best in Newport

from tymelyron
My wife and I stayed here on a Thursday evening a couple of weeks ago in the Chalet Suite, which is a separate building about 100 feet from the inn itself. The Chalet has two rooms, one with a king bed and bath, and the other, the one we stayed in, with a king bed, large bath with jacuzzi tub, and sitting room with a pullout bed and fridge. (the Inn website has good photos of all the rooms.) We cannot say enough about our room, (comfortable bed, view of the harbor and Newport bridge) and the service (fresh cookies and chocolates left by the bed). Afternoon tea and a great gourmet breakfast were included in the room rate, which was very reasonable, at least for a weekday. Sitting outside the inn, overlooking the harbor, on a nice day was most relaxing, and less than 10 minutes from downtown Newport, on Ocean Drive. Everyone at the inn was most polite and helpful and the entire experience made us look forward to a return. The Harbor rooms, in a separate building near the Chalet, looked attractive, as did the Beach rooms, near the entrance to the Inn, which are evidently the largest, with direct access to the beach. Note: a 2 day minimum on weekends during the high season is required; also, if staying in the Chalet rooms, check on whether there will be a party at the inn, as the outdoor reception area, which overlooks the harbor, is right outside and below the room, so there might be noise for part of the night. All in all, if you are in Newport and want to stay in an inn that ranks with the best, reserve now!

Beach Houses are perfect

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at a Beach House for 3 nights midweek in May on our Honeymoon and could not have found a more perfect place. We cannot think of anything to criticise - and we are fussy travellers! The Beach House rooms are beautiful and modern with real attention to detail with decks overlooking a private beach. The breakfasts (included) were delicious, the staff are charming and not too formal. We had dinner at the restaurant one night and were impressed - great wine list, too. Stay here.

OUTSTANDING!

My son graduated Salve, which has allowed me over the years to spend
a great deal of time in Newport. Mt recent stay in Beach House #37 at
Castle Hill was phenominal in every way! Upon arrival we found an
immaculate room with fireplace, galley kitchen, marble bath with
jacuzzi, heated floors, "down " pillows & linens on king size bed, magnificant
view from private deck overlooking the water. Summer, winter, spring
or fall this is indeed a very special place to stay. We chose to dine in
town at Scales & Shells, a favorite of ours, however the next morning
breakfast at Castle Hill was wonderful. Service excellent in every way.
We have already made return reservations for Memorial Day and look
forward to becoming a frequent guest.
P.S. Exceptional toiletries provided in bath ladies: MOLTON BROWN!

Castle Hill Beach House - Great

from *%_65
My wife and I stayed in one of the Beach Houses at Castle Hill Resort (#34). We took advantage of one of the spring packages which includes breakfast and dinner. It would be impossible to build the houses any closer to the water. See pictures from the deck. The weather was a little cool but the attraction to walk the beach and the rocks in front of the house was irresistable. The beach houses come with kitchen which would be nice for an extended stay.

The breakfast was very well done with many choices. The wait staff were very attentive with additional coffee and also bringing some pastries while we were waiting for our breakfast.

Dinner was excellent. The dinner with the package was pick of the menu which was very extensive. Again the wait staff was very attentive.

The price maybe on the high side from some travelers, but compared to other top tier resorts the price is reasonable. If you want to get away from it all, Castle Hill on the end of Ocean Drive could not be a better get away.

Great secluded seaside inn

from Crazypugs
We stayed there in April 2005. It was a top-notch place and a good value, considering what a nice place it is. We stayed at one of the eight beachhouses and loved the privacy and roominess. It was just a few hundred yards from the sea with a private beach. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and cheerful. We ate dinner at the restaurant, and a three-course meal was included in our package. Our server was knowledgeable about wine and did not hesitate to ask the chef what wine he would suggest with certain food. The restaurant offers a beautiful view of the bay. Breakfast is included with all rooms, and we opted to have it delivered to our room for a small fee, which gave us more time to sleep and allowed us to eat seaside. The food was wonderful. We have never been to Newport and just picked this place based on its website, which accurately portrays the inn. There is nothing bad to say about Castle Hill.

Wonderful Castle Hill

from Steve in NJ
My wife and I spent the weekend at Castle Hill, taking advantage of one of their Spring packages - room, one dinner, breakfast and admission to a Newport Mansion all included in the package. We stayed in the Bridge Room, which had a nice view of the bridge out one set of windows, and of the Lighthouse and across the bay from the half-circle window above the bed. The room was incredibly comfortable, and the hospitality was amazing - from cookies as a welcome gift, to teatime tea delivery to our room, to Mark, the excellent waiter we had at dinner. Breakfasts are large - we didn't need to eat lunch afterward. The food at the restaurant was excellent!

At first the package seemed a bit expensive, but I have to say that it was worth every penny - and even a bit more. Castle Hill is a great place to stay!

Perfect in every way.

My husband and I have stayed at Castle Hill Inn many, many times and will continue to return as often as we can. We are very discriminating travelers and both agree that it is absolutely wonderful. We stay in the beach houses which are comfortable, private and have one of the best views on the east coast. There are eight beach houses that rest on a private beach where the sound of the waves lull you to sleep each night. The staff is freindly and accomodating. The beach houses have a fire place, a jacuzzi, large walk in shower, are appropriately decorated, have comfortable beds, a deck overlooking the water, turn down service and the room is always clean. An excellent breakfast is included with the room and afternoon tea is a treat. The packages are great, especially in the off season. Dinner at the inn is wonderful and delicious. A real find.

Beach Houses are incredible!!

from little-shamrock
We visited Newport the last week of October and stayed in the East Room 2 the first night. It's smaller than the other rooms in the main inn but very beautifully decorated and very cozy. The remaining 4 nights of our stay we were in a beach house. I can't say enough about the beach houses. With the ocean at your front door, a gas jet fireplace, four poster bed and a marble jetted tub, what more can you ask for?! We had breakfast delivered to our beach house on 2 occasions for a small fee and also had dinner at the Mansion one evening, which was very nice. The food was terrific but the accommodations left a lasting impression. Overall, I'd go back to Newport just to stay in one of the beach houses!!!

Honeymoon was Fabulous here!

My husband and I spent 3 nights here for our honeymoon. The staff was excellent and it was so beautiful! We stayed in the Rose Room and in one of the Beach Houses for the last night. Very romantic, service was exceptional!

Top Local Tips for Newport

Late Summer is the best time to go I went for a friend's wedding, which was held last September 2007. It took place the second weekend of September and the weather was warm and sunny and because she booked her wedding after Labor Day weekend, crowds died down and it wasn't crazy busy like it can get in July and August, which is perfect for a wedding.

Mansion Tours - Some Tips If you are going to take Mansion tours, your best bet is to become a member of the Newport Historical Society - you get a tax writeoff, it allows the society to continue to maintain these lovely structures, and you can get behind the scene tours of select properties as a member. Also, the Marble House tour is very good and quite extensive (great location on Cliff Walk as well and it includes the Chinese Teahouse which I loved) - the Breakers tour is much more limited and the most crowded. Finally, if you become a member they will give you coupons to some of the local restaurants that are quite decent - the Moorings, for example.

Eat here!! Go to the Red Parrot (go late in the Summer because the crowds are crazy earlier!) Try the Sticky Wings - they are amazin!! Also, go to The Black Pearl - Eat in the Tavern very cool!!
