POOL!

Just returned from a 5 day stay at Country Inn & Suites, and it worked out perfect for us. Family friendly service & staff -they were great, always helpful, rooms & common areas clean & nicely maintained. Location was great, close to main highways making it easy to go downtown and to all the sights & other towns of interest.. The kids flipped for the pool's water slide...they couldn't get enough of it. We would definitely stay there again.

Very clean rooms and friendly staff but watch your door is locked

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel in July/06. Rooms were very clean and staff always said something pleasant as you left or returned. Breakfast was very good, all the things you expect plus a few more. Only problem was that there was never enough seating and every morning we had to wait a while (not long) for a table to be free.

The location was good and easy to get to. The door on our room had to be slammed in order to shut and once we returned and the maids hadn't slammed it and it was open. Front desk said they would fix the problem but watch that your door is shut when you leave. The only other negative was that when I got home, I noticed they had charged my visa on the date I made the reservations rather than the day we left...still looking into getting that fixed.

All in all it was a good hotel, a little expensive as it was basic, no fridge or microwave in our room and still $130 but most other decent Rapid City hotels seemed pretty expensive too. Our Country Inn & Suite room in Sioux Falls was only $82 for the exact same thing.

Very Nice....But dont plan on using the Slide at Night

Nice hotel. Very helpful at the front desk. Our only complant was the size of the pool and slide. They claim to have a 100ft slide. Now this is not a straight slide and it dumps into a small pool allowing only a few people in the shallow end for play. The slide has restricted hours and durning those hours they "take a break" of about 15-20mins. So dont plan on booking this hotel just for the slide. The breakfast was nice but overcrowded by bus tours in the early mornings. Overall our family enjoyed our stay. We purchased the Fun in the Hills package and saved $$ overall. If you want to see it all pick this package.

Good Hotel But....

Very nice hotel. Larger than expected. Breakfast was above average with continental plus suasage biscuits (frozen - you microwave), biscuits with gravy, waffles. Clean hotel. The only ding on the property was smell of chlorine from the pool in rooms several floors above the indoor pool. Parking was also limited in front of property with a tight drive to get to the back. Kids loved indoor pool and jacuzzi.

This was our first stay at a Country Inn & Suites since we usually stay at Marriott properties. We were very pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean and comfortable and there were 5 of us. We were given a rollaway bed for our youngest child which was very helpful.

The pool with the big water slide was a big hit with all of us. It was a lot of fun. There were two hot tubs so they were not overly crowded.

The breakfast is the same as you will find at just about any property offering a free breakfast (cereal, toast, waffles, boiled eggs). It was good, and saved us time.

The staff was very nice and helpful. We would definitely stay again. The location was great too, easy to get to Rushmore and Custer State Park.

Nice Hotel for Families

Checked into the Country Inn after checking out of an area hotel that had disappointed us. Traveled with three kids 6, 7, and 9 and my mother. We each had a King "suite", which consist of a bedroom and separate living room with a sofabed and tvs in each room. The room decor is basic, but the room was clean and fit our needs. There was also a microwave, fridge and table and chairs. The kids loved the pool and slide. I didn't think it was too small, although if you are an adult wanting a quiet swim, this probably isn't your place. Breakfast was nice with make-your-own waffles and the usual assortment of cold items -- cereal, bagels, juice, etc. Staff was always friendly and when we checked out and realized we had left a bag after we were halfway home, we called the hotel and they were extremely nice and checked our room and told us they had found the bag and would UPS it to us (at a charge). Received it at home within two days.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in September. The purpose of the stay was just to have somewhere to stop before having to catch an early morning flight out of Rapid City. However, having visited the place we would not have minded staying longer. The rooms were a good size, and clean & tidy. The staff seemed very nice as well. The hotel is well located near a shopping mall, and has a TGI Fridays right next door. Would certainly stay at this hotel again, and based on this experience would stay at others in this chain.

We stayed here 3 nights during our Black Hills vacation. Great breakfasts every morning!! Several restaurants in area for dining. Pool was too small and the current was too strong when the waterslide was turned on....none the less the kids LOVED it!!! Nice location right off I-90. Not long driving distances to all the area attractions. Computer offered in lobby for the guests to use had very slow connectivity. Each afternoon soup was served in the breakfast area on a first come first serve basis. Each one was pretty good. The service was good, the hotel was clean and a GREAT value for the price.

Nice but small pool

We were planed to stay here 2 nights, saturday and sunday July the 23rd and 24th., but due to a delay in Chicago, we have arrived only for the 24th.
Perfect check in, clean room, very good "driving" informations with small
maps with discribed itinerary...
No penality to have missed one night because as I have phoned they have been able to rent the room(even it was after 4 p.m....very honnest to
them...).
Very quite night...
Only moderate point : swimming pool is very small and as there are a lot of children...it's difficult to enjoy it...But we can imagine how it would be nice with children...
Cool breakfast and for a continental breakfast a lot to eat...
So an adress to keep...

We had a wonderful stay at the Country Inn and Suites in Rapid City, SD. We stayed 7 nights and used it as a hub while we visited Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, etc.

Room was very nice at check-in. We had a one bedroom suite that worked perfectly for our needs. Housekeeping did a nice job with our room. She always came while we were gone, and did a great job.

Kids really enjoyed the water slide. We averaged 2 trips a day to the pool. It was quite cool in the evenings and we were very happy that we had chosen a hotel with an indoor pool. Was a little disappointed in the number of people who let their kids come to pool unattended.

Only one drawback - only 2 washers and 2 dryers (1 set on 1st floor, 1 set on 3rd floor) in hotel. Made for some difficulties in getting a washer when needed late in the evenings. Wouldn't keep me from going back, would just bring more clothes!

Top Local Tips for Rapid City

Next door Couple pretty good chain restaurants walking distance from hotel.. TGF's and Outback Steakhouse... Both seemed popular with locals.

Sylvan Lake We always drive up in the hills to the Sylvan Lake area. If we would have had more time, we would have stayed at the Sylvan Lake Lodge.

Rapid City is not the Black Hills. I would devote only about 2 days at the most to Rapid City. One day for shopping, one day for attractions. If you plan to leave the city and see the Badlands and Wall (practically the same location) allow 1 day just for Badlands and Wall. Rapid City is a grassy plain with smaller rolling hills...contrast that with the forrested Black Hills is about 20-25 miles away. Note that there are many businesses (restaurants, tourist shops) in the Black Hills are Cash/check only (no CC)--and most ATM's in S.Dakota charge $2.50 for a maximum withdrawl per transaction of $100 so plan ahead and bring money with you on your trip.
