Enjoyed the Bearskin

Having seen reviews, and after visiting the Bearskins website, this looked to me like a good place to stay. Upon our arrival, we we're not disappointed. The Bearskin Lodge was even better than I had expected. Parking was easy, the rooms we're very clean, the staff was friendly, and our kids loved the pool. I much enjoyed the balcony view overlooking the river. Buying our Ripley's Aquarium tickets at their front desk even saved us money, and a wait in line. Our stay at the Bearskin
Lodge was a home run!

We had based our stay at Bearskin on previous reviews and we were not disappointed at all. Finding the location along the River Road is simple. It is off the main drag and so is more peaceful and vehicular travel is easier. However, close enough to get to anything you want. Great restaurants nearby included Peddler, Bennet's Barbecue Pit, and Texas Roadhouse. Ample parking both outdoor and indoor. My kids loved the pool and lazy river alot!! The staff was very friendly and always strived to be helpful down to the cleaning ladies. The rooms were kept very clean.Check-in and out were a breeze. The only drawback is being somewhat removed from the center of Gatlinburg but the Trolley service eases that problem and in return you achieve much greater peace. Balconies over the river are recommended. We had a suite with jacuzzi and two tvs, which was great for our kids. I can, based on my own experiences, highly recommend staying at the Bearskin Lodge.

After reading some of the reviews on the hotels in the Gatlingurg area, I got alittle nervous. My husband had already made reservations at the Bearskin Lodge before I had read them, so I was alittle leery of what to expect when when we got there.

From the moment we first stepped into the lobby until the day that we left, we were treated very well. The staff was pleasant and friendly, the rooms were always kept spotless. The beds comfortable, the drapes were room darkening to keep out the early morning sunlight.

As we were there, we noticed that they have been replacing carpeting in some part of the hotel, so if they had any problems, they are already working on it.

We would highly reccommend this hotel to our business assiociates and friends.

How disappointing - after reading all the reviews on this website we stayed at the Bearskin Lodge and couldn't wait to arrive. Once we go there, we couldn't wait to check-out. Once you check in you must become invisible to the staff - they never acknowledged us or anyone else that we saw. Not even a smile or a nod. The carpet in our room was ripply and loose. The vanity was not to be found (unless you consider a few inches a vanity). The air conditioner was LOUD. The mattress was not a mattress but thick foam. The lamp shades are cute with the bears on them - just don't expect any light to come through them. The shower head was so bad that rinsing shampoo from your hair was nearly impoissible. We won't be staying here again and if we had not pre-paid, we would have checked-out after one night.

Quieter, but off the main road

We recently stayed here and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. The Bearskin is on River Road - about a block away from the main road in Gatlinburg. Trolley service was nonexistent while we were there, so walking was the only option for sightseeing. Rooms were large with unique furniture and very nice jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace. Balconies were very small and overlooked a pretty small creek. Small, but fun, outdoor heated pool. We had requested two king rooms next to each other and were not told at the time of booking that this was not possible due to the hotel layout. We settled for one king room and one with 2 queens next to each other. The Peddler restaurant next door had good steaks (pricey) but nothing else special.

My family and I went on vacation and stayed at the Bearskin Lodge. It is great for anyone who wants to shop since it is within walking distance of everything. The rooms are clean the staff is friendly so what more could you look for. I really recommend staying at the Bearskin Lodge.

Very nice with Smoky Mountain theme

I have stayed here 3 times. Very nice hotel. It's furnished with a Smoky Mountain theme. Very nice for out of towners. I was a bit more disappointed the last time I stayed. Still very clean, but some loose floor tiles and such made me wonder if they were keeping it up. It is on the far end of Gatlinburg, but still a nice walk to anywhere you want to go.

Need more places like the Bearskin

We went to Gatlinburg the second week of Dec.2003,and stayed at the Bearskin.The room was very clean,staff was friendly,and the view of the river below our balcony was really nice.The fire place and hot tub were welcome additions to the room,especially since it was pretty cold that week.The decor was not fancy by any means,but instead was very homey,and comfortable,very outdoorsy.Also,there was plenty of parking,both under the hotel,and out front.This hotel is like a breath of fresh air for travelers to Gatlinburg,its fairly brand new,and isn't run-down like a lot of the accomodations there.I recommend it,and will definitely stay there again.

We just got back from an early "Smokey Mountain Christmas"! This lodge was very clean. The beds were very comfortable, good night's sleep! Gas fireplace and decor added to the feel of a mountian lodge even though it was a hotel. The staff was very friendly. The ober ski resort is walking distance one block and the Peddler's restaurant right next store had the best food! We had a wonderful time, I will be going back there every year around Christmas!

My husband and I were on a business trip to Gatlinburg the first of November of this year and booked our stay at this motel. The room was very spacious and nice however, the price is a little high compared to other motels in the area. The only concern I had at the time was the carpet. Very dirty, with hugh spots that were very noticeable and I would't dare put my bare foot on it!!

Top Local Tips for Gatlinburg

Wonderworks Defintely take a few hours to check out Wonderworks. . .it's like a big science-y museum with over a hundred interactive exhibits. . .it was really neat!!!

Hard Rock Cafe I would recommend eating at the Hard Rock in Gatlinburg. We were first told that there were no seats available all evening due to huge school trips. We wound up sitting at the bar area (the only area available) and had a great meal. The bartender was great and kept us entertained for the whole meal.

Restaurant choices and activities We ate at The Smoky Mountain Brewery and Restaurant, No Way Jose (Mexican), Blaine's Grill and Bar and the Hard Rock Cafe. All get positive ratings from our party of 9 and were kid friendly, though Hard Rock was a little noisy. You have to go to the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. Very impressive! Of course get into the park to enjoy the mountains. We did the hikes to Laurel Falls, Grotto Falls, and Clingman's Dome. We even saw a bear on the drive back from Clingman's Dome about 3 miles before we got into Gatlinburg on the right side. The drive to Townsend is beautiful. Stop along the road someplace to play in the river. Cades Cove, just outside of Townsend, is definatley worth a day out of Gatlinburg.
