Great Historic Hotel

We booked this hotel using our Wyndham ByRequest membership (free - sign up on their website for free food, drinks, and internet in your room, and pillow/blanket/room preferences). We were VERY pleasantly suprised by the beauty of this converted historic train station. Our room was very uniquely shaped - definately not a "box" of a hotel room. It was a tremendous bargin for the price we paid: four-star quality for two-star price.

Our room was large, comfortable, and quiet. The lobby is beautiful, and the desk service was great.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Country Music Hall of Fame and the honky-tonks on Broadway. It's a short taxi ride to the Parthenon (Awesome sight, but strange to see this building/museum in Nashville???), and the NFL Stadium.

We have stayed in several Wyndham Historic properties, and this one is by far our favorite. Given my choice, I will not stay anywhere else in Nashville.

Gorgeous hotel, good location, questionable service

Just stunning restored building. Very large rooms, recently renovated, all new furniture. Good location, within 10 minute walk to CMHOF & Downtown hotspots. That being said, staff was aloof, bar inside closed by 9 pm, and they charge a ridiculous $10 for internet access - while the Holiday Inn Express across the street has it for free.

Worth it for the architecture, could use a better "guest-first" feel from the staff.

I booked this hotel even with some less than satisfactory reviews as it was a great location for the trip. My friend and I were in town for one night to attend the Nashville opera. Now the positives: From the moment we pulled in the staff could not have been better. The valet parking attendant was at my door immediately, inquired had we stayed before and when told no he took a few moments to point out some of the exterior features. As we walked in he told us that the lobby...which really is stunning...had been completely restored and is finished. Check in was smooth and quick, the front desk staff very friendly and extremely helpful. We later asked at the desk for some suggestions for dinner in the neighborhood of TPAC (where the opera was) and they offered several and called them to check for reservations. Once we decided on one I asked how quickly a taxi would arrive once called. They quickly offered that they had a complimentary shittle and would happily take us there. As the restaurant was 5-6 blocks from TPAC my friend and I were discussing that we could grab a taxi from there. (It was the opera...we were both in heels, not walking shoes. :) Oh no! Just call and the driver will return to get you and transport you on from there. He gave us a card, told us to just call and he would return as he dropped us off. And he did! Really great staff service all around. The negatives: As has been noted the hotel is still undergoing restoration. The public areas appear to be completed, but the rooms have not. Both the front desk staff and the valet asked us to please return in 4 months as the projection is that all rooms will be completed by then. We obviously had a room not done yet and as has been noted before it appeared quite 'dated'. It was very large and generally quite clean. However the hallway was awful, stained carpet which was in need of a good vaccuming. Not to say it was not comfortable, although the beds were on their last legs I'd say and needed new mattresses soon, but far from the elegance the rest of the hotel projects. Picky little irritations: one tiny little wastebasket in the bathroom, the only one. No mini-bar and 2 bottles of warm bottled water at a charge of $3.50 each! Advertised high speed internet and wi-fi....but at an outrageous cost for use. Bathroom dated and very small. If in the months to come the room restorations come anywhere near the quality and elegance of the public areas then this is going to be one very fine hotel. Again.....even with the dissapointment in the room itself, the quality of the staff and service still leads me to give this property an honest above average rating at this time.

Enjoyable stay - lovely beds!

Stayed for 5 nights during CMA Festival in June and had a great time. This is my 2nd visit to this hotel and it has improved since 2 years earlier. It is cleaner than before and the door staff in particular are cheerful and helpful. The renovations in the main foyer were nearly complete when we were there and it looks just beautiful. When the bedrooms are renovated this hotel will be seriously cool (based on design and color/fabric choices that were on display in main foyer). As it is right now, the bedrooms are not luxurious but they are comfortable and the beds are superb. Location is very good and within a short walking distance of “the strip”. Great breakfasts every morning! Will stay again next time I'm in Nashville.

Unique and Charming - renovations almost complete

Just stayed at the Union Station and felt compelled to write a quick review.

I can't believe some the negativity in the past reviews. I can only think that the hotel is just completing its renovations and the process must have effected the reviewers' stay. As for my take, this hotel is about the best you're going to get anywhere for the money. Charming, unique, and romantic. The lobby is spectacular. The location is prime.

Highly recommend.

Really Disappointed

Let's begin with the valet service which was the best service of the entire stay. Really helpful, quick and happy to be of any assistance. The location of this hotel is ideal for anyone who is going to a show at the Ryman and TPAC (Polk Theater), interested in some shopping and dinner.

The hotel is beautiful on the outside and the lobby is almost magical. The rooms are large, bathroom was small, and the blankets on the bed were rough and not comfortable at all. The room was nicely decorated.

We were in somewhat of a hurry so we decided to eat dinner at the restaurant at the hotel. The service was VERY slow, and we almost had to walk out without getting any dinner. The food that we finally ended up being served was delicious. The salad was really yummy and the chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and spinich with adoule sausage was super tasty. Unfortunately we had to scarf it down in five minutes.

This was my second stay at this hotel. The first time it was fantastic, but this time it was just a hotel like any other hotel. Next time I go to Nashville, I will more than likely stay somewhere else.

Ok - well as others have said here the hotel is undergoing major renovation which WASN'T mentioned when we booked over the phone. Probably because of this we were offered a significant discount on the rack rate (this was explained as the internet only rate).

Parking would appear to be an issue at the hotel with most of the spaces immediately outside the hotel seemingly reserved for visitors to the arts centre next door, as this was at the end of our holiday and we were only staying 2 nights we took the valet parking option at $17 a day. Lazy maybe but the guest car park looked to be quite a walk away and we just couldn't be bothered.

The renovations to the lobby looked all but finished and I have to say it looked stunning, it's worth just popping in just to see the Tiffany stained glass ceiling.

The room we had on the 5th floor was sizeable enough and was emphasised by the high ceiling. The decor was adequate if a little "tired" but the linen was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was miniscule but we were'nt planning on holding a party in there so it was fine for it's purpose - the sink was cracked and broken (the plug mechanism didn't work) we could have complained but as I said we were able to do all the things (like clean teeth, wash hands, etc) that we needed to do and as it was the end of the holiday just put up with it. I'm glad we had such a discount on the room as it really wasn'nt worth any more that we were paying for it. (reception of some channels on the television was very bad however I didn't travel all the way to Nashville to sit in my room and watch television).

Location was very good with it only being a 5 minute walk to the Gaylord Entertainment Center and the honky-tonk bars on Broadway, Ithe hotel also has a courtesy bus in the evenings that can ferry you between the two areas). Although some on here have complained about train noise (surely if you stay at a former train station you must expect the tracks to be close by?) but we didn't hear anything late at night that disturbed our sleep.

We didn't eat in so can't comment on the catering facilities.

All the staff we met were always friendly and helpful so all ll in all it was a pleasant and enjoyable stay, just not worth the full asking price at the moment so don't pay it!

Maybe it Will Be Better...

We stayed here because of the price downtown ($109/night) and it looked great online. I used to live in Nashville and knew it would be fun to be downtown. The first room we had everything was broken and the freight trains were noisy. They quickly moved us to a better room. I have to say that the staff is helpful and kind, although they are very understaffed. The lobby is breathtaking and the 2-story ceilings in the rooms are amazing. The location is terrific with walking distance to the downtown attractions. Hopefully after renovations the rooms will be updated and kept better. This is my first stay at a Wyndham so I don't know if the quality of service is typical for a Wyndham or just this hotel but I feel that even though they are under renovations the rooms could be cleaner.

Just spent one night at the Wyndom-Union Station Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. I looked at several sites before booking the room, none of the sites stated that this hotel was under renovation, I paid 154.00 for one night, that is 109.00 for the room, plus a 20.00 extra person charge and taxes. Also had to pay 17.00 just to park my car overnight! At 8:00 am in the morning, jack hammers were heard thoughout the hotel, when I went to check out, I basically had to scream at the front desk clerk and the dust was unbearable. They were jackhammering in the lobby. The room was very outdated. I would like to return again when renovations are completed. It really is a cool old building and it is walking distance to the Nashville nightlife downtown. Don't want to say everything was bad, the bed was extra comfortable and the valet was very friendly and helpful.

Beware of misleading photos

Coming from England,this was my last nights stay in Tennessee before flying home the next morning.How nice I thought to stay at the historic Union Station with its renovated old waiting hall.The photos on their website look stunning.BEWARE !! The main feature of this hotel is still being worked on and the Health and Safety boys ought to be having a ball with this disruption - uneven floors,loose carpet and trailing power leads.Also,on checking in,my pre paid room was suddenly unavailable and they took ages to find a suitable alternative.Secondly,although we arrived at the end of the breakfast buffet time,the staff's reception was completely indifferent and all the tables were full of other guest leftover crockery.We didn't bother to stay any longer and went straight to the airport for breakfast. Our room was OK but TV very small compared to other (cheaper) hotels we've stayed at in the US.
On checking out,I asked whether they had seen their website and whether the current condition of the hotel matched it.Not sure whether it was because I had asked for their HO contact to complain but they eventually offered me a 50% discount.
I'm sure it will look great when finished but check before you book that all is finished.I wish now I'd read comments like the other reviewers before booking.

Top Local Tips for Nashville

BBQ Judge Bean's is just a block away - great BBQ. Don't eat at the tourist spots on Broadway.

The Station Inn If people hadn't recommended this bar/music venue there is no way I would have gone in as it looks really rough from the outside. However, there was a phenomenal bluegrass band playing (The Steeldrivers) and the place was packed to the rafters. The music was amazing (and I don't even like country music) and the atmosphere was electric. The crowd seemed to be mainly locals but a real mixed bag of ages and types, overall they were very welcoming. I had one of the best nights out ever - i can't recommend this place highly enough for anyone who enjoys live music.
