While staying at Headrick's River Breeze Motel in Townsend, we were constantly monitored by the owner. He drives by all the time, and is a very rude man. During our stay there, some friends with two small children dropped by to visit. We thought it would be fun for the kids to swim in the pool, but within seconds of them getting in the pool, the owner came by and told us they had to get out or he would call the police. This was totally unnecessary. All he had to do was tell us nicely that they could not swim there, not threaten us with calling the police. By the way, NO ONE else was in the pool. Also, he reminded us a couple of times we had reservations for four people - we couldn't even have anyone visit us!

The website for Headrick's River Breeze states "where everyone is treated special" and that everyone is treated with southern hospitatlity. This cannot be further from the truth.

While the location of the motel is great and there are nice views of the foothills, I did not enjoy the constant monitoring. I will never stay there again, nor do I recommend it to anyone.

Save money & stay in Townsend Stay in Townsend and drive up to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg. The rates are cheaper and it is a short distance to the Smokey Mountains also. Very quite.

Under the Great Smoky Mountains There is a very large and interesting cave in Townsend. Tuckaleechee Caverns is privately owned but open 9-6 7 days a week during the summer season and fewer hours during the winter. Our guide said his father guided tours for 34 years. He talked about things tour guides rarely mention, such as how light bulbs are changed in caves. My 22 year old son, a cave enthusiast, really enjoyed it. Strongly recommend the tour for anyone.

Quiet side of the Smokies If you want a nice quiet area to stay, Townsend is the place. There is one traffic light and not many tourist attractions. The Park is at just down the road.
