The hotel was clean, rooms were up-to-date. Staff was pleasant. The restaurant has a great breakfast buffet with a great price ($5 per person).

Glad I Stayed

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Glenstone Lodge and enjoyed every moment. I realize from some of the comments submitted, there has obviously been some changes, regouping, new management? All I know is, I found Glenstone Lodge to be very clean, very accomendating with some of the best food I have ever eaten. Toss in some friendly smiles and I felt our stay was one of the best!!!

Living close to the Smoky Mountains we have the opportunity to stay in Gatlinburg many times each year.Most of the newer hotels are national chains-- small, cookie cutter rooms, pools, etc. The Glenstone has larger rooms and two fantastic pools-- with an outside pavilion along a stream. Cleanliness is good, breakfast buffet is great.. I've also noted improvements in service and amenities over the past year.

I read the reviews on Glenstone Lodge before my trip to Gatlinburg in March 2004, but had to stay there anyway for a business meeting. I dreaded going and was right to be hesitant. The door to the motel room would not open even after maintenance repaired the lock. I regret not demanding another room. Did the hair dryer work ? Of course not - glad I brought my own. I also had to check out an iron at the front desk because there aren't any in the rooms. The smell in the hallways is terrible. The staff are young and inexperienced. The motel is a long hike up a steep hill from the main strip. I won't ever stay at Glenstone again. With so many nice hotels available in Gatlinburg, I don't see how Glenstone stays in business.

Cons outweigh the Benefits

Stayed 3 nights at the Glenstone Lodge in March, 2004. The "benefits" are they have an indoor pool, elevator, interior corridors and are centrally located. But the negatives outweigh this when you pay $80 plus a night.

The A/C rarely came on at night. The room never got hot, but it didn't get cold either. The shower ran from ice-cold to very-hot. The shower faucet was tricky so it was difficult to get the temperature to remain constant. And it would turn ice-cold in an instant.

The TV had to be replaced the first night, and there wasn't much of a selection of channels. No channels for young children - like Disney or Nickelodeon.

I recently stayed at the Glenstone lodge and was very disappointed.
While there we had not hot water for a shower one morning. The bathrooms were so small that when you walked in you hit the toilet. The glass elevator took forever. The indoor pool caused some rooms to have sweat on them and fogged all windows in that area.Staff was some what nice, But the gentleman who walked the floors at nite accused several people of things they had not done. No contiental breakfast. One rooms toilet did not work,electricity went out once or twice

Glenstone Lodge what a great experience

We stayed at the glenstone lodge in July of 2003 for seven nights. It was fantastic. We had a two bedroom suite, with micro, wet bar and refrigerator. I have a family of 5, so my girls shared one bedroom, and my son slept in the second double bed in our room. We had two balconeys, and two baths. The price was great. The hotel was clean, and my children loved the wonderful indoor pool, with all of the stone waterfalls, and hot tub. The outdoor pool was clean and very warm.
There are also laundry vacilities in the hotel. We were within walking distance to downtown, and also many of the attrations. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Deb from Dayton Debbie from Dayton

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR NICE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

Stayed at the Glenstone January 2-5, 2004 for aNational Cheerleader Competition in Gatlinburg.Hotel lobby and heated pool was nice, but that wasit. The room was ok, but had a small bathroom. The main thing wrong with this hotel is cheap management. I think their afraid someone's going to steal something, so they don't provide even the necessities. There were no wash cloths or toilet paper/kleenex in the room. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee or coffee cups in the room. We had to go to the lobby desk to get everything. We couldn't even use the phone in the room. We found out later that the hotel had all phones on restriction. When we went to check out, there were daily charges for just having a phone in the room. We had them take these charges off our bill. We requested extra pillows, because pillows were so FLAT. We never received them. No hairdryer or iron in the room, either. Requested hairdryer, but never got it. Carpet in all hall areas was extremely dirty. There was also no place to eat in the hotel, after lunch. They served breakfast only. We had to leave the hotel to eat anything else. Next time I go back to Gatlingburg, I'll stay somewhere else.This hotel was not cheap per night. I believe you can get more for your money somewhere else. If your looking for a nice place to stay, go elsewhere.

You would think booking a room 4 months in advance would insure you a room, think again. We were telephoned the morning we were leaving and informed that the room we had booked had water damage and we were being moved to another motel across the street. We were assured that our rooms were as nice as the rooms we had requested, that was bull. We had a room that the air-conditioner did not work, the window would not lock, lightbulbs were missing and it had no ammenties which was the main reason we booked the Glenstones. Once there we also learned that they did not have water damaged but overbooked. We asked to see the rooms that were damaged and were told they weren't allowed to show us.
They never even offered to compensate us for any inconvenience or say they were sorry or anything. I will never make reservations with them again or recommend them to anyone.

An Unimpressive Experience

Now, I'm a fairly easy-going individual, one who infrequently voices complaints, but I felt it important to share this particular experience. There are certain aspects to a hotel stay that one anticipates- such as, let's say, wash cloths and hand towels. None of these were provided by the hotel unless specifically requested, and hairdryers could only be provided "if available" suggesting there were only a few appliances to be shared among five different floors of rooms. The bathroom was remarkably small and ill-designed. I had to shut the door just to get into the shower. The tub did not drain properly, leaving me calf-deep in shower water, and a fan to minimize heat or moisture did not exist. Also, the room was serviced by an antiquated heating and cooling unit that blew hot air directly onto the bed, making for uncomfortable sleeping- but turning the unit off led to a plummet in room temperature. The restaurant was only open until 2 p.m., which is highly inconvenient if you are a weary traveler who would just like some simple room service. The breakfast buffet was as unimpressive as they come. Although the main dishes (such as sausage links and biscuits with gravy) were palatable enough, the fruit was pitiful and small, with dry, misshapen strawberries and browning grapes. The restaurant staff are also highly notable, a pair of which exchanging swear words (as if they were going out of style) well within earshot of those dining. They were not reprimanded and took no shame in their use of language around paying customers, which I found terribly unprofessional. Overall, I would recommend that anyone contemplating a stay at the Glenstone Lodge would find their money better spent at the another establishment.

My Thanksgiving Stay At Glenstone Lodge

We stayed at the Glenstone Lodge for Thanksgiving week. It so happened that there were many more quest with the same Idea. When you enter there is a very nice lobby. There is a glass elevator which made me feel like I had really arrived. However, I had lots of luggage and had to get a luggae carrier myself and load up every thing on it while I waited for my husband to find a place to park. We had to bring in our own luggage. The room had a nice large bed. My daughter slep on the sofa bed and the sofa bed mattress was worn out. I asked to use an iron the 3 days I was there and never once got to use it. I was told I was on the list. The list had to be very long! So carry your own iron, and toliet tissue unless you don't mind using rough tissue. It is a bare necessity hotel! It does have a great pool inside! Also a nice place eo eat. So, if you are not looking for any frills, this is the place to go!

how you want to stay If you want to be close to downtown Gatlinburg, you need to stay in a hotel downtown that way you have walking access to all shops and restaurants, etc.. If you want privacy then you should rent a house/chalet/cabin in the mountains. We have done both and we prefer being close to the attractions so the hotels are our preferred choice. However, the chalets our wonderful for honeymooners or anyone who wants rest, relaxation, and romance. It is a long drive down from the mountain and then you have to find a place to park and of course pay a parking fee that is at least $5 which is kind of a pain if you want to go into town a couple of times a day. This is my suggestion you just have to know what you want out of your trip. Gatlinburg is a very beautiful place to stay either route that you take.
