This hotel was an excellent choice, located on one of the scenic rivers of Pittsburgh. The staff were very cordial and helpful in making our stay an enjoyable one.

A little expensive for what your get

My boyfriend and I decided to stay at the sheraton for a night as part of a little "getaway". He recommended the hotel because he had seen it before and advised me it was very classy. The website was nicely done and online booking was easy. When we got there the first thing I was not happy with was the parking. I assumed that the hotel had its own lot. The parking was near the hotel but it cost us around $15 to park for the whole evening. The location was wonderful and I highly recommend eating at the Melting Pot. Its a expensive (around $100 for the two of us) but completely worth the money. The front desk at the hotel was polite but not exactly friendly. Our room was big and the view was spectaluar as our room overlooked the Pittsburgh skyline. We were on the 5th floor so the train running by wasnt an issue. Only downside to staying here was that in the morning we were getting ready to pack. Checkout was at 11am so we were up around 10; we didnt have the do not disturb sign hanging up. What disturbed me was that the maid knocked, and we did yell back that we were still there. She must not have heard us and started unlocking the door! Luckily for us there is a long hallway before the door actually leads into the room and the maid realized we were still there; otherwise there would have been a little bit of confusion and embarassment. All in all, it wasnt the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at but it wasnt that bad either.

Nice Anniversary Trip!

My husband and I wanted to go "away" for a few days to celebrate our 24th anniversary. Living 80 miles to the east, we decided a long weekend in Pittsburgh might be a nice break for us. We chose the Sheraton because of its close proximity to the Gateway Clipper and Station Square. The hotel is beautiful and was absolutely spotless. Check in personnel were friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was great ($16.00/person) with a lot of tasty food to choose from. Thick towels, an awesome view of the skyline and incredibly comfortable king bed. Only a few "negatives"--$16.00/day to park was a bit much considering the cost of the room per night, bathtub was a bit on the small side. Overall, a wonderful getaway. Would recommend not only the hotel but also the "Duck" amphibious boat tour(lots of fun on land and river) as well as the Clipper (romantic evening dinner cruise). Station Square has some nice shops--some resonable and others a bit on the pricey side. Bessemer Fountain was refreshing on a hot day and the Hard Rock Cafe had some nice souvenir ideas for us to take to our teenagers at home. Some persons may think the railroad trains going by the hotel were too noisy, but if you are a sound sleeper, this is not a big issue.

Location - Location - Location !!!

I won a free night in a luxury suite at the Sheraton Station Square and we just loved it. We ordered a couple Pirate baseball tickets online and took the water ferri over to PNC Park. The ferri was also waiting at the pier after the game was over to take us back to Station Square. We never had to use the car all weekend because there is so much to do and see right in Station Square.

Our room had a lovely king-size bed that was just heavenly, we both slept great. The room is pretty much sound proof because you hear nothing from other rooms even in the hall. The entire suite was spotless with plenty of thick soft towels, a hairdryer, and iron/ironing board. On TV you could choose from a list of movies that were still in theaters for an extra charge. You can also choose Nintendo games right from the tv for a charge, one controller is already in the room. We ordered room service for breakfast and were quite disappointed. We both got eggs over easy, bacon, and wheat toast. Our eggs were overcooked, the bacon was burned black and the toast wasn't toasted or buttered. The cost was over $57 for that breakfast so we weren't happy with that. The only other thing that may bother some people is the train that runs every 15-30 minutes outside the hotel. I didn't really notice it much but we were further away from it than some other rooms. If you get a city/river view room, you will hear and see the train. When it was time to check out, we did it on the TV. You can pull your account up on the screen and have it charged to your credit card. All in all I would recommend this hotel for its clean comfortable rooms and the location. We loved it!

A bit over rated

Our first impression upon driving up to the front door was a greeting by a door person who asked us if we needed help with our luggage. Since we were only staying one night and didn't have a lot of luggage, we declined. He rudely told us we'd have to go straight to the parking lot (without unloading at the front door). Another impression was a lovely, spacious "bar/gathering place" in the front of the hotel(atrium). However, if you are not a smoker, this may not be the place you want to spend too much time. We had a beautiful, comfortable room that faced the atrium. However, if you don't like staying up until 2:30 am listening to revelers from the bar below, this may not be the place for you. Oh, one more thing, be prepared to pay $16.00 a day for parking. Other than that, it was a great place to stay!!

We recently returned from a rather large dance convention at the Sheraton. The staff are exemplorary, absolutely wanting to do everything to make the stay enjoyable. There was a light that needed a new light bulb and someone was up to fix it in moments. Nice hotel pool. It was a great weekend. You can save a bit on parking if you arrive at daylight hours and park just down from the hotel in an outdoor lot. If not, hotel parking is $16 per day.

after x-mas get-away

Thanks to trip advisor we had a great get away for after x-mas. Shearton was above average, our room overlooked the river. The daily trains were a little annoying to one member of the party. We did stroll Pittsburgh downtown and felt safe. Went to Parami,s Bros for lunch a little disappointed in the quality of the food but the walk in the strip district brought back memories. Ate at two very excellent restaurants and the seafood was superb. The Grand Concourse for lunch next to the Sheraton was great service wise and quality. One evening meal was at the Monterey Bay restaurant in Monroeville. Definitely 5 star service, food and overall dinning experience. Did our walk and ride down memory lane through Oakland and Squirrel Hill, visiting the Cathedral of Learning . Sorry to see that Polis" restaurant in Sq. Hill just closed due to a family feud.

Once again thank you for all the sent in suggestions and comments. It truly did help us on our trip.

Terrible Hotel

We stopped at this hotel for one night on our way back to Chicago because we read good review on tripadvisor. However, the result is completely opposite and very dissapointing. The highlights can be summarized in the following points:
1. When we arrived, the entry hall smelled like cheap cigarettes with damp mopping clothes.
2. The room was dirty that we found garbage on the floor.
3. The hotel said they provided wireless connection. We had problem usnig the wireless service and the front desk gave us a number of the network carrier and asked us to call directly to solve our problem.
4. We didn't have any food and would like to order some room service. None answered the room service line so we call front desk and they told us since the business is slow, the manager decided to close out early.
5. When we finally got out of the hotel to get something to eat. Young kids drove by yelling at each other and screaming, preassuming under influrence.

Overall, the hotel charged you ~200 bucks for a motel level service and cheap quality. The front desk was not helpful and with certain attitude. (Hello, they didn't hire you to just stand there do nothing.) Oh yeah, as one reviewer mentioned, the train passed by so many time and you can hear each of them. Also you have to add $16 for an overnight parking across the hotel and when we brought our luggage out there's no person in the front desk trying to offer any help. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

Great hotel in a Great location

We were very impressed with the Sheraton. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgable (especially since this was our first trip to Pittsburgh, and we could use all the recommendations we could get!). The room was very spacious and clean, with a great view. Wireless internet in our end room was sometimes sketchy, and it took some tweaking to get it working, but it wasn't a big problem. The development the hotel is in (Station Square) is a great place to eat and walk around, and is within walking distance to the Monongahela incline.

We stayed the weekend of July 22nd, great location, nice clean rooms. Alot of great places to eat and see all within walking. Our only complaint was the service at breakfast, it was horrible the staff did not know if they were coming or going and for what the cost is you should not have to get up and pour your own water, chase your check down or wait 10 plus minutes to get waited on. We never tried lunch or dinner, so can't say what kind of service at those time.

This Sheraton is very nice for an upper-end city hotel. Check-in wasy easy, though not particularly friendly. The lobby bar is very comfortable and the pool is also very nice. They took us (for free) in the hotel shuttle across the river to downtown Pittsburgh.

Great views of Pittsburgh from the city-view rooms. Though one word of caution...there is a freight train line just below the city-view rooms. It runs all day and night, and woke us up each of the 2 nights we stayed. If you are a light sleeper, I do not recommend these rooms! They don't warn you about this.

Parking is $16/day at the garage across the street, though there may be cheaper parking elsewhere.

Top Local Tips for Pittsburgh

Have a Very Good Map of Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh is so hilly and so divided by the three rivers that it can be difficult to navigate. Traffic isn't as heavy or rude as in many other cities, but make sure that you have an excellent map of the city, because it seems like it would be easy to get lost there if you don't have your bearings. Also, be aware that if you visit in the winter, many of the streets are very steep, meaning that you should take extra care if there is any precipitation on the streets.

Get a car Wherever you go get a car or take a bus provided by the hotel. They know all the shortcuts and you will get to your destination on time taking a car!!
