Historical Traveller Reviews of The Peabody Memphis Hotel
A lovely hotel - well worth it
from A TripAdvisor MemberA terrific room... spacious and pleasant... the only downside was a less-then-great view, but given the size and feel of the room, we really didn't care. One or two of the fixtures in the bathroom could have been newer, but really everything was fine. This is an older hotel, but on the whole beautifully maintained... a pleasure just to walk through. The lobby area was also lovely and pleasant just to sit and chat. Everything was well done, and the staff seemed extra friendly and helpful. A good value and a fine location.
Historic Elegance
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur room was spacious, nicely decorated, and included all the amenities of a modern facility, with the charm of something from the past. The Peabody is located near many Memphis attractions and easy to get to by car. We highly recommend this hotel.
ok, but overpriced - $17 to park!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe arrived and parked Valet. I don't recall seeing any signs about valet charges. However, when we checked into the hotel, we immediately had a $17 charge for ONE night of parking.
The king bed was wonderful - I believe they have new mattresses and it was very nice. Probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on in a hotel. The finish was peeling in the bathtub - another review mentioned this. We did have a tub and shower, although the tub was really too small for a bath.
The data port in our room didn't work.
The march of the ducks is nice - the lobby gets very crowded. We didn't eat there, so no comments on food service.
Overall, it was an interesting experience, but was overpriced. Wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again.
Humm very odd...but made the best of it!
from desiree021Our room was much better. In the communal lobby on our level there was continental breakfast and a 5:00 happy hour where you could get a glass of wine and had great refreshments like chocolate covered strawberries, etc. The Phellipe restaurant had a nice setup and the food was okay.
The decor of the lobby was also nice and the ducks were cute. However the hotel struck me to be a little odd because I noticed that majority of the rooms were significantly different from each other.
the peabody is the perfect downtown historical hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberTerrific time at Peabody
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt's starts getting crowded 20 minute or so before the duck's arrival and departure. The gift shops were also quite nice, particularly The Lucky Duck.
Dirty, EXTREMELY OVERATED
from A TripAdvisor Memberdisappointment.
We were checked into THREE different dirty rooms. Each one was worse
than the next. There was hairspray all over mirrors, dirty soapdishes,
rings in toilets and in bathtubs, hair ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE, feces on
the toilet seat, and dust everywhere. We also found money under one of
the beds, which in and of itself isn't bad, but it shows that they
aren't even looking under the beds.
After three rooms we gave up and cleaned the room ourself.
Save yourself the headache and stay somewhere else. The public spaces
(lobby, etc.) are absolutely gorgeous. Stay elsewhere and stop by for a
drink at the lobby bar on the way to Beale Street.
The ducks are cool, but if you want to see them get there early and
stand your ground.
All in all it was an utter disappointment. Sad really, because it could
have been realy nice.
I hope that the GM, Rooms Division Manager and Executive Housekeeper read this. Management must have been asleep at the wheel.
Classy Place to Stay
from A TripAdvisor MemberLocation excellent, Accomodations Way Overated!
from A TripAdvisor MemberIn line with our expectations - Nice
from cbkingeryOur check in was smooth and friendly. The gentleman at the desk was welcoming and answered my questions carefully. Our room was a "superior" king room and was beautiful. It was very clean, large, and nicely decorated. The bathrom was clean and also a good size (for a bathroom). The bathroom had good water pressure and the tempature was kept constant. The toilet flushed with no problem. The dressing area had a table, chair, and full length mirror. The closet was a walk in and had a place for our suitcase. We had breakfast in our room and it was very good. It's amazing how expensive breakfast can be when taxes, gratuity, and other fees get added on. My husband also had a very positive expereince at Gould's Day Spa. When calling for anything, we were treated as first class guests. The march of the ducks at 5 pm was very cute. Find a spot to watch around 4:15; the room around the fountain fills up quickly. The clock bar in the lobby is relaxing but we felt somewhat uncomfortable in our shorts when the majoirty had on dresses and slacks. The view from the roof is great. The gift shops are varied and reasonablly priced.
I feel this hotel meets up to AAA's 4 diamond rating. I also feel that the attitude of the place is that they know it too. I think we would stay at The Peabody again. It's proximity to Beale Street and other downtown attractions was very convenient. I feel the amount we paid for our room was equal to the quality of the room and of the hotel in general. We had a very nice stay.
Top Local Tips for Memphis
Don't miss the Civil Rights Museum I went to memphis not even knowing the Civil Rights Museum was there...then being reminded it is where martin Luther King dies, I thought it would be a little thing...but it spans the entire decades of the 50'2 60'2 and 70's when I was an oblivious (Northern) kid...I really put it all in perspective! Really....go! It is a fun walk down Main Street...lots of funky art galleries...and then spend a whole day at the Museum! I wish I had gotten there earlier...they close about 5 PM.
Take a Cab. Taxi service is reasonable in Memphis and much safer
Hotel is like cheap nightclub Down go to hotel lobby with you kids.
