Our service was great. Very clean, very attractive. The scenery was fantastic. The rates were very reasonable. The only negative might be that the restaurant across the creek did like to play the music loudly.
All in all, It was great. We would stay there again anytime.

fun location

It wasn't shrimping season, but the shrimp boats were out on the creek. Wanted to go out and check out the nightlife, but it was pouring rain the night we stayed. Sat in our room with the sliding door open and listened to the music from across the creek. Sun was shining the next morning and artists were coming out to the docks. The room was adequate, nothing overly special. Desk staff very nice.

Disappointing

when we checked in at 5p on a sat night, the noise of the crowd at the bar/restaurant next door was already annoying. when we asked if there were any other rooms available, the manager said no and that the noise would subside at 10p. we came back from dinner at around 10 and the noise nowhere near subsided until after 1am. we thought it was really obnoxious that not only were we misinformed, but that we actually paid more money for a room creek side, facing the water, but also facing the bar. The room was very mediocre. it was clean, but decorations/interiour design seemed very dated. i had to ask for a hairdryer at the front desk (i'm used to having one in the room). the beds were soft. it just was not the experience in charleston i was hoping for and definitely not a good night's sleep. when we asked for a little bit later checkout, we were denied rudely. i would not recommend this hotel.

everything was so clean --- the sheets were clean and soft. it was so nice to come in from a hot days travel and exploring and have a wonderful balcony and peaceful view. the staff wasn't especially friendly except for housekeeping----there so many great places to eat in walking distance. very romantic evenings. we'll be back

Room with a fabulous view

We stayed at Shem Creek Inn for two nights in July. We happened to be visiting Charleston during the bridge ceremony and on our second night we were able to watch the fireworks display from our 2nd floor room. We stayed in room 224 which had a wrap around deck which faced creekside. This view allowed us to watch shrimpboats and civilian boats cruise up and down the creek. My boyfriend and I were also able to watch some dolphins play during the day. This room had a very large garden tub and shower which allowed for ample soaking. The room was very clean and supplied us with everything we needed. The only suggestion I would have for the Inn is to do a little bit of updating with more "coastal" colors to make the room brighter. The staff was very friendly and helpful and were always smiling. Breakfast was decent, they supplied with bagels, donuts, muffins and a plethera of beverages. I would definately visit again at the quality we received for the price we paid.

poor facilities

Rest rooms were our main concern. 1) poor ventilation 2) toilet lids were cheap plastic and would not stay up unless held 3) water level in toilets too close to seat. TV channels very limited, did not have local channel or national news channel. The continental breakfast is very minimal. Hotel in a great location but over priced for facilities offered, especially when rates on weekends are practically doubled for the same room.

Terrible Customer Service

We booked our reservations online after reviewing the Web sites and other posts. We requested a room with a view of the bay and refrigerator. When we arrived, we were told we could not have a bay side room or refrigerator. Before finally getting the manager (three hotel employees later who each told us something different) we were finally told we couldn't have a bay side room because we made our reservations online. HOWEVER, nothing on Shem Creek Inn's Web site states that if you book online you cannot have a bay side room. FURTHER, the Web site includes a comments/request box. When we pointed this out to management, we were not treated well. We got the biggest run around and experienced the worst customer service. I have never been treated so bad by so many front desk hotel employees.

Not a great experience

We booked a room at Shem Creek after reading all the great reviews. It was very disappointing to open the door and see peeling wallpaper, a tub that was flaking a layer of porcelain, and a view of Vickery's parking lot. The room was very dark and looked like it had not been touched since the 70's. After one night we moved to the Hampton on Isle of Palms.

Great Spot

The charming and comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the Creek with all the activity, wild life and night life made our stay delightful. The proximity to resturants, the great pool and patio, and the service are all first rate.

This is a nice tourist spot for a few days. It is a bit hustly bustly and not a quiet retreat but lots and lots of fun.

A bit pricey, but well worth it.

We just Got home from staying four days at the Shem Creek Inn, had a great time, the rooms were very nice and even better was the staff, and the view. Thank you Shem Creek Inn we'll see you again soon.

Top Local Tips for Mount Pleasant

Sweetgrass baskets On Hwy. 17 just north of Shem Creek Inn there are roadside stands selling sweetgrass baskets at lower prices than at the market in Charleston. And they're just as beautiful! Just be sure to bring lots of cash, since they don't take credit cards.

Shem Creek Best value for the dollar and you don't have to pay for parking. Loved the seafood market being right outside our door as well as the 2 restaurants.

Cypress Gardens A really excellent day out in the swamp, lots of interest for adults and children, very reasonably priced.
