
I also noticed that one of the hotel managers came into the bar during this time, saw this woman and her actions, and left the area. I initially thought that he might be calling security, but no such luck.
The woman then changed into a bikini top and a sarong and came back to the bar. She walked back to our table and asked if we liked the wine that she sent us. When we said "no thanks," the bartender came up to her, put his arm around her, and told her in a snotty tone of voice (directed towards us, not her) to "not bother these people, dear."
We left the bar soon after that. On our way back to our rooms we ran into the manager who had been in the bar. My friend had not seen him there (her back was to him when he came in), and she politely complained about "the woman of the paint" who was harrassing us. The manager said that he would take care of it. We ended up just going back to our respective rooms.
The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that the hotel staff were in full knowledge and cooperation with this pimp.
Unless entertainment in the red light district is your opinion of fun, I would not recommend this hotel.
Buffet bummer
from A TripAdvisor MemberUnfortunately this proved to be a bad choice. The food was mostly adequate if not tasty. But the roast beef was in short supply and the traditional Thanksgiving turkey was nowhere to be found. The first round from the bar was served up promptly but followup service was nonexistent.
All in all it was overpriced, of indifferent quality and poorly served.
The view of the lake though was great.
Disappointed
from A TripAdvisor MemberDISGUSTING, DISGUSTING!!!!!
from MSSWONGMy daughter wanted to see her dog and I read on the Internet that Lakeway was pet friendly. I booked a deluxe room with lake view. However, when I checked in, we were told at the front desk that pets were not allowed in the building where our room was located. The front desk person made no suggestion of what to do with the dog. We called my daughter and son to come get him immediately.
The bellman who led me up to the room told me that they have an "older" section for the people with pets. Ok, so I went to the front desk and asked about those rooms and was re-routed to the old section. No apology, no talk about a refund, and absolutely no talk about what these units were like.
They were DISGUSTING.
The rooms smelled, they were old with old dingy lighting, old air conditioning units and get this, there was petrified dog poop under the writing desk. I was scared to walk on the floor or touch the bedding. The maids did not vaccum the floor and when I let the front desk know about the poop, they sugggested I fill out a comment card. My son spilled some candy on the floor the first day and it sat there the entire weekend.
The fitness room was not ventilated. There were several cardio machines with no fans overhead. Talk about sweating up a storm. The air conditioning registers in the room were filthy. Again, it was just plain gross.
The pools were clean in the morning with trash and towels were littering the grounds by night time.
For $204/night, I would have expected a lot more. This was not worth a penny. We spent most of our time at my daughters apartment because the room was so nasty.
Finally, the "petrified dog poop" was in fact lint residue from the A/C unit, but was not mentioned until guest checked out of the hotel. Two supervisors immediately inspected the room and found the lint under the desk area.

Austin Children's Museum If you're visiting Austin with children, the Austin Children's Museum is a must. Located in a large, state-of-the-art facility, this excellent children's museum has something for people of all ages. Youngsters (and their parents) enjoy a tactile experience with art, science and the global community. Permanent exhibits include Austin Kiddie Limits, which introduces children to Texas music and serves as stage for year-round live performances. The water-themed Splish teaches kids about marine life before they turn trash into art at the Creation Station. Brainteasers offer problem solving through observation and logical thinking. Dine at the Oasis Go early, but catch dinner at the Oasis. Great views, beautiful sunsets, fun atmosphere!
Iguana Grill This is great place to eat at in the local area. I would suggest going before the sunset so you can enjoy the breathtaking views. It is also located on Lake Travis.
