Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Providence Hotel

Not to bad at all

from CT-Travler
The hotel is undergoing a renovation which will convert the hotel from a Holiday Inn to a Hilton. The hotel is a great location...right in back of the RI Convention Center, Providence Place Mall and Dunkin Dounts Center Arena as well as about 1 minute away from the entrance to Federal Hill/Little Italy

The staff was very nice and accomodating. We were checked in rather quickly and a nice man who drives the bus service informed us that if we call the hotel while were out walking around the city they will send the bus out to pick us up. The man told us about all the good places to visit all over the city.

The bathroom was quite small and the maid only put one tiny bottle of a shampoo in a room with 2 double beds. The water also either was extremly hot or extremly cold.

The hotel does have vending machines although there are certain floors such as soda machines on certain floors and food machines on others.

All in all this hotel was fairly good. We were on one of the top floors and were able to look over at the convention center, the downtown skyline, the mall, I-95 and some of the old renovated mill buildings. Try to get a room facing downtown (convention center, dunkin donuts center, mall, etc.) The location is what really helps to sell this place.

The Holiday Inn Providence was a pretty easy hotel to find. The location would be key if you were going to a game or an event.
There were some major renovations while we stayed for one night, but thank goodness they stop on the weekends. There aren't too many hotels to choose from around the area, so it was fine. We weren't intending to stay in the room the whole time. We paid somewhere between $60-$70 for only 1 night, so we really didn't have much to complain about. I'd consider staying there again. But then again, I'm not too familiar with Providence.

I liked it and I would go back!!!

Even with major renovations happening on the exterior of this hotel, it did not get to noisey during the day. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was large. Internet access in the room was nice too. It also looked nicer than most Holiday Inns so I would definately go back again. Its right next to the Dunkin Donuts Center, 1 minute away from the convention center, 1 minute walk away from Little Italy/Fedral Hill and a 5 minute walk from Providence Place Mall, so great location too.

Lived In Providence I pick this when I Visit Good locations safe

Ok being that I lived in providence for over 10 years. I pick this hotel when I am coming in to visit family, It is clean, simple, Safe easy located atwells avenue in a great location still within walking distance from downtown MALL and waterfires if you don't know what waterfires is it is worth seeing and it is free search waterfires Providence. Right around the corner walking distance is the Dunkin Donuts Center, and the conventions center then it is the mall a safe less than mile walk. If you go up to the right when coming out of the hotel walking towards the "pinecone you'll see it" it is Federal Hill the Italian section "lil italy so to say"it is Very Safe. There you can Try Casertas Pizza best in RI. Mediteranneo, on the left the best restaraunt, angelos authentic old school itlaian simple not fancy. La Dolce Vita perfect for Deserts amazing when you see the plaza on the right with the fountain after the intersection in it it is on the right Dolce(try the caramel truffle!) is last on left! if you walk past dolce onto the street you will see casertas, stay away from pastiche it is overrated. Walking Left out of the hotel is a nice BREW pub Casual but restaraunt dinners reasnable called Trinity Brew House, The best bleu cheese pizza around also you can get nice regular meals there. walking distance to trinity theatre as well. more riff raff hangs out about a mile further past the theatre. Also hop on the art trolley it is more or less a tour bus there are two loops of the city cheap but no speaking guides.

ve come to expect

I just returned from a one-night stay.

The desk and housekeeping staff is quite helpful but I found the rooms (yes, plural) quite noisy.

I was first assigned room 1409, sandwiched between the elevator bank and the ice machine. The constant whirring of both drove me nuts so I requested a new room.

After a few minutes, the desk staff reassigned me to room 1400, on the very end, facing Route 95. Despite the distance from street-level, I was able to hear all of the highway and street noise all night. I didn't want to be a pain, so I used earplugs to get some sleep. I was quite surprised that the windows appeared to be single panes without any special noise abatement propeties.

If you choose this hotel, I'd advise requesting a room away from the elevators on the Dunkin Donuts Center side of the building.

Nice, clean, and very affordable!

Nice, average 3 star hotel. My family and I travel often to Providence. Our daughter goes to school at JWU, so we come up 3-5 times a year.

We love the Westin, but when that is booked, we always try to get a room here at the Holiday Inn. We used priceline and got a room for $40/night. The rooms are clean, and the location is great. Parking is free if you are a priority club member. It is free to sign up, so I'd definitely recommend this. We were not, but when we checked in, we were told we could sign up right there on the spot, and they would not charge up.

If you are looking for an affordable, clean hotel, this is the place to be!

Stay Away

I am a frequent business traveler. For some reason, Providence can book up fast. I stayed in a $189 smoking room for one night. Horrendous smoke smell in the room, dirty polyester bed covers, dilapidated bathroom, expensive and dark parking lot...the list goes on. The staff up front were not helpful with area planning, reservations, etc. I will not return.

Okay, but definitely nowhere near great

from santokkie
I booked this room for a great price through Priceline. I was basically looking for a place that was safe, clean and easy to walk to places of interest from. I was not planning on using the hotel other than to come back and sleep at night, so I didn't care for what amenities that it had to offer. However, from reading the reviews, it doesn't seem like much. And from what they do have, it's mediocre at best.

POSITIVES: On the bright side, my room and bathroom were very clean. The sheets were soft and tidy on the bed (i always check the sheets before I get in!). It was also conveniently located relatively within close walking distance from the Italian village they have in Providence, which was a plus. My smoke-free room did not smell like smoke. I felt safe there.

NEGATIVES: The hotel front desk is not particularly friendly. I don't think they like their jobs very much. Also, when we checked in, there was NO line, yet we somehow ended up waiting close to twenty minutes even though there were several people behind the counter. The only other little detail that I didn't particularly like was the $12 parking fee for use of their garage.

Overall, the hotel is okay. If you're looking for a clean and safe place just to crash for a few nights, this is probably a good choice. But if you're looking for a place with excellent service, food and amenities... this is probably not for you.

Exceptional Service

I had a recent opportunity to stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown. I found the hotel to be extremely clean and well maintained. The staff was wonderful. They were extremely friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel for any business or pleasure travel.

Never Again

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had never been to Providence, RI, but decided to give it a try, since the train schedule was perfect. My Amtrak train trip from NYC to Providence was beautiful. No problems there. I was dismayed to discover this Holiday Inn located in the middle of nowhere. Then I discovered that you really needed a car to see the city. My room was average. But there were no fridge nor microwave and the only vending machine in the building offers nothing but canned soda. You're forced to use the very over-priced restaurant where the service is lousy. For instance, I ordered a very simple breakfast of toast, eggs, bacon, coffee. Price: $15.00. I mean, this wasn't Chicago or NYC or San Francisco. The coffee was lukewarm, the food nothing special. I tried to figure out the trolly system there and asked one of the smiling girls behind the counter. She hemmed and hawed when I showed her the schedule on a Sunday and then she said there wasn't any trolley service on Sunday. When I looked out my window later, I saw the trolleys working. So my final day there was spent going nowhere. When you come here, you'd better have a car and plenty of moo-lah. Also, if you like to have snacks in your room, you'd better shop ahead of time. The price you pay for your meals in the mediocre restaurant could buy you a train ticket to other place where you can find a hotel that really cares about its guests--and doesn't try to squeeze every penny out of you that they can.
