Hated this hotel

At check in, we found that there was no concierge service, only the check in person at the front desk. We went to our room which was very small - there was no place to even put a second suitcase. There was not enough towels, not enough soap, and not even a laundry bag for dirty clothes. The worst thing was the lighting in the bathroom. A woman cannot see to put on makeup. I called the front desk for a makeup mirrow but they did not have any. The bedside lights were very poor also - terrible for reading. There was no ice machine. Any time you need ice, you have to call and they will bring up a very tiny amount. The literature on this hotel states they have a fridge in every room and also a mini-bar. They had the fridge for the mini-bar, but that was all. We are from N.O. and like to make our own coffee and bring our cream - no place to keep it. We had a very small ice chest but there was no ice. To top it all off, we came back to our room after dinner and Beale St., and we had no air-conditioning. We sweltered all night. We then decided to get another place to stay and found another hotel closer to Beale St. and a lot cheaper and much better. We would never stay there again - it is not worth the price. We have stayed at many 4 star hotels and believe me this is not one of them.

Beautiful boutique hotel-much better than Peabody

The Madison is a classy alternative to the overhyped Peabody. King suites are well appointed with Gilchrist & Soames amenities, Frette bath robes, and a small kitchenette area. Our suite overlooked the Mississippi River. Beds/linens are ultra comfortable. Room was spacious, and very quiet. Most floors have only 8 rooms. Bathroom is large enough to park a car. Room service menu, while not bad by any means, is not anything to get very excited about. OK for a late night snack. Great location, within walking distance to any Beale Street locale. Staff was very accomodating to all our needs. Comparable to the Waldorf Towers in NYC.

Wedding Night Waste of Money

My husband and I spent our wedding night here on March 20, 2004, and stayed in a standard king room. The front desk was friendly in person, but the overall service was bad. First, they had feather pillows on the beds and were unable to offer an alternative. As I cannot sleep on a feather pillow, I was quite uncomfortable. We called the front desk to see if they could provide us a cable for my laptop for internet acess.
They were unable to answer our questions, and did not return our call.
In the morning, we tried to order room service and they did not answer the phone. We placed our order with the front desk and it arrived almost an hour later. Breakfast arrived, not on a cart, but we were handed covered plates. There was no table in our room to eat at. We received only one of our breakfasts, and finally gave up on the other, which arrived as we were leaving. They were prompt to refund us for the missing breakfast. We carried our own luggage downstairs as we had waited over an hour for the bellman to bring a cart. The large bathroom was very comfortable, and the shower was excellent. Overall: this hotel is way overpriced. I have stayed at the Peabody, and was much more comfortable. No matter how busy, their service is always excellent.
Good service makes for a comfortable stay. We were not comfortable at the Madison.

Absolutely Horrible, A third rate Embasy Suites

Put in two different rooms as the fridge in first was broken the second offering had half eaten food in the mini bar. The front desk supervisor suggested we order through him...

This place bills itself as a first class hotel!

I have been attempting to reach the Manager for two days...

I will say the valet men and Kristy at the front desk were polite and as helpful as they could be while surrounded by insolent, unprofessional automatrons.

Did I mention I HATED my stay here?!

What a dump. Don't stay here... I mean it!

Honeymoon night

My husband and I stayed at the Madison Hotel May 18th 2003. That was our wedding day and honeymoon night. We thought the stay was quite pleasant. The room was a nice size and clean. The bedding luxurious.
The bathroom nice size and clean. The view, not a great one. It was pretty much quiet on this night and the staff seemed to be very polite.
We missed breakfast time that following morning (too early) but convinced them to serve us breakfast food anyway. The only complaint we had about our stay was that maid service was a constant interruption.
We had to let them know several times when to come back. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Classy alternative to Peabody

Greeted at door by smartly dressed,pleasant staff.Valet parking inexspensive and quick.Check in quick and painless.I had to change my reservation previously and the desk staff were very pleasant and helpful over the phone.The King room was small but decor was nice.Bed (which took up most of room)was very comfortable with feather duvet and nice pillows.Bathroom was nice size with large shower.Turn down service and free newspaper out side your door was available but over 4 nights they forgot our room about twice.We recieved a free breakfast voucher for every night we stayed.Hotel is within easy walking distance of many restaurants and attractions.Try this hotel as an alternative to the Peabody

A beautiful boutique hotel

We had a wonderful stay at this chic hotel. The interior design is contemporary and beautiful colors have been used throughout. The room amenities were first class and the free high speed internet access was a pleasant surprise. This hotel has the most comfortable beds and the most plush linen and comforters I have ever come across in any other hotel. The staff is well trained and extreemly friendly and professional. We highly recommend this hotel. It compares with some of the finest in the world.

Wonderful time at the Madison

Stayed at the Madison in June. Had initial mixup with reservation but they straightened it out very quickly. Lovely room. I found everybody on staff to be very friendly. Front desk gave us a good recommendation for the piano bar at Pat O'Brien's. Had a wonderful dinner at the Grill Room. I plan on staying here again. Beats the Peabody any day.

Beautiful hotel but some service kinks to work out

I was satisfied overall with my stay at The Madison Hotel and will return again but I do think they have some service issues to resolve.
After a long drive from Georgia (we got lost in Arkansas), my husband and I attempted to check into our room, only to find that there was not a reservation for us. I made my reservation using a link from the Madison Hotel website (I guess I should have used a link from TripAdvisor!) and received an e-mail confirmation but failed to print it prior to my departure. Initially, the front desk clerk gave us the impression she did not believe we had made the reservation when they couldnt pull the reservation up in their computer. After we convinced her to let us use a computer with internet access to print the confirmation, she was puzzled how the glitch could have occurred. We grew very weary as we waited to be checked into a room while she tried to research the error (and yes, there were plenty of rooms were available). Only after we expressed our frustration with the situation and the wait, the clerk checked us into our room. The rooms were very contemporary and clean. The design of the sitting area in our room was a little awkward. The couch was placed at an angle so that the TV could be viewed but in doing so, it cut into the space of the room and made the couch look out of place. The deluxe rooms did not have a bathtub but had an open shower, which I liked. The lobby and the roof top garden were my favorite parts of the hotel. The roof top garden had spectacular views of the city and Mississippi River. The gym in the basement was more than adequate. Even though it was a little dark, the room was interesting because it used to be a bank vault. I was surprised to learn the hotel had a small lap pool in the basement as well. So small, it would only accommodate one swimmer at a time. Our room came with a continental breakfast, which included a beverage and a bread item. The good news is the hotel gave you an $8 credit per person towards breakfast if you did not care to redeem the continental breakfast. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Grill 83, was very good and so was the service. We also had very good service from the valets as well. Most of my unsatisfactory service issues were with the front desk. The politeness seemed forced from all I encountered during my stay and they were not friendly. The hotel is so beautiful; I choose to look past this uncomfortableness. Its a shame because it takes away from what would be an above average to excellent rating.

These guys have written the book on service We had a fabulous stay at this intimate hotel. Service is at 4 to 5 star hotel levels. Decor is unlike any other in area. Location is great and within walking distance to most downtown attractions.

Top Local Tips for Memphis

The best food in Memphis Felicia-Suzanne's for dinner - try to get a table in the kitchen. Southern food at its finest. Head to the Arcade in the morning for the best breakfast in Memphis. Next night try the Memphis Pizza Cafe for the best pizza in Memphis.

Sun Studios Just as great as Graceland, in a very different way. A mini tour bus can take you from one to the other. We didn't know that and rented a car. Not necessary, especially with the trolley service in town.

Rendezvous! The Tennessee legislature needs to pass a law mandating that all visitors to Memphis eat at Rendezvous. Of course, it seems like the entire city is waitign with you in the downstairs bar, but it is worth the wait. You MUST get these ribs when in Memphis
