Not bad for Greenville.

I was in town for a wedding and they had their reheasal dinner there.
The banquet room we were in wasn't that great, but the other ballrooms were lovely. The food was what you would expect from a hotel catering service. Not great, but not terrible.

The service was very friendly. One of the bartenders took me on a tour of the ballrooms since I was interested in seeing more of the hotel.
The room was comforatble and clean with a splendid view of downtown.
The location can't be beat. You're within walking distance from cafes, bars, boutiques and the Park.

Not a bad hotel.

I stayed at the Westin Poinsett for business and was only there one night. It is in a great location on the main downtown street and there are plenty of restaurants that you can walk to. They were really friendly at the front desk and recommended a restaurant called Larkins on the River. I went...really friendly staff...good food and a good bar to sit at if you are dining alone. The hotel lobby could stand to be spruced up, but it isn't horrible. My room and bathroom were great. As always...love the Westin linens. The room was huge. I was traveling with my small dog which is also part of the reason I stayed at the Westin. They are super dog friendly and the rooms are so big that you feel like your pet can stretch out a bit. I thought the staff was great. I called down in the morning for my car and when I got down there it was being pulled up by a woman (I assume she is in management or the front desk---something other than valet). They were obviously busy down there with everyone probably checking out and leaving for the airport and she had pitched in and my car was there. I alway find that kind of thing impressive. There is a cute bar in the lobby with a piano player and people seemed to be having a good time. The dining room, however was totally empty. I think there are probably so many great restaurants on the block...everyone just eats out. All in all, I would stay there again. It was quiet. The rooms are big, clean and great beds. Everyone was friendly. Plus, I got a great deal on Expedia...which always makes a stay more enjoyable.

Very friendly, excellent service

Our first exposure to the excellent service was our valet, Robert Lawless, who gave us directions to the best local restaurant, delivered our bags and generally made the beginning of our stay enjoyable.
We found the rest of the staff just as cheerful
and helpful.

The ambiance of the hotel was very good, the beds
were as good as promised and we enjoyed the view out our window of the fountain in front of the hotel.

This was an excellent hotel, highly recommended.
We generally reserve higher ratings for more luxury-oriented destinations.

It was awful the food was terrible and the staff was some what rude! I give it zero out of zero stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heavenly Place

Stayed at the Westin for our honeymoon for one night. Service staff was excellent upon checking in and out. They double-charged us for parking (valet and garage although we didn't use valet), but adjusted our bill without any questions. The beds are certainly "heavenly" and will give you a wonderful nights rest. We had a room with the exterior to a street, but no noise could be heard except for occasional car horns, but aren't they supposed to be heard?!?!? The only complaint we had was not enough towels and water pressure in the shower/tub was a little low. Other than that, we plan to stay here in the future.

For best pricing, the internet didn't work for us. After checking prices online, ranging from ($135-$250 night), we got the best rate by calling the hotel and making reservations through them, $129 night, and that's not even mentioning other quoted prices.

Outstanding Visit

Stayed in this excellent hotel on May 24 and 25. Room was quite large, very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was spotless with a most unusual dual head shower. Hotel staff was very pleasant. Valet parking very convenient. This hotel is located in a wonderful part of the downtown area. This will be my hotel of choice for any future travel to the Greenville area.

Delightful Historic Hotel

We recently stayed at the Westin in Greenville and had a delightful experience. The room was very comfortable and clean, the staff were efficient and helpful and the hotel itself was charming. The only complaint that we have is that the lounge area allows smoking and unfortunately is quite centrally located adjacent to the lobby. The smoke fills the common areas of the hotel - creating a plethora of problems for non-smokers ranging from an irritant (smelly clothes and hair) to a real health risk for those with chronic lung and cardiovascular difficulties. THe Westin might be wise to either ban smoking or move the lounge to a less centrally located spot.

I just recently visited The Westin Poinsett in Greenville, SC on business. What a jewel! This ia beautiful historic property with tons of charm! The staff was friendly, curteous, and very attentive. Know wonder they have received a Four Diamond rating for two years in a row!

It is definatley the best hotel in Greenville, SC!

Disappointed

Based on other Westin Hotels we had expected a bit more luxury. It was as if that week was their maiden voyage. We had friends come by to go to dinner with us. When we got back to the hotel we wanted to have coffee and dessert and continue our visit. Nothing was available so we sat in the lobby and ate snacks from the bar. Staff not as helpful as those at other locations. On the other hand the hotel is in a great location on Greenville's historic Main St.

Other Westins we have visited: Hilton Head, Savannah, Charlotte

Unmitigated disaster

Business travelers beware . . . .

In Sept. 2004, I had a reservation at the Weston Poinsett, guaranteed for late arrival. Because my flight did not get in until after 10:30 PM, I'd asked the hotel to arrange ground transportation for me. (Cabs aren't usually at the airport late at night in Greenville, and so I usually try and have a car waiting for me.)

Arrive Greenville, no car waiting. Strike one.

Ultimately got a ride on a multistop hotel shuttle; got to the hotel about 11:45 PM. Hotel tells me that they were "overbooked" and didn't have a room for me. (General manager later stated that they were definitely NOT overbooked when he went off duty at 7 PM.) Strike two.

Don't worry, I'm told, we'll get you a room at another hotel. And they ultimately do . . . at a fleabag Days' Inn -- 30 minutes outside of town! (Apparently, there was a convention in town, which may explain why the night manager decided to give my room away.) Strike three.

Result: I do not get to bed until 1 AM. Because I had an early meeting at the office building adjacent to the Westin Poinsett, and had to make sure I didn't get caught in morning traffic (remember, the "replacement" hotel was 30 minutes outside of town) , I had to get up at the crack of dawn.

Bottom line: nice facilities, but utterly incompetent and undependable staff. I suggest staying at the Hilton (two blocks away) instead.

Top Local Tips for Greenville

Nothing Pleasing about this place The place is old.. there is no food for under $10 a plate and we are talking like each idem like $10 for a muffin and $10 for eggs and coffee is like $5-10 dollars. The people are nasty they don't tell you there is a local Mc Donald's and stuff for normal people around the corner when you ask. Their answer is " Not in Downtown"( in other words beneath them or oh how low class). And there is within a few blocks away... There were stains on the carpeting in the room that were unidentifiable. They put bathrobes for you to buy in the closet for $90 that have been used and ripped... There are no gift shops with novelties for people, that have key chains and fun things cheap things. The building next door has broken windows and is dirty looking. The hotel itself is not as nice as it looks in the pictures the dining area is smaller so is the lobby... They are over priced. Its definitely for a snob who likes to tell people how to live and what to think and that has no taste or personality and no human quality's.. They are not human friendly to smokers..(I don't smoke but a friend that was with me does) They make the warning if they smell smoke or see anything that says you smoked in the room they will charge you a $200 cleaning fee....There is nothing around the area worth seeing or doing. You would go broke on a trip to this hotel everything in it is a gimmick to make more money.... They take a credit card to supposedly hold the room and put a $50 hold. If you do not use their Valletta parking before you check in you get a ticket to park and they will charge you for parking instead of just validating it. Once you get the room key its free to park in the lot and get in and out of the lot.. Another rip off gimmick. The town itself if a waste of businesses that have gone out or some that are just coming in. The ones coming in are a waste because they have all these expensive over priced items that are not only ugly but they are useless, pointless and unfun... If your on a trip business or pleasure you want to enjoy yourself.. I give this trip a huge thumbs down it was not fun and it was not up to my standers of living.... They have video games that are on a play station system they want to charge you $65 to play. So there is really nothing for a child to do or an adult who is bored.. All the business around are over priced and lacking real entertainment... The rooms lacked color and a warm feeling they were very cold and plan. No decoration and what was there reminded you of a funeral parlor in the angels hanging above the beds..... I will say the beds were comfortable. but that was the only thing that was good.. Nothing fun, Nothing Enjoyable , No Entertainment for the family, Nothing for Kids Or Adults that are big Kids. Expensive, way over priced and pretty much a waste of time and money. Lacks the feeling of being human and being able to relax and have a nice time.

Larkins on the River Great restaurant, aged steaks and fresh fish.Superb wine selection. Great for a romantic meal!
