waste your money

I truly expected more from a 5 Diamond hotel. Although our room was nice and the hotel looks nice, the service was lacking. The restaurant manager needs to seek a new line of work. For what one pays, service should be much better, and when things go wrong, someone should make amends. High Tea was a disaster. Not enough staff. I would not go back.

s Premier Property

My wife and I and our two sons were thrilled with the elegance of this hotel and professionalism of its staff during a two-day stay at the Hermitage in November. This 1907 jewel and member of the Leading Hotels of the World group has a soaring stained-glass lobby. The rooms are spacious with zillion-thread count sheets, top furnishings, glass door showers, dual vanities and tub. The staff was polished and good-natured and treated us as well as the CMA celebrities that were staying on property! We had a great breakfast at the Capitol Grille. Nashville should be proud of the Hermitage.

(Having switched here from the Sheraton Music City, I can tell you there is no comparison. The Sheraton Music City is a moderately priced hotel located some miles from downtown Nashville in a heavily-commercial area near the airport. The hotel seems dated and tired. )

Elegant Hotel with Excellent Staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just returned from my second visit to the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville where I spent three great days with my husband and my parents. Our second visit to the Hermitage was as wonderful as our first visit. From the moment one enters the grand lobby of this hotel, one instictively knows that five-star service will certainly follow. Our junior suites were very spacious and comfortable, and the marble baths were sheer luxury. The staff from the front desk to housekeeping are all exeptionally friendly and helpful. We returned to our room one late morning after breakfast in the Capitol Grille to find housekeeping still preparing our room. The housekeeper was actually able to call me by name and offered to return to finish our room when it would be convenient for us. I asked her to continue, and while she worked, she inquired about our trip to the Nashville area and also about our hometown. I cannot praise the concierge staff enough, especially Laura Lacy, who went above and beyond her duties to make both of our trips to the Hermitage Hotel a memorable event.....from suggesting day excursions to arranging quality limousine services for evening events. I think one of the unique qualities of this hotel is that it is able to provide five-star accommodations and services while also managing to make the hotel feel like home and guests feel like family. I hope to be able to visit again soon.

Great Stay

They lost our reservation, which had been made online. Judging from some of the other comments, I'd reconfirm an online reservation with a live person. That said, our room was wonderful...on par with the Ritz-Carlton in NYC which we had stayed at two weeks prior. The concierge (David) was the best we have dealt with. Had absolutely no complaints about the room, comfort or service. Stayed later at the Opryland, which simply does not compare from a room, comfort and service level, although in fairness the two hotels appear to be seeking different types of customer.

t even stay

We made reservations for Sept 2005. We were charged for not keeping our reservation for Sept 2004 that we never made! I called to get this straightened out and kept being told someone would call be back. They acted as if they couldn't care less that they had charged $250 to my account for their mistake. Fortunately I have all the documentation to proove the mistake. This is still not resolved. We cancelled the reservation and will tell everyone we know about this service. I certainly do not expect this from a so called 4 star hotel.

t Try Again

from A TripAdvisor Member
Was surprised this hotel is rated 5 star. I didn't feel the service was that of most hotels I typically stay in. Travel often to Nashville for business and decided to try this hotel. Have heard lot's of good things about it. I'm headed back out West End to Loews.

s Sleep for New Mom

I too live in Nashville TN. Just 15 miles away from downtown, but as the mother of infant twins I jumped at the chance to stay at the Hermitage Hotel for a overnight business trip. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful and elegant and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud.
As I was in dire need of a good night's sleep, I ducted out of my meeting early and ordered room service. The meal was honestly one of the best room service meals I have ever had. Delivered promtly and still hot. I even ordered a pitcher of hot cocoa later and it was divine.
The bath tub was truly the highlight of the trip. My room was pretty standard but the bath tub was huge and oversized. The water pressure was perfect and the tub was spotless. I am not a fan of hotel bath tubs regardless of the star count but this one was totally different.
Big white fluffy robe, personal satin slippers delivered at turn down and super thick drapes turned my room into slumber chamber at 5:00 in the afternoon. Easily the best night's sleep I have had in months.
My only complaint is a small one. But the hotel does not have pay per view movies in the room nor does it have HBO or any high end cable channels.
The front desk said they had a few old dvds but I decided to spend the time sleeping and I made the right decision.
Great Hotel and Great nights sleep!

Delightful visit

from A TripAdvisor Member
In our recent visit to Nashville, we chose to stay at the Hermitage Hotel (based in part on Trip Advisor recommendations). We were delighted! We have visited four and five star hotels all over the southeast and the Hermitage Hotel stands out as being among the best! The staff were super...friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The room was excellent and the bed was wonderful. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was outstanding. We would definitely recommend this hotel as the place to stay when visiting Nashville.

Online reservation not enough to secure a room!

from blondechica
I booked the Hermitage on their website and arrived only to find that the hotel was overbooked. And I was a repeat customer! There was another gentleman at the counter facing the same problem. To their credit, they secured me a room at a nearby hotel and gave me a free nights stay (but when will I return to Nashville?). Unfortunately, the other hotel wasn't nearly as nice.

So, unless you can be assured of your reservation, BEWARE! I was so disappointed not to be able to stay at this lovely hotel again. My previous experience had been bliss!

wake up call!

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was our 27th anniversary. We had planned a nice, quiet romantic time together. Our quiet time was loudly destroyed by the 6:00 a.m. wake up call of the construction and jackhammering outside our window. Which by the way did not let up until noon (lunchtime I suppose) and we were ready to leave at that point, though we had planned a late check out. We mentioned what happened at the front desk but the lady did not seem to be too concerned. She seemed to be more concerned with her printer. Of course, we were checking out anyway. She did mention that she would tell the manager?! We pointed out to her that they should let their guest know about this up front when the guest had requested a captial view. Had we known we would have forgone the "construction" view and asked to have a room far away from the noise. We did have a great dinner the night before at the Capital Grille, due all to the awesome waiter, Steve.

Top Local Tips for Nashville

our favorite Nashville restaurants Monell's, Sylvan Park Restaurant (get the chocolate pie), Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House (in Lynchburg TN)

Ryman Auditorium is a must! Not a bad seat in the house. If you have the opportunity to see a concert or show, you should not pass it up. And considering the prices are half of what you would normally pay to see a show at a larger venue, it is even more enticing.
