Never again

No rest for the weary travler here. Pool, inside, never quite, noisy even after 11 PM. Long walk to downtown shops,trolley is available.
Unable,impossible, to close drapes to block bright lights and noise from pool. Sad building.

Teenage Kids Had A Ball!!

I booked the room online for $55.00 night and then read the reviews posted here. I was worried to death! But, I learned that I was worrying for no reason when we arrived. The staff were very friendly, the room was very clean, it smelled great. My kids are 17 and 13 and very picky.
They loved the indoor heated pool and hot tub, and the game room. They stayed in the game room every night until it closed at 1100 which gave my husband and I a little break alone. It was a decent walk to the main strip, but it only cost $4 a day to park the car closer, no problem!!
We had a wonderful vacation, Will stay there again!!!!!

Holiday Inn Sunspree, mediocre at best.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our 25th anniversary. The room
was so small you could hardly turn around in it. The room also was at
the end of a corridor that let thru doors to a balcony. The cleaning
people congregated ther 1st thing in the morning. The chatter was very
annoying. The room was also very hot no matter if we had the air on or
not as it was vented to the closed corridor.
We also a at the resturant on the premise. The food was not even completely cooked. When I complained to the acting manager, she said they had three weddings that day and had to have a cleaning person do the cooking for the resturant. You would think if they knew they had that much going on they would have prepared for it. We stayed there the week of Memorial day in May 2003.

I knew that a lot (most) of the hotels in Gatlinburg are old so I asked before I made the reservation if the hotel had been renovated and the answer was there was a multi-million dollar reservation last year. The bathroom in our room was not much better than a slum. There were large holes in the wall were a towell bar had previously been. there was a huge hole behind the shower control and the cover kept moving away from it. The grout was filthy (almost black on cream color tile). When I made the reservation the woman also gave me confidence by saying the hotel has to be kept up to Holiday Inn Standards -....a very very low standard it appears. No more Holiday Inn for me.

Total Dump: DO NOT STAY HERE!

I have stayed at Holiday Inn Sunspree resorts in Asheville and a couple of other places. Usually you get something no frills but at least they are clean and relatively nice.

NOT THIS TIME.

I stayed at the Gatlinburg Sunspree from October 2 through October 5 2003, and believe me, I do not exagerate.

This hotel smelled horrible. This hotel is old. The rooms are moldy and very old. The service is bad. We switched rooms during a three night stay because of elavator noise and the stench. The new room was just as bad. Its not just that the rooms are moldy and stink, you cannot even crack the windows. They are all bolted.

You are greeted with a frown from the moment you walk in and a 'we dont really need you here' attitude. I think its a situation where all they deal with is complaints and there is nothing they can do about it so they dont really care anymore. The place is a dump and complaining will not change that. I saw the manager on duty every time I went to the desk(about 4 times) and each time I was up there he was dealing with very unhappy customers who were almost yelling at him.

This place should be 15 bucks a night. Holiday Inn should be embarrased by this "resort". DO NOT STAY HERE.

I agree with all the previous reviews. This place is dumpy. The staff are not friendly. We had to change rooms cause the tub backed up. Our stay was a couple of years ago and I wish I had read about this dump on TripAdvisor before I went. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!

Don't waste your time. There was mold growing on the bathroom ceiling and the carpet stayed moist all week. The hotel is in much need of updates and repairs. The rooms do not have sprinkler systems. Much nicer places around town for the same money. Look else where!!

We have always enjoyed Gatlinburg, going a few times a year. Saw a discount for the Holiday Inn in our Entertainment book. Needless to say, we got what we paid for. Everything you have read about how nasty these rooms are is 100% TRUE. When we made the reservations, we weren't told that the hotel allows animals in the rooms. Now, I love dogs and cats like anyone else, but some patrons had 3-4 animals in a room. It sounded like a kennel! The first room we were given smelled like cat urine. I call the desk and about 45 mins later a maid came with a spray bottle of "freshener". She actually laughed when I said "does all these rooms smell like this". She gave us the bottle and left us to battle the smell. I used 1/2 of the bottle, but whatever type of meow mix that cat had for dinner must of been bad! I went to the front desk and asked for another room. The staff was ok, but the new room wasn't much better, as it smelled like a musty dog. We had brought the bottle from the other room and used it the rest of the weekend to fend off the odors.

Do yourself and your family a favor, find somewhere else to stay unless you like the feeling and smell of a kennel.

Worse Vacation Ever

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Gatlinburg before and the trips have been pleasant, but not this time. It was the worse vacation that my family has ever been on. My husband has a work conference that he had to attend and it was being held at this resort.
We called twice and even drove down two weeks prior the conference requesting that we stay in the holidome and not the terrace section, due to animals staying in those rooms. We don't have problems with animals but if they are not ours and we don't know them I don't want to stay in a room where they have been. Needless to say when we arrived we were put in the terrace section. Both my husband and myself were not happy with this, and ask to see a manager. The manager was very nice and understood and moved us to a room in the holidome section. That night everytime that we stepped foot in the bathroom, the floor was wet, come to find out the next morning the room behind us had a water leak in the wall. We had to move down the hall, and upon entering the room a terrible smell would knock you down. Needless to say that the floor in this room was also wet. Maintenance was called no water leak, must have been something that the maid cleaned with and dropped it on the floor. Later that night I had my husband to lift up the beds to see if dead bodies were under them. Housekeeping was called, the maid said it smelled like a dirty diaper, and sprayed airfreshner in the vent. We went to the front desk and requested to move rooms due to the smell, but no rooms were available. I later went back to the room and found out upon smelling, that it was a pet friendly room and a dog had used the carpet, so I got a washcloth and soap and tried to clean it the best I could. The next morning the manager said how sorry she was and moved us to another room. This room was better than the other two. The manager sent us some soft drinks to try to make up for the problems that we were having. The next morning my husband went down to the lobby to give the clerks his tax exempt form. The clerk advised us that we were to check out that day, when really our reservations went through that night and we were to check out the following morning. My husband called me from the lobby and told me to start packing. The hotel knocked off one nights stay and dropped the rate which is fine, but we didn't have to pay for this as my husbands employer took care of the bill. My husband did not have to take vacation time for this as it was required that he attend this conference, but as for me, I had to take a week off from work, this is my only family vacation to spend with my children before they start back to school. I will have to say, it was the worse vacation that I have ever had, to the point of tears, even when I had to clean up the dogs urine. The hotel needs updating very badly, and they need to make one building for people to bring animals.
My family will not stay there anymore, and neither will our friends.

I have been to Gatlinburg many, many times since I was a kid,and for some reason have always wanted to try the Holiday Inn there.We stayed there back in May,and I was very disappointed.The parking was horrible,several times after going out,we would return to find no parking spaces open near our room.There was no elevator in the building we stayed in.The room was ok,but it had a funky odor to it,and the bathroom was no bigger than a broom closet.As far as the personnel,the front desk people were nice,but the ones in the store in the lobby were very rude and unfriendly.The hotel as a whole,just had a scummy appearance outside,looks rundown.Avoid this dog at all costs.

Top Local Tips for Gatlinburg

Don't waste your time buying crap you don't need! Go to the mountains. Go backpacking. Get some exercise and fresh air. Go see the real mountains, not some tawdry tourist trap.

Gatlinburg Gatlinburg is a very busy place. Would not recommend to a family with small children, there just isn't a lot to do for families. I would however recommend driving up on the Smoky Mountains to Cade's Cove, a scenic loop drive with bears and deer and other wildlife. Pigeon Forge is also more family oriented.

staying out of Pigeon Forge traffic The staff taught us how to bypass Pigeon Forge and Gatlingburg traffic when we go on day trips.
