This hotel was great. My sisters and I stayed here during the off season. The location is perfect- convenient to shopping and restaurants. Everything was within walking distance. Our room had a slider to a grassy area and the harbor. Accommodations were very nice.

Awful Hotel with good location

This hotel is in a great location considering that most of the shops and restaurants are within walking distance. That is the only redeeming quality of this hotel. It is essentially a very expensive Holiday Inn Express with a very rude staff. The rooms are very small and the beds are not very comfortable. The bathrooms are also very small even though they have been updated. If I went back to Newport then I would definitely stay some where else.

Unsafe and uncomfortable

Upon my arrival for business I was given a room that the door did not close properly, and the slider window screen was not attatched ( very close to the ground). This was a hotel I probably would not stay again, it was a discounted price through a website, and was credited as a 3 1/2 star......not in the very least!!!! Although recently painted etc. it still had an old feeling about it and the beds were less than desireable. The cleanliness could have been better.

Location, Location, Location

Just returned from a weekend at the Newport Harbor Hotel. It is in a great location, walking distance to everything. We booked the room on price-line and got the room for half off the listing price. The hotel is older, but the rooms are very nicely decorated and clean. We had a view of the harbor which was beautiful. Would stay here again.

Middle of the Road

It is a 2 star MOTEL with a good location and fresh paint. I stayed for St. Patricks Day Weeekend. The staff did not seem to care about customers. Everything has a cost, $11 /day Internet, $10/day parking, Newspapers also.

To get to the pool, you have to walk past the lobby and the front desk. My room a view of the roof,the window would not shut fully, all we could hear was the heaters/AC's from other rooms.

Just came back from a night at the Harbor Hotel. Everything was wonderful. The staff was very efficient, our room was clean and had a great view of the water. We had champagne and truffles waiting for us upon arrival. Dinner at Waverley's was very good. Nice to get away in the winter and enjoy Newport.

our room had an electric heater - and it was stuck on - when we called down they sent up housekeeping and got mad at us when we said the electrician had been there - how were we supposed to know it was housekeeping - then after 3 calls the electrician came in - they reset it and said to call them if not okay - we went out for dinner and came back and it was like a sauna in there = their solution was to sleep with the window open - which we did - it was 8 degrees outside -we are all sick now - hotel was clean - room was nice but their was no offer to change the room or to move us -- or to offer a refund - not even a free newspaper - the pool area was okay - but there is NO HOTTUB! -Would not stay there again - lack of concern from staff !!!!

This is an average hotel in a great location for a good price.The staff seemed nice enough,but we only spoke with them at check in and check out.It's not a four star hotel,however the rooms are clean and comfortable.It's located on the water in the middle of town.The city view room we had last time had a view of both the town and the water.This is not the Marriot but by no means is it run down either(at least not since our last visit on June 04).I gave it above average based on the price and location.Will be going back this week.

the location is so good you can almost overlook the fact that you are paying hotel prices for a glorified motel. i might have been happier if the toilet hadn't overflowed for no reason. they did fix it quickly, but no apology was forthcoming. ranking it 58th makes sense.

Rude unaccomodating staff, overpriced

From making reservations to check-in, the staff at this overpriced hotel was rude and pretentious while completely indifferent to making their guests satisfied. While checking out on a Sunday, the hotel was unwillig to extend the checkout time from 11 a.m. to noon for a large wedding party including the family of the married couple! Staff also unwilling to accomodate requests for any addittional space to gather pre/post wedding events. Plus, the bathrooms were not very nice.

Unless you enjoy staying at an average overpriced hotel and dealing with self righteous, pretentious and down right rude hotel staff, please stay somewhere else during your visit to Newport.

And I've stayed in some pretty bad places through the years. This overpriced, holiday-inn type hotel must bank on the fact it is centrally located because it is the single most disgusting and dirty hellhole. The staff is completely incompatant and obnoxious--they send maids around at 11:00 to literally bang on guests doors and yell at them that it is time to check out---this on a sunday when they probably don't have a lot of people coming in.

Furthermore, the television did not work--and the staff could care less. The water pressure was abomidable and the cleanliness marginal. If you have any option whatsoever (I did not, as a member of a wedding party) run for the hills. I honestly could go on and on and on about the myriad problems we experienced in two days. I might consider sleeping in my car again before I was subjected to the hell of the newport harbor hotel and marina.

Top Local Tips for Newport

Great shopping! The shopping area is close by, you can just go on a walk and enjoy the fun little boutiques that are just across from the hotel.

Delicious meal My tip is to try "Tickets", located directly across the street from Easton Beach, the Atlantic Grille and the Comfort Inn on Aquidneck Avenue. I believe the people that own the Atlantic Grille own Tickets also (we never tried the Atlantic Grill). At tickets, our food was absolutely delicious, our server was great, the atmosphere was classy but not snobby and the prices were reasonable. I'd have to say this was our best meal, with Brick Tavern being our worst (awful place, reminded me of a chain restaurant, the food was bar food at best).

Short ride to New Yaork Take public bus from Newport to Providence and catch the Amtrak train ( 2 blocks away from bus station in Providence) and take a 3 hour train trip to New York and see a broadway show - absolutely worth it ! If you go to New York - must eat at Carmins Rest. - wonderful food and experience !!
