Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Pigeon Forge Hotel

from cookbritish
For this review I really stayed with the ratings I would have rated the hotel 3 or 4 but it was just that okay with some problems. We booked this hotel over a month ahead. We were told that we would have wireless internet which was going to be important to us. We arrived at the hotel and the checkin was prompt and the service was fine. The hotel is dated especially on the outside in the lobby and hallways.
We were then told we would have a room on the 7th floor. (This is a problem as the hotel has only 6) They explained that they has a detached building away from the main hotel.) This building is out in the front of the hotel and is very old. We went to the room and it for the most part had been updated except in the bathroom, which looked like it has escaped remodelfor over 40 years. Although it did have a nice large jacuzzi. The room did not have internet service as promised. We booked an suite so it had a detached living room. The couch (which i slept on) was the Worst matress I have ever experienced.
Looking at the positives though
- Good Staff
- The hotel for the most part is nice
- The restaurant is nice

Very Impressed

from ChicagoDandA
I was hesitant as you see from the other reviews. However, the December review helped convince my wife and I. And, we are glad we stayed here. The hotel is a little older, but the fireplace jacuzzi suite was spacious and clean. As with most hotels the jacuzzi in room was too small for two people. However, the pool area and main hot tub were great. The pool water temperature was the best of any hotel I have ever been in. The front desk staff were friendly when we had questions. It was a perfect pet place also for our two small miniature pinschers. We would stay here again. Of course we stayed February 12-16 and the hotel was nearly empty so not sure how it is at different times of year. I will say always do the best you can when picking hotels as many people look at and have different opinions so not all reviews are unbiased. Again, go to the Smoky Mountains and stay in Pigeon Forge at this Holiday Inn !!!

A Decent Value in the Heart of Pigeon Forge

from tony5969
My lady friend and I stayed at the hotel on Dec. 27th as a base from which to explore the Great Smoky Mountains. Our 7:00 pm check-in was fast and cordial. Our ground floor room featured a king bed and was pretty spacious. The TV selection was good and we used the free internet access to help us plan the rest of our trip. We found the bathroom to be a bit troubling. The brown marble pattern around the sink gave the appearance of being dirty. Also the finish in the tub was peeling around the drain. On the other hand, the AC was very modern and quiet although the heat pump would occasionally spurt out an blast of cold air. The bed itself was fine; not uncomfortable but not memorable.

We sampled the hotel's restaurant for dinner and then for breakfast. It was apparently a slow night as there was only one young lady there acting as both hostess and server. She was pleasant enough overall but two things bothered us. One was when we were initially seated in a corner near the kitchen when there was but one other diner in the place. We would like to think that our uniqueness among the other hotel guests wasn't a factor but nonetheless she did honor our request to be re-seated. The second concern was that we did not feel a sweatshirt and jeans was appropriate dress for a hostess. The food itself was fine; we were just bothered by the service. The experience at the breakfast buffet was much better. The food was just okay but our server was friendly and professional.

Overall, we enjoyed our room itself more than the other amenities. If we were to travel to the area again, we would likely stay over in Gatlinburg as we not only found the attractions more interesting and inclusive but also the constant traffic between the two towns would make the premium rates there worthwhile.

Stayed Here Oct. 9-14, 2005

from neverseenitbefore
My husband and I stayed here with our children, ages 4 and 6. We paid $72 a night, and I think that was a fair price for this hotel. This Holiday Inn was adequately clean and friendly. We used the indoor pool and the exercise room - both were clean and served our needs. Skip the hotel dining room, because the food is not so great and for the money you can find plenty of better dining elsewhere. Do be aware that this hotel accepts pets. Not a problem in any way for us, but it may be for some. This hotel receives three stars not because it failed on any level, but it just is simply an average hotel.

Great staff/terrible rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
The staff was friendly and helpful. However, the rooms were terrible. Chairs in the room had torn fabric. The towels were yellowed. Tables had broken legs and the lamps didn't work. One afternoon there was even dog feces in the hallway.

First, we were sent to a room that hadn't been cleaned yet and we checked in at 4:00 p.m. You would think the maid would have made it there by that time. They gave us a different room. The bed was so uncomfortable. I didn't sleep for the three days we were there. You could hear the springs each time you moved on the bed. I stepped into the shower and almost fell due to slime in the tub. I felt like I was getting dirtier by using the shower. The pool was okay, but the sides also had the same slime as the tub. I paid $56.00 a night and the bathroom door says $180.00 per night. Anyone who pays more than $35.00 a night for this room is insane. I went to the laundry room to wash my clothes and there was no detergent in the dispenser on the wall. I went and bought detergent and then the washing machine wouldn't work. One good thing - the restaurant food was good. Overall it was a very depressing stay. I would never stay there again.

Perfect Stay w/ Holiday Inn!

My family and I visited the holiday Inn July of 2005. Everything was wonderful. The room was clean, the staff was very nice, Room service was great. We got Clean towels, soap, Etc every morning. The pool area was great and very clean. They even had a game room for the children plus a fitness area. Not to mention, this hotel is in the middle of pigeon forge where there are millions of things to do. This hotel is a wonderful family atmosphere and i would highly recommend this hotel!

Christmas Shows

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our room at Holiday Inn was very comfortable and clean. Upon arrival staff greeted us with hot apple cider and cookies still warm from the oven.
The breakfast buffet at this hotel was great! We were there for 4 mornings and it was delicious every day. Servers were gracious and helpful.
The Christmas shows in Pigeon Forge and Dollywood were well-presented. Lots of children attended and the performances were family friendly.
We had a guided tour of Christmas lights in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. They were beautiful.
The Blackwood Brothers Breakfast Show was disappointing because we paid for a scrumptious buffet and, instead, a server brought our plates out and the food was cold. So was the coffee. They didn't have live music. All the other performances did.

Very nice

First of all this Hotel was right in the middle of everything, but back off the road which made for a quiet night. Rooms were very clean and overall really nice. There is a really nice pool and game room for the kids to play in which was great. Didn't eat in the hotel, but food we saw and smelt looked good. Good choice for about $75-$80/ night.
