I was there for one night with my parents... The room was very nice, decor was great but at the middle of night... it was too loud to fall asleep but other than that our experience was good...

Stayed here for three nights. We had requested the stream side rooms because we had stayed here previously and really enjoyed them. This time the streamside rooms we were assigned were right next to the outside lounge and bar. Our rooms shook with the music the last two nights until 1:30AM - not great since we had to get up at 4:00AM to catch a flight. The room is average - the linens are nice, but the bed is a bit hard. The shower pressure was good - there were cigarette stains on the tub. The amenities are nice with nice lotion, shampoo, etc. Coffee maker only makes one cup at the time. Wireless internet was really good and was free. First room service wasn't very good - the pizza was burned on the edges and they did not bring a plate, silverware or any napkins.
The second room service was a lot better. Dinner in the Thyme Restaurant was good - we shared an entre' as the prices are a little high, but the food was excellent. We were given free breakfast buffet coupons - they are only good for the buffet and if you order off the menu you are charge. The buffet is average, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast - or cereal... Got a massage at the spa - it was great and reasonably priced.
Overall, it was an average hotel stay - nothing great really stood out during the visit. My worst complaint was the location of the room right next to the bar.

My husband and I stayed at the Woodlands for one night , Saturday, 4/28, in a king room - #124 - for an event we were attending in Wilkes Barre.
Our room was in the main building and very close to the lobby area. We checked in around 4:30 pm without issue - however, when we walked down to our room, someone was in there just making sure "everything was Ok" - looked to be the maid's supervisor. She left within about 30 seconds and we entered our room. The king room was very small, in my honest opinion. Belgium bed linens seems nice upon first notice, but we noticed that when we went to sleep, there were holes in the top fitted sheet - which, ironically, did not fit the bed all that well, as it came undone throughout the night. There is a sign in your room saying that you can purchase the linens with prices listed as well - however, I don't know how inclined I would be to purchase linens that have holes in them, in all honesty! Not the best advertisment for their durability! Bed was comfortable, though. I found the room and decor to be very average. The TV is antiquated and definitely needs updating. The furniture was nicked and outdated as well. Although we did not order, room service menu looked nice and reasonably priced. Our 1st floor room had a walk-out patio which was nice. 2nd floor rooms have balconies.
Bathroom was a decent size. Shower pressure was terrible. When you turned on the bathroom sink, water spalshed everywhere. It was clean, though. There is a low-wattage hair dryer attached to the wall - I recommend bringing your own if you have thick hair - this one really did not do the job well.
The Woodlands is a very large complex with an indoor pool and a HUGE jacuzzi (the jacuzzi fits 35 people!), a seasonal outdoor pool and a restaurant, quite a few bars (including a martini bar and an outdoor bar/deck), and a nightclub. We went to the martini bar and it was fun. There is also a spa on premises as well.
The property is fairly well-maintained and attractive. It is probably the most "upscale" of all the Wilkes Barre hotels and certainly has the most entertainment-wise. It's a solid 3* hotel - nothing more, nothing less.
Something that is unfortunate is when all the bars/clubs/restaurants at the Woodlands close at 2 a.m., there is so much noise because so many people who are leaving the venues come through the main area of the hotel - we were woken at 2:15 am by loads of people laughing and talking. Also, I am concerned about security and safety of the hotel guests with so many non-hotel patrons running through the hotel room lobbies.
Would I stay at the Woodlands again? Probably, because I get the feeling it's as good as it gets in Wilkes Barre, PA. I can't fault too much about our stay - we had a nice time.

If you Smoke and want a Smoking room be wary of online reservations.
from Kahhli
If you do Smoke and want a smoking room you should call the hotel directly and book the room because the hotel did not honor my request for a Smoking room in "The Tower" section of the hotel even though the website offered it and confirmed it.
We were then forced to take a room with just one King Bed because that was all they had available.
We had requested a Dbl/Dbl room.
Room service food was very good. It was delivered in 20 minutes.
They served ample portions and the "All Day" menu was reasonably priced.
Some of the rooms are quite a hike from the main dining areas though.
If you have any difficulty with walking distances or lugging your suitcases up and down small flights of stairs to get to your room make sure you request a room that is close to the dining areas not down by the pool area.
Getting to those rooms is much like walking the halls of a cruise ship .. long, windy and narrow.
We were never asked if we needed help with our bags so I'm not sure if that service is available or not.
The complex itself is nice. It offers several eating/bar areas to unwind in. There is a huge indoor hot tub and pool on the premises. The outdoor pool was closed because of the season.
Some of the rooms have been renovated and are in great shape.
"The Tower" rooms were very nice.
The King room we stayed in was along the creek with a balcony, however because of a recent snowfall you could not access the balcony as it had not been cleared yet.
The floor below us had been damaged by a flood that occured the previous year and because of that the Wireless service was not available in that section of the hotel, this per the hotel operator.
Overall it's a nice establishment and I would suggest it to others.

Horrible
from Mo56
I was there for a concert in the grand ballroom. After the show the security was telling everyone they had to leave and go to bed. We were then ushered out of the lobby. I am a 42 year old woman, not some crazy kid causing trouble. There was no need to be treated with such disrespect. We were treated as if we were inmates in a prison. The security was rude, pushing and shoving people, it was a very horrible experience. As for the hotel itself, the scenery is beautiful, but that is by nature, not the hotel. The rooms were in desperate need of remodeling. The balconys seemed as if they were falling apart. A very disappointing experience.
The Woodlands - Will keep staying here
from bb5555
I stay a night at the Woodlands every few months, usually on a weekend, and always have a positive experience. The remodeled rooms are on par with most new Sheratons I have stayed at. The bedding is awesome - comfortable down pillows and down comforter. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the room service is quick and very good. There is a lot of nightlife at the Woodlands, with at least 5 different bars of varying themes. The dance club is a true dance club, with great lights and sound, which I honestly didn't expect to find in NE Pa. It can get a little loud around the nightclub and the lower bars late at night on the weekends, but I've had a room right next to the nightclub and couldn't hear anything when I was in the room. Overall I am very satisfied with my past stays at the Woodlands and I will continue to stay there when I travel to Wilkes Barre.
Lovely!!

Ok!! I love to travel and nothing is better than a great travel experience .. and a bargain!!
I needed to attend a seminar at this location. With just a little effort, I upgraded from the room offered by the company which organized the seminar. I enjoyed a LOVELY creekside suite. The private deck literally hung directly over the picturesque stream and the ducks were within just a few feet of the deck. LOVELY!
Add a VERY comfortable bed, very nice linens, a HUGE marble bath with whirlpool tub.
TIP: ask about the MAP (I believe it stood for Modified American Plan). For an additional fee (about $10 per day), dinner and breakfast were included. I'd been told that there was a list of menu items available.. and I had expected Mac and cheese or meatloaf. =) Instead, the list was quite varied and included baked herbed chicken, lobster encrusted tilapia, a portobella dish, etc. There were about 8-10 very nice menu options which included a salad, side dishes and dessert bar. WOW!
The breakfast was nice also. Can't beat this value!!!
Some of the hallways and public areas may look a bit tired.. but the rooms and dining options were wonderful and the Thyme Restaurant is very classy. Enjoy!!

Decent Joint

Stayed for one night after an evening of partying in the Woodlands Complex. The rooms have sort of a 'dated' look to them, but clean and well equipped. Bathrooms were in good shape, we left some of our stuff in the room after checkout, and to our surprise it was all still there once we called them back to see if they found it. It was not an overly beautiful room, but the scenery and lobby decor more than make up for it.
Basically, it's a good deal, and you get what you pay for. Would definately stay there again.

I'm a regular at the Woodlands Inn & Resort. I've stayed there many times, and every time I am very pleased. Weather it's summer or winter, or if you want a relaxing getaway or a fun filled one, the Woodlands is a great place to stay!
The nightlife at the Woodlands offers many choices. I love coming here for a fun getaway because everything you need to party is right here at the Woods! They offer a variety of music styles in multiple rooms, inside and outside bars, and even a night club!
When I need a relaxing getaway, the Woodlands provides everything I need to relax and take it easy. Lying next to the outdoor pool, while listening to the creek below in summer is something I look forward to every year. For cooler nights, the indoor pool and large Jacuzzi are open late. There is also a very good restaurant at the Woodlands.
I can't believe the negative remarks left by some about the Woodlands. The Woodlands offers, choice, the chance to have fun, or just relax and be carefree. It’s a place you can go to get away from the everyday grind and to be accommodated in a variety of ways. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences there and look forward to more of them in the future. Especially the NYE Event; so much fun, good food, good people, good music, and a great time for all!

Exceeded Expectations

Just got back from Pa and stayed at the Woodlands for 3 nights. It was just wonderful. I was leary because of the reviews but as soon as we checked in I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk was very friendly, and the room (streamside) was gorgeous! We travel quite a bit, and we are quite picky, and I have to admit there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Woodlands. (Maybe they could put lights on the balconies so you could sit out there in the evening.) We also attended a wedding at the Woodlands and it was TOP NOTCH. Decor and food excellent.
This is not a 4 star place - Overrated and overpriced
from A TripAdvisor Member
This is an overpriced 21/2 -3 star hotel, not the "superior" place they want you to overpay for. We even had to pay an extra $10 for a refrigerator when you can get one for free in much cheaper and nice places (Econo lodge is half the price) The room looked like it hadn't been dusted. The level of noise from the numerous nightclubs is very intense and good luck parking at night. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable and the view of the creek is very nice and scenic.
Top Local Tips for Wilkes Barre
Leggio's Across from the Woodlands there is a plaza with a restaurant called Leggio's. They are a family Italian place with great Bar, good Food, Modest Pricing, and Good Service. A hometown joint. Good place for Football Games at the Bar! SUPERB PIZZAS!
if you go to Wikes-Barre go skiing. Montage is very close.
don't go when its snowing please refer to the weather report and don't make any plans to visit when its going to be snowing.
