Historical Traveller Reviews of Barton Creek Resort and Spa Hotel
Not worth the money
Our stay at Barton Creek was disappointing and not worth the money. Our suite was decent but nothing like what you would expect for the price. The food was also overpriced and the service we received was terrible. They got our dinner order wrong twice and when it finally arrived as ordered, it was cold and unappetizing. Also, the staff did not respect our privacy. On our first night, we were startled to hear a voice coming from the other room of our suite after we had already gone to bed. Apparently, the man entered because we didn't answer his knocking at our door. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we would not go back. Sure, there are people who have had a better experience at Barton Creek but why take the chance when there are so many wonderful hotels in Austin?
Amazing, stress-free, fairytale wedding!
The highly professional and competent staff of Barton Creek provided an amazing, stress-free, fairytale wedding for our daughter and son-in-law on October 7, 2006. The wedding weekend events were orchestrated with perfection due to the efficiency, careful planning and execution of every detail, no matter how small. My husband and I live five hours away from Austin as do most of the 180 guest that attending the wedding. The Director of Catering, Kristin Arntson was a delight to work with. Coordinating a wedding "long distance" could have been a tremendous challenge and the event could have been a disaster. Because of Kristin's knowledge, guidance, organization, and promptness to keep me informed of details that needed to be attended to timely, everything was perfectly planned, beautiful and enjoyable to everyone. Due to Kristin's diligence in making sure that no detail was omitted, we knew the total cost and everything that would be provided for our daughter's wedding, no surprises!! As part of the Wedding Package, Kristin was also our coordinator for the rehearsal and the wedding ceremony; in addition to keeping me informed the day of the wedding as to the progress of our vendors and she coordinated the wedding party, before and during the ceremony. I have received high compliments from the outside vendors that we hired, the D.J., Photographer, production designers. The wedding buffet was beautifully presented and the food was as delicious at the wedding as it was at the tasting. Thanks to Joni Opperman, Account Development Manager, our guest were treated like royalty and are still raving about the events of the wedding. They thoroughly enjoyed the golf scramble on the Crenshaw Cliffside that had been reserved just for them, many enjoyed the soothing Spa and treatments. All of our guest were treated by the entire staff with respect and kindness. Everyone's stay was enhanced by the helpfulness and aid of the valet service, front desk, service in the restaurants and guest rooms to meet any of their needs. For a stress-free, "turn-key", no hassle, fairy-tale wedding that you will never forget, Barton Creek Resort and Spa is definitely the place.
Loved MY wedding and stay!!!!!!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience at Barton Creek Resort and Spa! The staff is top notch, from Kristen (the DIrector of Catering) to the bus boys! They went above and beyond to make sure they answered all of our questions and to make sure we were comfortable with all of our decisions. We interviewed several of the other venues in town and none of them could offer what Barton Creek did (view, room selection, capacity, the Pavillion and photo ops). The food and cakes were first rate and our guests are still raving about the meal!
We will be sure to go back for EVERY anniversary!
I reccomend them 100%, you will not be disappointed!
I just had my wedding reception at Barton Creek last month and thought it was beyond excellent. I was coordinating an event in Austin yet I was living in Boston and the wedding coordinator was excellent at Barton Creek. I am not sure what experience the bride below is writing about because I have a hard time believing that we could have such different experiences. My sister a couple of years ago had her wedding reception at Barton Creek as well and this past December I had mine and the resort is simply amazing. The staff is incredible, very friendly, professional, down to earth etc. I have nothing but praise to offer. In fact both times that my family has had an event here--our guests have told us that this is one of the best weddings they have attended. The Director of Catering was always available to us....I would email her constantly and she always got back to me right away and was simply a delight to work with. I can honestly say that she was one of my favorite people at the resort to work with and when she wasn't available her assistant would always be there to fill in. Even though they had multiple weddings going on during that time--we never felt that they weren't paying attention to us--the Director of Catering was so attentive to our needs and made sure that we were happy with everything. I think this place is amazing to have a wedding at simply because they take care of everything---we never had to worry about our guests being taken care of because they were always on top of everything and anything. Our wedding suite was beyond our expecations...the food was delicious...the staff was extremely professional yet friendly. I would strongly recommend having an event here--you will not walk away disappointed.
Barton Creek was superb
I recently had my daughter's wedding at Barton Creek and it was beyond our expectations. The service, food, accomodations, and help from the wedding consultants was superb. Everything we asked for was exceeded by Barton Creek, making it a memorable and fabulous occasion for our family. From the moment we arrived at the resort, we were treated like royalty. The Hill Country Dining room, Austin Grill, room service, and spa were all used and enjoyed by many of our guests. Everything we discussed before the wedding was accomplished by our wedding consultants. Our guests raved about the dinner buffet we had for them, and the food was better than our previous tasting session. They handled our band (which was 10 people) perfectly and provided everything we asked for. The cakes were the best I have ever had and was enjoyed by all our guests. The Darrell Royal Ballroom was beautiful, linens perfectly done as we had asked, and the setting in the Atrium was stunning. I loved the service by the waitstaff also, and was pleased by every aspect of the wedding, reception, and our accomodations. Kristin and Stephanie and Tom could not have been more helpful and were a delight to work with. They were professsional and thorough. We also had a close friend who had their daughter's wedding at Barton Creek serveral months before ours and they were just as pleased. I highly recommend Barton Creek for any wedding or occasion a person might have. We loved it.

Ben Crenshaw Suite
We stayed in the Ben Crenshaw Suite for our first wedding anniversary. It was pricey, but the room was well worth it. First about the room, it had a dining room table, couches and chairs, and a large kitchenette. It was not a full kitchen for it had only a ice maker, mini fridge, and a small sink, but it had lots of counterspace and cabinets. The bedroom was huge along with a large bathroom with a large walkin shower and jet style tub. There was also a second smaller bathroom. This resort provides many recreational activities and all is free, but I am not sure about the golf fee. This includes the arcade, fitness club, and miniture golf. The food at the resort is excellent and the service staff is 4 star. This hotel is a step above the Four Seasons Austin. The outside spa and the indoor pool are heated where the outside baby pool and main pool were not. I would have like it to be heated. I was disapppointed the suite by having to pay for snacks and soda. For the amount of money we spent on the room you expect this to be free along with HDTV signal for the plasma TV. And the little chocolates on the pilllow should have been the size of a candy bar. But this hotel is definely the place to stay in Austin.
Wonderful Spa and Golf Retreat
Overall this place is as advertised. The golf courses are beautiful and the resort is well kept. Rooms are decorated in general Texas style with well above average beds, pillows, and furniture.
The staff is excellent. Extremely polite and I was treated as well here as I have been anywhere. Obviously well trained.
Admittedly this isn't what you would consider a 'great value' but it's not over the top priced as the previous review implies. Don't get stuff from the in-room snack bar or the golf pro shop.... common sense. But with that said the Austin Grille is very fairly priced for a hotel of this stature. Great grilled chicken sandwhich with a drink is about $15 for dinner w/ tip. Not much different than Chili's! Not to mention not far away there is some great inexpensive food on Bee Caves Road. Don't let money scare you away, just be smart about where you buy. I can understand people feeling like this is expensive, but to call it a one-star really is unfair. This is a very nice place with great architecture, service, etc.
My wife loved the spa and most activities are included in your stay. Exercise equipment is in perfect condition, flat panel tv's with complimentary headphones, overlooking the hill country, hard to beat that for a workout.
Understand that whatever price you're paying, add 20% for service charges. You don't have to tip anyone except the valet, it's all in that 20%. Not a great deal but if you know it going in you won't be surprised.
Parking is an issue. Drive past the resort entrance and on your left there is a free garage. Much, much better deal than the $12 per day to valet. Valet won't save you time anyway.....
If you're looking for a great golf/spa getaway with majestic views and to be treated well, this is your place. Relaxation at its finest. If you're looking for the best value in Austin, go elsewhere. Personally, I was very impressed and hope to go back again next year for some more great golf in some great weather.
Barton Creek Resort is first-class
Barton Creek Resort is the best in Texas. I have been going there for many years. The staff is friendly, the amenities outstanding and the area is relaxing. Yes, it is located in a neighborhood with million dollar + homes. Yes, the rooms are a little expensive, but they are worth it.
The pools are fabulous. The spa is outstanding. The golf is great. They have many family-friendly activities including trails and free minature golf course.
First class and guests tend to be from Texas. From the minute you drive up and are greeted you know you are in for the best.
Not sure what the other reviewer was referring to as Barton Creek certainly isn't a remote campground.
But if you want first class accomodations surrounded by first class guests, this is your perfect Texas vacation.
I stay there at least 25 days per year and enjoy every night!
Okay, But waaaay overpriced
My husband received a weekend at this resort as a reward for work. Although the resort was okay it was totally not worth the money. First off, I made a reservation for a king sized bed. Seeing that our package was titled 'romantic gettaway' I was surprised when we were shown to a room with 2 double beds. The bathroom was old, out of date, and run down. The staff informed me that reservations only hold rooms not type of room. Next a I had a pedicure at the spa which cost $75 (they add a %20 tip onto everything automatically) and was nothing special. The spa wasn't even that nice.
This place isn't worth the money they charge!
We just returned from a 2 day stay at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa. We were a little disappointed that since our last visit a few years ago our room was a bit run-down, such as stained carpeting and insufficient lighting. A previous guest had apparently carved a large drawing on the leather headboard...not exactly the ambience we had paid for! On the positive side...a great fitness facility and gorgeous hill country setting. Breakfast in the Hill Country dining room was very nice. Overall, it was a good experience.
Top Local Tips for Austin
Great dining options at very reasonable prices
Austin is full of great restaurants at very reasonable prices. We LOVED South Congress Cafe, Chuy's, and Guero's. Of course, no trip to Austin is complete without a visit to The Salt Lick in Driftwood (about 30-40 minutes away).
Jazz and Dinner
We ate at a wonderful place called the Jazz and Supper Club. The food was outstanding!
