Very friendly, good stay

from Carmen57
This was a great hotel. They were so helpful and even got us connecting rooms - and we were on Priceline! Very quiet, beds comfy, fitted sheets (my fave), rooms looked newly renovated. Smallish bathroom - not luxurious, but fine. Good location - we were visiting Univ Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon - all walkable. Lots of good eateries around. Note that the valet parking is not $16/day, but $16 per stay. We were there two nights and only paid $16.

Friendly Hotel, Great Location, Pets Allowed

from GSVA
My recent stay at the Wyndham Garden Hotel was better than expected. My car was filled with my daughter's possessions, including a TV and a computer as she was off to college. For $16 per night, I received valet parking in a secure lot. My dog was welcomed for $10 per night - far less than the $75 fee at the Marriott down the street. An 'animal room' sign was posted on the door and our dog was always made to feel welcome as we traveled through the hotel and the neighborhood.

Pitt is a pleasant three block walk from the hotel and the area is filled with affordable restaurants and coffee shops. Knowing that the hotel was filled with new Pitt students who would need things for their dorms, the hotel even provided a sheet with directions to a variety of shopping areas. Even with the hotel completely booked, everyone was friendly and took the time to be most helpful.

Very nice place

from Camundongo
The Wyndham was very nice. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The room (the bathroom in particular) was a little smaller than I anticipated, but it was comfortable. I booked it on Hotwire, so I got a great deal, about 50% off regular price. What I liked best was the shuttle service. They have a van that will take you around the city and pick you up. The drivers were courteous and reliable. We used the van service to go to Station Square, PNC Park and to Shadyside with absolutely no problems. The $16 per night parking charge was a little steep, but I suppose that's a competitive rate. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get to know one of my favorite cities--Pittsburgh.

Great hotel, but not perfect.

The Wyndham hotel is a stately hotel in a great location. The room was in good condition and the beds were comfortable and well made. However, the dining, while tasting good, was very expensive, and there were few good restaurants around.

Pleasant Hotel with great convenience!

from mtabusrunner
Booked this off of Hotwire, and admit I was a bit nervous after reading the other reviews on here, but the stay was just fine! Arrived by train, and used PAT bus to reach the hotel.

Biggest plus of the hotel is the Oakland location, a vibrant and safe area. Convenience was great for us, with a wide range of eateries nearby. One major plus was the proximity of the area to other Pittsburgh areas, and the excellent level of service via the PAT buses, which operated to Downtown and the South Side, as well as to outer locales.

Room was clean, and it was quite comfortable, with soft comfy beds, a sitting chair, and a desk and chair. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, though I admit I didn't take full advantage of the services. My biggest need was the availability of a 330am check out (early train out) which they gladly obliged.

Elevators are in the process of being renovated, with one of them already upgraded. Waits, while just a tad long at times, were never excessive.

Only reason I didn't give a 5 circle was due to the fact that I didn't fully utilize the services, so I can't speak for the restaurant, nor the efficicency of the valet. But for what I was looking for, a clean, comfortable, and quiet place to rest at night, I got more than my money's worth.

s Okay to stay at Wyndham

from Wismergirl
Our family of 4 stayed at the Wyndham for just one night. As a Wyndham by Request guest, we got an upgrade to stay at the Executive Level. There was a lounge with a pool table, had some fun playing there. The room was small but pretty clean. We also had free internet and some welcome bonuses like free sodas and candies. However, after staying in a 2-bedroom suite at the 4-star Omni, everything at Wyndham became average. Valet parking, though pricey ($16), was quite efficient.

Wyndham has great service and is comfortable!

from CuzinPat
I was apprehensive about staying at the Wyndham for full price based on tripadvisor reviews but got a great rate on Hotwire so I booked 2 rooms for 4 nights. Wyndham's location is right in the heart of the university district and within walking distance of many hospitals, universities, and attractions. Wyndham's appearance is somewhat dated with a persistent musty smell but public spaces are very clean and comfortable. Lobby area is multi level with reception, sitting areas & fountain on lower level and library/sitting areas, restaraunt & lounge on upper level. There is a lift available between these levels for handicap access. Our double rooms provided clean, comfortable accomodations, adequate size with small sitting area/desk & average size bathroom with full tub & good shower water pressure. Toiletries, ample towels, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron & board provided. Hotel is somewhat noisy as you can hear many doors open/close and TV/loud conversations in nearby rooms but not bad enough to interrupt our comfort. On site restaraunt service and food quality was very good for dinner and breakfast buffet. Any negatives of this hotel is totally neutralized by the excellent customer service provided by the entire staff. The front desk staff welcomed us warmly at our extremely late arrival after a long trip with our reservations in order & rooms waiting for us to crash in; the free shuttle service drivers readily accomodated our many requests throughout our stay which we found extremely helpful; the food service & housekeeping staff were always attentive and thorough. We were very pleased overall and would definitely return with a good rate!

Overpriced but nice

from Stlrsfan
Hotel was clean and fairly quiet inside, but lots of outside noise due to being in the medical area....sirens throughout the night. Room was much smaller than I would have expected. Staff was friendly. Ordered two cheeseburger plates through room service and it was $26.00....... Bathtub would not hold water, but water pressure was good for a shower. Had to wait a while for the valet to park the car, a mandatory thing at the hotel, to the tune of $16.00.

Find A Different Hotel

The hotel's main positive aspect is it's close proximity to the University of Pittsburgh campus which was our destination. Other than that...it had few redeeming qualities.

The main issue was only one elevator in operation so we literally had to wait 20 minutes to get to our room on the 2nd floor. Ridiculous! (We've stayed here before when both elevators worked and they're still extremely slow.)

When asking the reception staff (who always seemed irritated) about a stairwell they simply retorted that there wasn't one. What?! Isn't that a problem in the event of a fire? (We eventually found one that you could only take down and let out directly to the street...but shouldn't the staff let you know of the situation?) Ugh..we had to plan our return back to our room and would send someone ahead to press the call button or wait in line for the elevator.

Additionally, there were crumbs all over our floor (gross) and the bathroom had black mold growing out of the tile and wallpaper near the ceiling (double gross).

Find a different hotel in the Oakland area if you can!

t me

I am a patient at the Liver disorder center. First of all, they gave me a special rate for that. The staff was very nice, and I don't mean suck-up nice. The breakfest was the best the last time I was here. As you guessed, I am at the hotel now using there free internet high speed hook up for free. It comes with a lot of other things if you go on-line and fill out the "By-Request" membership for free. On there, you can request things like extra pillows, blankets, ect... They even ask you what kind of snaks and drinks you like. When you get there, it is all waiting in the room. Yes, they can be expensive for a poor boy like my self, but they even accomidate my wife's food allergies. The rooms are clean, and the bath rooms. This has to be one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The staff knows I have little money, but they still treat me and my wife like we are the richest people they have ever had. The shuttle service is even handy. The building I go to for my doctor's appointment is one block away up hill and I can't walk up this hill. they don't say a word, They just take me. The chief that works the kitchen is top notch and believe when I say I know cooking. They even managed to get our favorite room each time we stay. My hat is off to these people and I don't take it off for any one.

Top Local Tips for Pittsburgh

Restaurant to try if you stay at Wyndham If you do stay at this wyndham, try an order of wings from Quaker State just 2 blocks up. The spicy wings were great and very inexpensive.

People watching on the South Side Carson street (on the South Side) in the day or night from 18th street upwards. Lots of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops.

earplugs The hotel is nice enough, the walls are too thin though and having earplugs is a real plus!
