Overpriced, dated, and lacking amenities

My family and I stayed the Doubletree for a family reunion that was being held at the hotel on a weekend in October of 2004. I was frankly disappointed at our room and the service. The hotel is dated and the amenities were not that nice for the price. The hotel breakfast buffet is limited and over priced. The accomodations were more like a budget hotel than medium level accomodations. I have gotten better accomodations and a free breakfast for less money.

Overbooked and kind of dingy

I made reservations for this hotel 6-9 months in advance as I was attending a conference at the convention center. I called the day before I arrived and extended my stay. When I arrived, tired and worn out, I was told that the hotel was overbooked and furthermore that all hotels were overbooked downtown. They made it sound like some great favor that they were able to buy some rooms at a hotel over 20 miles away- and that my work collegues who were booked at other hotels would not get to stay at their booked rooms if they were coming in later in the pm. THis was not true- they all got in fine excepot me at the Doubletree! I was quite angry, spoke with the manager - while I was complaining a man who had checked in hours earlier came to the desk and said that he got a message on his home voice mail about the overbooking- however he checked in and got a room anyway. I did eventually wind up with a nice limo ride to the other hotel and the driver was kind enough to stop so I could get some take out to eat. I plan on formally complaining about this incident- especially since I called the day before and no one mentioned renovations or overbooking!
I got into the hotel the next night and generally found my room dingy- stained carpet, etc. I thought at least I should have been put into one of the renovated rooms!

Would like to write a review of the rooms, staff and general amenities but unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to spend long enough in the hotel to do so. We arrived at the hotel on 25th October, after 17 hours travelling time, to be told that our booking had been transferred to another hotel. When I queried this the front desk clerk had to call a superior to give an explanation, which was decorating/refurbishment! She said someone should have called us to revise the arrangements. They hadn't and as I made the booking and had it confirmed in June, I was not impressed! She kindly gave us directions to the other hotel (when asked) and eventually offered the use of the hotel's courtesy bus to take us and our luggage there (the least they could do as we had travelled by taxi to the doubletree). As we left they gave us some complimentary cookies (whoopee!) but i'm afraid they did not in any way make up for the inconvenience. It spoilt the start of our holiday. Would think twice before booking here again should I ever return to Nashville.

Great hotel, bad parking price

The Doubletree Hotel in Nashville was clean and comfortable. I was there for a nursing conference in town, and the directions to that location were excellent. The valet parking was convenient, but way overly priced at $14. I will always have a problem with someplace charging me that much to have my car occupy space, then have to tip the person who put it there.
A continental breakfast included in the price would be very nice. Other places can do that at a lower per room cost.
Although the next is not a problem for some, it was for me. I was in town for a nursing conference, and really didn't give a hoot about knowing the current news via CNN, or any other station for that matter. And I HATE sports. Hunting, fishing, football were in abundance, but I was there without kids, my first weekend alone in 15 years, and I wanted Animal Planet and Trading Spaces. These, however, were not even offerred in their 10 channel line-up.
The hotel was great for business and government male suits. Not me.

Great location

Great location for Broadway Honky-tonks. t take your own tea bags for all hotels. My own advice for food lovers is give breakfast a miss in America, get up late and start with brunch and then go on to great evening meals. Loved Nashville and the entertainment-don,t miss The Wildhorse Saloon, Great food at Baileys on Broadway, then hit the bars on Broadway.

Great Hotel

We stayed at the Doubletree in August and despite the disappointing reviews on this site, we were pleasantly surprised. When we checked in we were welcomed and we were given warm cookies (yum!). Please note reception is on the 1st floor. The staff were friendly and the hotel was very clean. The room was better than the picture in the brochure and was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to Broadway and we didn't feel safe walking back at night but apart from that, the hotel and the area was fine.
We really enjoyed our stay here.

This is a very dated hotel. The rooms are disgusting. You probably can get a great deal to stay here and it most certainly is not worth it. I'm not willing to give Paris my money for this one. Take this advice from a Hilton Diamond Member.

Staff was courteous and friendly. No business center except for some sort of "pay" computer which was broken for two days. I could not print a document. If you're not there on business, then you sure picked the wrong vacation spot. Dirty common areas. Bad neighborhood. Add 10 bucks for internet and 14 a day for parking and you're staying at the Hilton. Would not stay there again.

Enjoyable Stay

We stayed at the Doubletree downtown for 9 nights before and during CMA Festival 2004. We found the hotel staff to be very helpful and friendly. The hotel requires some cosmetic updates to the rooms but everything was in working order, the room was clean and the location great!!! We would stay here again.

potentially good hotel, unfortunately poorly managed

The hotel has great location, and could have been
a first class place if the property is better managed.
Their front desk is a little hard to find (you have to walk up the stairs), and when I walked in, no one was behind the desk! I had to wait for a few minutes, and only to receive an curt acknolwegement that "I will be right with you", which I found a little strange. The check-in itself was also quite terse, in that no information was freely diseminated (eg. they have free internet connections in each room, but nothing of the sort was mentioned!). The room itself was fine, large, smelt clean, except for some obviously empty spots, which seemed to suggest that once upon a time, some furniture was there, and now, it is gone. The hotel itself could also be a lot prettier (even though the architecture is splendid as is), if some of the obvious broken items were fixed (eg, broken elevator buttons, crooked looking signs, etc). All in all, this hotel could have been much better if these obviously management issues are fixed.

Top Local Tips for Nashville

Start Early We started early and were able to easily get in everywhere we went. Later in the night the lines get really long.

Train If you are a rail fan you can stay in Lebanon, Hermitage, or Mt Juliet and ride the new Music City Star into downtown Nashville and avoid all of the road construction and rush hour traffic. Schedules and fares can be found at http://www.musiccitystar.org/ .

Demo's Go to Demo's for lunch or dinner. They have italian food and steaks. I had the blackened chicken pasta and it was wonderful! The lasagne was good too, and the steaks are what they specialize in. They make their own marinades and salad dressings. Go early or you will have to wait at least an hour for a table.
