Gullah Tour, Bull Dog Ghost Tour, Palmetto Carriages We loved the Gullah Tour - Alphonso is wonderful and it really is a fun time. The Bull Dog Jail Tour was great (albeit HOT inside) and my doubting thomas husband wasn't laughing so much when he saw the pictures...Palmetto (Red Barn) Tours were really nice and our guide was great!

Dungeon tour--not quite a rip-off, but close We went to the Dungeon/Exchange house and paid $7 for a tour of the Dungeon. Didn't seem worth it. Our tour guide gave us a little history, and two animatronic figures tried to fill in some historical details. Lasted about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it's the only way to see the lower level of the building. Seeing the original Charleston seawall was memorable, and may have redeemed the expenditure.

Stay where you want to visit If you want to see The Battery and experience the wonderful history of Charleston, spend the extra $$ to stay downtown. You can walk everywhere and not have to hassle with parking. It's a good thing!
