Waited in the Lobby forever.

from A TripAdvisor Member
On 4-12-2003 my wife and I visited the Opreyland Hotel in Nashville. At 8:30 pm I was given a key to my room. The splendor and brilliance of the hotel looked fabulous from the lobby. But it took 4 hours before I was able to use the room. The staff repeatedly said the room was ready when it was not. I was lied to many times about when I would be able to use the room and the worst part was not being able to see anything at the hotel while I was trapped in the lobby waiting. Even afterwords I got a message from assistant manager (615) 871-7662 to ask what can be done to correct the situation from our stay and when I returned the call to an answering machine my call was never returned.

Ugh! Ruddest Staff Ive ever seen!

I came to Nashville on business. We were told to stay at Opryland resort. We arrived at 3am on a Friday morning after driving all day. We got lost in the parking lot, and FINALLY found reservations, and went in.No one was in sight, finally someone in our party of 4 yelled and she came out. Couldn't find the reservations- but thats find, we are sure there was a mix up (which was,and not their fault). We stated we needed 3 rooms for 4 people for the night (so we could fix the mix up after some sleep). She gave us one room... Finally after quite some time she understood simple English and gave us 3 rooms and a rambled off direction...Couldn't find our way into the parking lot - at 7 bucks a day- and then after we got parked, unloaded, walked ages to get to the proper door we went in.Two of us stayed on the 6th floor. We were not told that they built a suite in the middle of the hallway and couldnt access our rooms with out going down an elevator, switching, and going back up! We wandered around for close to 30 minutes, asked for directions from a staff member who was VERY curt and rude to us,and got to our rooms.THe room was very nice looking, and so was the view of the Garden Conservatory. After we got up the next morning, did some work, we went to Celebrity services to get stuff straigtened out with the rooms. It took over an hour and they told us to move one room, and that the stay was booked thru the following week. That night, the calls started. First there was a voice mail saying call the front desk- we did and explained we were staying thru the week. An hour later- they came knocking at our door to ask us when we were going to leave, then another phone cal- all after 8pm, lasting until after 10pm! Each time waking us up. Never an appology. Finally the last person we talked to seemed to understand.Oh, and also at check in they needed a creidt card, I gave them my debit card- we were not to pay for the rooms, it was just to check in til stuff was straigtened out the next morning.Wd out and that my personal card WILL NOT be charged. The next day doesn't go too bad, had turn down serivce the first time in 3 nights, with yummy Godiva chocolate mints. However we did make the mistake of eating on sight. For 4 hambugars (not even that good) and 2 beers and 9 watered-down drinks the bill was 155 dollars! After the one peaceful night we had, it started again the next night, with the calls. And to top it off they charged my card, no once but FOUR times! (and they said they wouldnt charge it, they had the proper card now, and then when they admitted to charging it, it was only once). After this, we checked out the next morning and went to Comfort Inn accross the street. Sure I dont have the views, but I also do not have to park over a mile from my room due to Prom, the staff are nice and attentive and Its just alot easier. Also If you stay there beware, no matter how many staff memeber s you see, not one will say hi or even a smile, if you take the newspaper left outside your room, its 50 cents, local calls are 1.00 as are 800 number calls, PPV is $10 a movie, the tubs leak water so batheing is out of the question, you'll never find the swimming pools, and room service is 15 bucks for a steak sandwhich plus 20 percent plus 2 dollar delivery fee!GOUGE GOUGE GOUGEId highly suggest staying at one of the MANY hotels in the area, and popping in to see the pretty gardens since its totally open to the public!

Over rated 100%. We had a view of the dumpter, after paying the price you would think that you would have a better view, plus charge you $7.65 for self parking after the room price. I have always heard so much about the Hotel, always wanted to stay, but never again. We didn't mind the price of the room, but the view was terrible & then charge you to park. Next time we will stay across the street.

Not What We Expected

This certainly was not the grand hotel I have heard about. We did not receive the type of rooms we had reserved and the management basically said "too bad" because they were full. The rooms we did get had stained carpet, noisy plumbing, holes in the bedding, etc. On our second day, after a huge convention had checked out, apparently they decided to shut down most of the hotel. Because it was Easter Sunday, I can understand the stores being closed, however after the brunches were over, all restaurants but one shut down for the night (even the food court), the boats were closed, the pools were closed (supposedly due to inclimate weather, but it was a beautiful evening), and even the valet parking in our section of the hotel was closed. The management does not care about any complaints, and in fact they even tried to overcharge us for our stay. We will not stay there again!

Would definately stay again

Didn't know what to expect of a hotel this size but staff were very helpful and it was great fun. Although it was great having a balcony overlooking the waterfalls didn't have enough time to make use of it. Also very noisy at night. Restaurants good. Bedding ageing with wear and holes. For price they need to look at replacing worn items. Wouldn't take small children, personally, as too easy to get lost.Would stay again but would ask for a quieter area as ,although the sound of water can be relaxing, there is just too much of it.Recommended though. Oh holey night!

YUCK -- YUCK --YUCK!!! What can I say -- holes in the sheets, crusty food stained bedspreads, dirty bathroom, hallway smelled like a garbage dump --but wait there's more -- trash from the previous guest littered the room and the carpets were soiled. Calling the front desk for assistance was a waste of time. We gave up and checked out early the next morning.

Never Again!

I belong to a business that has seminars at the Opryland Hotel every year. I stayed at the hotel at the advice of my manager who said "You have to stay there to get the 'full experience'." Oh, I got the full experience all right! I have stayed at Motel 6's with better rooms. After spending an hour checking in and another hour finding our room, we find a room that was moldy and smelly - not to mention small. We ended up changing rooms 3 times, trying to get a room that was at least clean! And for all the complaining we did, we got nothing. No apology, no discount, nothing. We did get the refridgerator we requested ($10, of course), at 2 a.m. They certainly didn't mind taking our $149 (discount price) for our room! The atrium is beautiful and a great place to walk around, but you can do that by staying at a nearby hotel. Save your money, this place isn't worth it!
I will be traveling to Nashville in March - the Opryland Hotel won't be getting my business!

Great Place!

I can't imagine why others are complaining. We stayed at Opryland 3 nights in 9/'01 and had a great time. No problems whatsoever. We're going back in February '03 and looking forward to bringing our son and new daughter-in-law along. Lots of things to do, beautiful lobbies, restaurants, bars, etc. What more do you want? Some people must be more spoiled than we are!
