Historical Traveller Reviews of Econo Lodge Riverside Hotel
One of Our Favorites
This is my first pick when choosing a weekend getaway in Pigeon Forge. We have stayed at this hotel several times in different months, and never had a bad experience. This hotel is clean and comfortable. The indoor pool is a decent size (enough for my nephews to have a good time). The rooms are decorated in colors that are comforting and soothing. We always enjoy our stay at this hotel.
Great Hotel, great price.
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel several times. Everything is always clean and comfortable. With one exception, the staff has always been friendly. This episode occured when we tried to go swimming during hours when the pool was supposed to be open, but was closed and they reported it was because someone had vomited in it. However, we found this strange because we had just walked by it and no one was in the area and they had also closed down the jacuzzi and locked the gates early. Other than that, this hotel is great. We have stayed four to five times and are planning another stay at the end of this year. This is the first hotel we always check with when trying to make reservations and it is always the cheapest. The rooms are great, a little small but adequate and they are convenient because they have microwaves and refrigerators in a small kitchen area. The only thing that could improve the hotel would be indoor entrances to the rooms, especially in the Winter. We would always recommend this hotel.
I would rather sleep outside with the ducks!

This was my families second time at this hotel. Our first visit was wonderful, our second was the complete opposite. The room we had requested when we made our reservation was given to someone else. I have small children who love the indoor pool and we like to stay close to avoid a cold walk in October. I was upset, but reassured that the room would be avaliable in the morning if we would like reserve it. We stayed in the hotel that night, knowing in the morning we could move to a more convient room. I went to the front desk at 10:30 the next morning to get our room changed, and was treated like trash. They told me there was no room close to the pool, that they were all occupied. Which was a lie as I saw several people checking out of those rooms. They had no intrest in making thinks right for my family. They were rude and mean, and seemed to have fun treating me that way. Shame on the management and the desk staff.Just remember, most people talk alot more about a bad experience that a good one, which in my case is not good news for Econo Lodge Riverside. To bad the ducks can't run the front desk, there the only great thing about this hotel.

We stayed here for four nights while celebrating our anniversary. The place was great! A little small but probably only by a foot square. Since it was just us two it was fine and for an economy place it was Way above avearge. Fridge, microwave, coffe maker, cabinets, extra pillows, two closets. The rooms were clean and offered full cable tv. Better than anything else, the mattresses were COMFORTABLE. The free continenental breakfast included hot and cold cereal choices (two of each) bagels, muffins, sweet rolls, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, milk, seating inside or out in the courtyard. A heated indoor pool with kiddie pool and hot tub, laundry facilities, game room and free wireless internet access. Located on the river with picnic tables and cooking grills. This place had EVERYTHING tucked into a small, yet comfortable space right on the parkway. Not to be confused with the EconoLodge Parkside, we will definately recommend this place to our family and friends.

Normally I love this hotel. We usually stay at least one night every year but this year I was very upest. The service was rude. We arrived after midnight the night before Memorial Day. The price was outrageous considering we had to be out by 11am the next morning. Always before they gave us a deal or the price was a LOT lower but when I asked why it was so high he was very nonchalent and said holiday. He was not friendly at all but since we have always loved the hotel we stayed anyway. Big mistake. The sheets smelled so bad I got sick and my daughter complained that the sheets were scratching her. I worried about my 6 month old because the sheets smelled like phormaldihide. I awoke all hours of the night because of it and my developed headache. The phone didn't work until my husband fixed it and when my daughter called the desk to make sure checkout was at 11am since no one told us (it was always llam before but I wanted to be sure) she was hung up on. The only good thing I can say about this hotel on this trip was the ducks and the river.
Econolodge-Riverside is the best!!!
My husband and I returned from a 3 day stay at the Econolodge-Riverside on 03/18/05. It was our 4th time at this hotel and we will continue to stay there when we return. We always get a king size jacuzzi suite. The rooms are very clean. The indoor pool area is clean and very inviting. The hotel is in walking distance to several restaurants and a new shopping village. The ducks at the river are so used to humans that you can feed them by hand. The entire area of Pigeon Forge is a fantastic vacation. It doesn't matter what you enjoy, you will find it here. Dollywood (which we have never visited), the Smokey Mountain National Park and shopping is all there.
Would definitely go back and recommend

For an Econo Lodge this is a great place to stay. It was more than moderate. There was a great breakfast. We booked 2 rooms. When we first arrived we had a double with no Jacuzzi, but after entering the room someone else was already booked. That's ok the hotel made up by giving us a room with a Jacuzzi. The rooms were great. I will definitely stay there again if I decide to stay in another hotel room in Pigeon Forge. I won't have to think about it. It was better than the Shular hotel, The Grand, and other Econo Lodges. It was updated with all modern essentials.
Look out for extra charges!
We booked our vacation through the Steve Ellis discount tickets. I requested to be on the 3rd. floor of the Econo Lodge By The Riverside, facing the river. My first phone call was for pricing info for the Econo Lodge By The Riverside with Dollywood tickets. The Gal was very friendly and helpful. The second phone call I was disappointed that she wasn't at work due to weather and no one could help me book our reservations. The third call was about the same. The fourth call she was there. But after reviewing the price quote, she stated "Your request for the 3rd. floor riverside rooms will have an extra charge of $10.00 . You can request but you might not get it." I did not except the extra $10.00 charge. We arrived and were given our rooms on the 2nd. floor by the pool. This is a bad choice of rooms if you like peace and relaxation. You can hear people including the children running, talking, and going into their rooms. Also, we heard T.V's and laughter from rooms behind ours. I noticed that the flyer we had gotten stated that this hotel had a "NEW EXPANDED BREAKFAST" the hotel check-in counter workers said, "It was the same as last years breakfast". I would encourage everyone to take a tray to carry their drinks and food to their tables or rooms. The breakfast area is congested and in my opinion could be re-arranged to keep the flow of traffic moving. People juggle their hot drinks, juice, cereal and bagels. Accidents in the making.
Otherwise we had an "ok" time. We usually go to the mountains 5-8 times a year. Maybe we need to find a more friendly place for people who like to have a relaxful time without hearing other people's conversations and children's loud screams and crys.
Great place to stay
My family just returned from staying at the Econo Lodge Riverside and it was great. We arrived around 11:00 am without reservations and the courtious staff gave us a room without waiting till 4:00 like some of the others we've stayed at. The rooms were really clean they even provided extra pillows. The pool was nice. We really enjoyed the heated indoor kiddie pool since we have a 4yr. old and a 2yr. old it was very nice. (TIP: If it's going to be cool weather bring something to cover-up with since you have to travel from the outdoors get to the indoor pool) The river behind the motel was nice also and the kids enjoy feeding the ducks and geese. bring lots of quarters for the corn machine. We are already plannining our next stay.
Top Local Tips for Pigeon Forge
Fun Time Trolley
I also highly recommend riding the trolley there are numerous stops along the way and for $.50 a ride you can go anywhere around the town. My husband and I rode the trolley the whole time we were in pigeon forge, and we discovered places we didnt even know existed!
Rod runs....will be VERY crowded with LOTS of traffic.
If you are planning on coming to Pigeon Forge for spring or fall rod runs be aware that the traffic situation will be bumper to bumper the whole time....and will be backed up all the way to Sevierville. Be prepared to take alternate routes into and out of Pigeon Forge to save time.I suggest doing your homework online with mapquest to find some good routes. You should also be prepared to do a lot of walking up and down the strip if you don't want to spend hours sitting in traffic just to go eat, etc. It's a fun time, but the crowds are huge. Of course, this means Dollywood will be very crowded, too. I suggest parking and taking the trolley to Dollywood. It's only 25 cents per person vs. 7.00 per car to park at Dollywood....and the trolley takes you right to the front door.
Beware of traffic!
Be prepared to sit in slow traffic! I've only been here when there is an event taking place. Not sure what it's like on an average week(end) (no events, etc.), but if there's something going on, be prepared! Traffic is S L O W...
