We wanted a unique place to stay for our anniversary and were not disappointed. It was also helpful that it was within walking distance of the ball park. The hotel is not in a great neighborhood and the paint and woodwork could use a little touch-up work if you look closely. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

My wife and I recently stayed with some friends at The Priory Hotel. It was a wonderful experience -- like stepping out of the hustle and bustle of the outside world and into a comforting, relaxing place which put us immediately at ease. The Priory's staff was exceptionally solicitous, and we felt welcomed, wanted and pampered. We recommend this 25-room slice of Europe in Pittsburgh highly.

My wife and I recently stayed at The Priory for the first time. We had a wonderful time, the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, comfortable and beautifully appointed with antique furnishings. We enjoyed the complimentary wine in the afternoon and delicious breakfast, which is included with your stay. Free parking and convenient location to northside attractions, make getting around easy. Their package deals are definitely worth considering. I recommend the Penn Brewery, right up the road, for great beer and German food.

I have traveled the world and stayed in hotels everywhere, from big chains to country Inns and in my opinion the Priory is right up there with the best of them. The staff is wonderful and friendly, the accomodations are fantastic and the athmosphere is the same as being in a fine hotel in Europe. I live just ouside of Pittsburgh but if for any reason I need to stay downtown the Priory is my first choice.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out my room had been upgraded with a lovely view of the Pittsburgh skyline. If you like historical homes, this is the place for you. I found the 24 hour staff very helpful to this first time visitor traveling alone to this city. Little things like complimentary wine in the evenings, breakfast in the morning and car service made my trip very enjoyable. I hope to visit Pittsburgh again soon and the Priory will be my first priority.

Very Nice

This was a very nice place to stay. My wife and I went up for the weekend and enjoyed our stay very much. Rooms are nice and ours had a nice overlook of the garden. A wedding was going on, with the reception to follow which was a little noisy. Front desk was wonderful and very helpful. Overall, it was very nice.

We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere offered at the Priory Hotel, located on the North Side of Pittsburgh. The building is a carefully preserved piece of history, once serving as a Benedictine Monastery.
When we walked through the front door, we were greeted by a very friendly member of the staff. A huge vase of fresh-cut roses adorned the corner.
We were immediately shown to our room, which was decorated in a mix of period and modern furniture. The bathroom had been cleverly added in the corner of the room, without distracting from the 1888 original construction.
Complimentary wine was offered in the late afternoon: carafes, brimming with your choice of white or red and glasses neatly stacked on the table for the taking. We could enjoy our drinks in the sitting room, or the adjacent library, or outside on the courtyard, which offers complete privacy to all of the patrons.
Our room had a beautiful view of the courtyard, which was available all day for outside enjoyment.
The included breakfast was considered continental, but a hot dish was offered every morning of our stay. In addition to hot coffee and tea, there were ample pastries, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. We chose to eat our breakfast outside, enjoying the chirping of the birds, and the antics of the resident squirrel.
This charming B&B offers modern conveniences in a historical environment.
The location is in a quiet neighborhood, with parking right across the street, in a special lot. We left our car in the lot, free of charge, and we were able to easily walk into the city of Pittsburgh. The B&B is located only a few blocks from both of the sports stadiums. We felt perfectly safe walking to the hotel after seeing a Pirate game.
The environment was extremely clean and inviting. From the fluffy towels, replaced fresh daily, to the chocolate mint adorning the pillow, we couldn't help but think that we were being pampered.
The biggest plus of the Priory Hotel was the Non Smoking Policy. The facility is entirely smoke-free inside, but smoking is permitted outside on the terrace.
The office staff was friendly, available 24 hours a day, and always willing to make reservations and offer suggestions for local attractions.
You really can't beat the price for the B&B located in this quiet Pittsburgh neighborhood.

The Most Charming Place to Stay!

This was absolutely a lovely place to spend an evening! We had all the convenience of the city at our fingertips (not to mention free car service into town!), but once inside The Priory, all time and place melt away. We relaxed in the quiet and the charm of the place: antiques, elegant rooms, wine, friendliness, charm and a delicious breakfast! It was something special--not just a hotel room! We have no intentions of staying anywhere else in Pittsburgh.

The Priory's staff were, without exception, courteous and very helpful. The building has a rich history that is reflected in the architecture and furnishings. Wine and crackers are served in the parlor in the evenings, providing a nice environment for relaxing and enjoying the hotel. Breakfast is also very nice. We couldn't have been more pleased with our room, the staff and service, and the value. We highly recommend the Priory to those who enjoy a hotel with character (i.e., not the corporate standard). We will certainly stay again.

Charming European Style Hotel

This hotel is a beautiful renovated former priory. It has been tasefully decorated with antiques and the rooms are very comfortable. The courtyard is wonderful to sit in on sunny days and sip your morning coffee and eat the continental style breakfast provided. The courtyard reminded me of Europe.

The staff are gracious, helpful and will give you tips on restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is located near the Convention Center and both the football and baseball stadiums. Pittsburgh is a lovely city with hills and valleys dense with foliage and beautiful bridges. It is a great place to stay near the city and take a day trip to the Amish country.

A relaxing, clean, beautifully decorated, historic inn. The sitting room with fireplace was particularly comforting after a long drive. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Top Local Tips for Pittsburgh

Cathedral of Learning, University of Pittsburgh This is an amazing building to tour. There are at least 24 classrooms which have been designed by different countries. We recommend paying for the audio-cassette tour. It's not very expensive, but there was a lot of information on the tape describing details you wouldn't notice yourself as you tour each classroom.

Surprisingly beautiful city I always had the impression that Pittsburgh was a dark and dirty mill town (like in The Deer Hunter). Nothing could be further from the truth. In the summer, walking the North Shore neighborhoods and over the many beautiful steel bridges over the rivers is a delight. The theater district, several excellent restaurants and the new baseball stadium are within a 10 minute walk. Take in the nighttime view of the city from from PNC Park's 3rd base seating or atop Mt Washington ! The Georgetowne Inn is a wonderful restaurant on Mt. Washington with amazing city views. For German food, try Max's Allegheny Tavern in the North Shore. For modern Itallian, try Abruzzi's near the 10th St bridge. Note that many Pittsburgh area restaruants are closed on Sunday evenings.

Taxis are expensive Taxi cabs are very expensive in Pittsburgh. A 5 minute cab ride cost over $10. Pittsburgh is definately a driving town, so either driving to go or renting a car may be beneficial.
