Try Gatlinburg Instead Gatlinburg is SO MUCH prettier than Pigeon Forge and is only about 20 minutes away. Pigeon Forge has a lot of attractions and things to do so it is highly over crowded. Traffic jams all day and into the night. It often takes 45 minutes to go down the main strip. So every time you want to go anywhere including just to eat, it takes a long time to get there. Gatlinburg has things to do, lots of great places to eat and Pigeon Forge is close by so you can still visit there - you just won't be stuck sitting in traffic every time you leave your hotel. .

Love the Great Smokey Mountains in the Fall This is a wonderful area to visit, especially in the fall and spring. However, October is the busiest month, so make reservations early, and be prepared for congested traffic. This is the place my husband and I enjoy visiting the most of any place in the US. It's beauty is breathtaking and it's worth the trip any time of year. Do your homework--read about the hidden areas and backroads--some of the most beautiful sights are off the path.
