I stayed here on 7/24/04 and I had several items stolen from my room while I was out for the evening. The staff was not helpful and didn't handle the situation well. The rooms were overpriced and the security needs work.

Clean and comfortable

Not too pretty from the outside, but the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast (served in the reception area) was filling, and there was a good selection, but it was not always easy for everyone to find somewhere to sit and enjoy it. Being English I enjoy a nice cup of tea, but got fed up with carting a cuppa up in the lift (from reception where it's available all the time) if I wanted to drink it in our room! Would have liked tea making facilities in the room, especially as I don't drink coffee.

We liked the free internet access in reception too, which allowed us to keep in touch with home and check up on the kids! The hotel is close enough to downtown to walk, or if we didn't fancy walking, the trolley stopped on the block behind the hotel. My husband's only complaint was that the hotel didn't have a bar, but we didn't really spend enough time at the hotel (too busy out and about) for this to be a major problem! Would stay here again if I ever get the chance to return to Memphis.

A great town to visit and not a bad hotel to stay

I just wanted to say, that I had an aces time at the hotel this summer. Clean, tidy and it felt fairly safe. It's not the Ritz (but it's not the pitts either), you get what you pay for. Try and get a river view room if you can, waking up with to sunrise above the Mississipi river is about as good as life gets.

One little bit of advice, it's a nice 10 minute walk to downtown, or a very quick 5 minute trolley ride. But at night if you walk back to the hotel, stick to the main well lit drag. That's just travellers commonsense any way.

I had the best week checking out Beale St, so much to do. Take the free Sun Studio shuttle bus that picks up from downtown and drops you at all the main musical museum. And DO take in Stax, Rock 'n Soul and Sun Studio music museum, they'll blow you away. I'm heading back to Memphis in two years time, this is the kind of place that's well worth a second visit.

Good hotel to stay in

Spent 4 nights @ this hotel . Had a great room on the 11th floor . Very spacious & clean , with a view of the Pyramid , & the water fountains . The continental breakfast was filling & the dining area was kept very clean . The trolley bus was close by , took just about 5 minutes to ride to Beale Street . Beale Street its self was quite an amazing place . This was our first trip to Memphis , loved it ! We hope to visit again someday & would choose to stay @ the Comfort Inn again.

Just back from a week in Memphis, the Comfort Inn was excellant, the staff could not be more helpful, the room was big and even had free broadband internet, so bring your laptop. A river view is a must, you can see for miles from your room. Mud island and the Pyramid are just across the road, and the trolley is just around the corner. But in truth the hotel is so central you could walk to everything.
Memphis itself is also just amazing, the people are so friendly and we felt totally safe as we walked around both day and night, Beale street, Graceland and Sun records are great but there is a lot more to this city than just music, great museums, zoo and baseball park and of course excellant food all made it one fantastic vacation for us. The friendliness of the locals really made us feel at home. On the downside we found it to be expensive in the shops with most items double the price we would pay in Europe. Go to Memphis and stay in the Comfort inn and you will have a wonderful vacation.

Pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious and clean. Staff was very helpful. Close to trolley and Beale Street. The pool was in good condition and great to sit around. Our room had a great view of the river. Breakfast was included and had pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt and sausage gravy over biscuits. Excellent! Great deal for $90 a nite.

Do not stay here! Absolutly terrible! I had 2 bags of clothes and a camera bag stolen from my locked room, and my boyfriend had his backpack stolen as well! My clothes and 2 bags were found thrown in some stairwell and everything had been gone through. They emptied out my boyfriends bag and took it and my camera bag full of expensive equipment that would not fit in the safe that they failed to have left open for my use anyway. The hotel did not seem to care and the police arrived 4 hours later.

The hotel was slightly tired looking for the rate they're charging which was disappointing, but was clean and had very friendly Front Desk staff. The location was quite good for Beale Street, but if you're walking there make sure you take the next block down and walk parallel to Main Street as where the Hotel is located, it's not so nice. Make sure you ask for a River view from your room. Take time to visit the King's Palace Cafe on Beale Street for your evening meal and also Isaac Hayes' restaurant in Peabody Place for lunch (if you're not in a hurry!).

I travel to Memphis at least once a year, and this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are big and clean, and it is in a great location. Beale Street and Mudd Island are within walking distance, and there are trolleys available nearby to take elsewhere. The room I had, had a beautiful view of the Mississippi river and Mudd Island. And the price is reasonalbe. Would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel should be a 5-star hotel. The room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. It is so close to Beale Street and the downtown area. The continental breakfast was fabulous. They didn't just have pastries in cellofane, they actually had waffles and eggs and biscuits and gravy. Will definitely always stay at this hotel when in Memphis, and will definitely check out all other Comfort Inns around the country. Would highly recommend this hotel. Wonderful, comfortable place to stay!

A friend and I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Memphis - walking distance from Beale Street and just love it. The rooms were clean and everyone was so nice and helpful. I'm planning on returning this month and I'm praying I can stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Memphis

Hollywood Raiford's Disco If you're looking for a 'different' scene on a Friday night, check out Hollywood Raiford's Disco. We went and had a total blast. Make SURE to take earplugs because the music is deafeningly loud, but the staff and people are a blast. Only beer in 40s is served, but you can bring your own liquor if you want (there is an additional charge in addition to the $10 cover at the door). Two blocks off Beale Street.

Gibson Factory Tour When to go: If you go Monday - Friday before 2:00PM you will be able to see the workers (luthiers) working at their craft. However, inside the factory, it is very noisy and I was able to hear (and I was right in front of him) only about 33 percent of what the tour guide said. On weekend tours, you can hear everything the tour guide says (as you pass by the various work areas of the factory) but you will not see them actually doing the work. Each time has its pros and cons. Just remember, while the workers are there (they leave around 2:30PM) it is VERY noisy.

Panhandlers in Memphis Downtown Memphis has plenty of panhandlers. It is really best to do as the DOZENS OF SIGNS put up by the Memphis City Council tell you to do--donate to a local shelter or soup kitchen and do not give money to the panhandlers. They are "worse" after dark in a square block surrounding Beale Street. They all seemed harmless to me, that is just wanting money with no intent of hurting anyone. If you choose to give to one of them, then if the others see you they will all be asking for theirs (this is what I got for my generosity.)
