My husband and I just spent three days and two nights at the Park Vista Hotel. The lobby and staff were very pleasant. The disappointments and shock started after check in. On the way up the glass elevator(which has carpet on the wall), the interior balcony on each floor was soiled with dust bunnies and dirt. As we entered our room, though clean it could not have been updated in the last 20 years. The room had a musty smell upon entering and the carpet needed to be removed. The best part of the room was the gorgeous balcony view. I have read many reviews of hotels, but take this advice stay at your own risk(health). We stayed out of the room until we were so tired we could drop. I will not stay here again unless it is totally renovated.

Had a great stay here. Staff was very accomodating to our needs. Our room was clean and big enough for our whole family. Loved the Tram service to and from Gatlinberg.

Do not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!! The desk clerk was rude. He falsely accused my son of something while my son (a minor) was standing there. I could not contact the general manager or anyone else about this incident. My family is appalled. This has never happened to us before and I cannot believe this type of rudeness is tolerated. We do not recommend this hotel to anyone... especially if you have children. It ruined our weekend and upset my family.

Great place to spend a relaxing vacation

from roly1785
My family and I were very pleased with the Park Visa. This was our first time to stay in Gatlinburg and we will return. The hotel was very clean and cozy. Our room had a fantasic view and the staff was very friendly. Our only complant is that steep hill going up to the place. That thing was treterous! And the parking could have been a little better. There were even cars parked in the fire lane! There is a trolly that comes up and goes into town which is great. If you have small kids, though, it is away from everything, which means you'd have to drve into town or take the trolly. But those were just petty things and the things that mattered to us, like quality, cleanleness, and service were great! I would highly recommend the Park Vista.

Nice hotel, but not a resort

from A TripAdvisor Member
The view was amazing. We had a great view from the top floor. We literally touched a cloud. We were later than we expected and called ahead to tell them to save our reservation for us. However, when my fiancee and I arrived at the hotel, we had been driving all day (people who travel all day do not look their best). The desk clerk ignored us, we waited for service until the manager came to ask us why we were waiting. When we told him she had purposely overlooked us, he was very kind. However, by the time it was finally our turn, the only room they had available was the livingroom of a suite. Exhausted, we took one night in some else's cast off at a slight discount. The room was okay. We slept on a pull-out couch, but we had a nice dinning room table to enjoy a candle lit dinner, and an awesome view. The pool was beautiful, but the hot tub was extremely small. Room service left something to be desired, but breakfast in the restaraunt was great. The lobby was nice, and the glass elevators were fun. It was nice, but not what I am used to in a resort.

Very Nice Hotel

We had a nice stay at the Park Vista hotel. We were only staying in Gatlinburg 1 night on the way to Charleston but it was perfect for us.
I am pretty particular about the hotels I stay at. Our room was very clean...I didn't smell any smoke like some other reviewers said. We were also very happy that the trolly came by the hotel so you don't have to worry about finding a place to park along the strip in gatlinburg. Of all the hotels we passed during our stay in Gatlinburg I think the Park Vista looked the nicest.

A couple small complaints were that we had a hard time finding the hotel when we got there and the balcony is very narrow and there are no chairs to sit on the balcony.

The condition of the hotel is surprising.

My son and I, along with as two of our friends, (one adult, and one child) stayed at Park Vista in August 2003. First, let me say that we did enjoy our stay and we would stay there again. However, I was quite surprised at the condition of the hotel. While riding on the glass elevators, you can see that the walls are very dirty, and dusty, and the plaster is cracked in many places. I specifically asked for a room on the upper floors with a view of the mountains. I think if you don't ask, you get whatever is left. We thought we were supposed to get a "free" continental breakfast, because it was advertised in the AAA tour book. However, we did not make our reservations through AAA so it was non applicable to us. Once I went to the desk and received an explaination about the mix-up, we were ok. However, My friend and I did not like the restaurant managers snippy response to our question about the free breakfast when he said "there is nothing free in this hotel." Because I visit Gatlinburg for the mountains, I did not let the manager's attitude, or the fact that the hotel needs remodeling, to interfere with my vacation. I was just surprised that the management of the hotel is allowing it to go downhill so badly. They should sell it to someone who will keep the place up.

P.S. I agree with the person that said that the pool is too humid and smells too strongly of chlorine. The work-a-round there is to just stay in the pool!

Perhaps I have become a hotel snob, but this property was not up to my expectations. There definitely is a view from every room; however ours was overlooking the 'industrial area' of the hotel. Our king room was quite spacious albeit decorated in a 70's type porn theme. The worst about the room was the smell. We made it clear a NS room was essential as we had a 2 month old. After moving twice from "non-smoking" rooms, we settled in a room that still reeked of smoke to the extent that our clothes held the odor until washing. Also charged an astronomical phone bill after being assured we would not be. The good part: outside of the constant flow; wilderness setting; desk staff that allowed use of their breakroom so we could sterilize bottles; housekeeping sent back an item left behind. Depends on what you're willing to settle for.

An ora to grab you

We had a delightful time during our stay at the park vista. The balcony had a breathtaking view of the mountains and town, and the hotel had a certain gentle ora. We were very pleased and will stay here again on our next visit.

We wandered into Gatlinburg on a Saturday during spring break and had no luck finding a room. We saw the Park Vista, crossed our fingers, and ended up with the best night of the trip. The room had an awesome view, room service was great, and the pool was an incredible 11 feet deep, which my daughter totally dug. We got to watch the Bucks playoff game in the lounge where everyone was friendly....I didn't want to leave.
I'd go back to Gatlinburg for the sole purpose of staying at this hotel again.

Park Vista Hotel

from kp51
We stayed with Park Vista 4 years ago--twice, and each time has been a most pleasant experience! So, when my mother in law mentioned that they would like to spend a night in the Smokies; I made a reservation with Park Vista; cause I wanted them to get the same experience that we got when we first walked thru the doors of the hotel. When you walk thru the doors the lounge is on the left, and that's where you'll see a black ebony baby grand sitting on the corner. And just ahead is the lobby (which is decorated very elaborately with sofas, chairs and tables, flowers and trees). Look to the left, and you'll see a glass enclosed elevator that will take you up to the 15th floor. And the front desk is on the right, and Eleanor's Resturant on the far left of the lobby. I highly reccomend anyone to go and eat there--at least once, cause you'll want to go back again--because the food is wonderful, plus the service is tops! You don't have to be a paying guest to eat there, so instead of going to your usual eating place--try Eleanor's out at least one time!!! Their rooms are really nice, with a wonderful view of the Smoky Mountains from your balcony. Take the elevator to the ground level, and you'll find two indoor pools, plus a kiddie pool, jicuzzi/or whirl pool; plus a game room, and exercise room. Also, Park Vista has a Conference Room for Conventions, Wedding Receptions, and more. So, if you want to stay in a nice, classy place--choose this hotel over The Grand Hotel & Convention Center in Pigeon Forge. I've stayed in both, and believe me, Park Vista is the best choice over the two! The staff and management is very nice, and they try to do anything to make your stay better! And if you're on a budget, then go to McDonald's or the Welcome Centers and pick up a Tennessee Traveler Coupon Book--and save some money! And this fall, when you stay there--you can sit on the balcony and look out at the fall folliage! What more can you ask for? All you need to do is pack your bags and car, and take a trip to the Smoky Mtns., and check into the Park Vista Hotel--and get ready to have a great time and vacation!

Great time

Our Family had great time in the Smokies. Park Vista was every thing and more we expected. Beautiful Views of mountains. Nice pool area.
Above average resteraunt. If you are going to The Great Smoky Mountians Park Vista is the place to stay.

Great Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family stayed at this hotel while in gatlinburg in February. I was very impressed with our room and the spectacular view. We stayed on the city side. The pool area was great for both my 3 year old and 11 year old since it offers a kiddie pool, besides two others. They also enjoyed the game room and my youngest loved the little playroom. The glass elevators are a nice touch also, the kids really got a kick out of them. I would definitely stay here again, in fact we just reserved a room in October.

Top Local Tips for Gatlinburg

Cade's Cove Be sure to visit Cade's Cove while in Gatlinburg. It is a beautiful 11 mile one way loop through the mountains located about 30 minutes outside of Gatlinburg. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the day here. There are many paths to be hiked, waterfalls, and historic sites to tour. A visitor center just outside the loop offers maps, guides, etc... You can even visit the nearby stables to travel on horseback or take a carriage ride or hayride. We saw several deer and a bear. The drive is beaufiful.

Trolleys The trolleys cost a nominal $.50 per trip but the trolley drivers do NOT have change....Bring alot of quarters and you'll do great. They have a change machine in the bar for the trolley.

Dry county warning Sevier County is a dry county.
