The Latham has a good location in the city. It is a small, quiet, and friendly hotel. We have found it a reliable choice. We would recommend it to friends.

Best Value in Rittenhouse Square

from A TripAdvisor Member
You can not beat the Latham for the price. If you have any experience with boutique hotels, you will be very happy here. The point is that it is cozy. If you want a suite, book a room somewhere else.

The place is located in heart of the Rittenhouse Square. You have the best shopping in the city and some of the best restaurants in the country within a two block walk. You also pay half the price of other nearby hotels.

Not only is the full service restaurant (Jolly's) very good, the hotel offers a piano bar/ cocktail lounge at the other side of the lobby. Not many hotels provide so much under one roof.

Try the lobster ravioli or the ribs in the retaurant. You will be hard pressed to find a better food value in the city.

nothing special

My husband and I stayed at this hotel Columbus weekend 2004. I must say upon arriving in the lobby I was disappointed...it was pretty dismal. the elevator was cramped and I felt like I was back in a NYC apartment building (The hotel was a fomer apartment.. ) The room was ok comfortable, neat, clean no complaints other than the street noise, . Oh I did feel paranoid in the bathroom with only venetian blinds as the toilet was right near the window...(Although upon investigation from outside at night we looked up to our room and really saw nothing and the building across was vacant)..It was inconvenient not having an ice/vending machine..when I go away for a leisure trip, I prefer to be spoiled...this is not the place, but at the time the price was right. I prefer a bigger hotel with all the amenities. ..Would rather stay at the Radisson Warwick Plaza or the Omni.

t consider staying at The Latham

I called their 800 number to get simple information such as to the hotel's immediate area. The reservations clerk could not even answer my simple question about if the hotel is within walking distance to Race Street. I looked on the map and Race Street is closeby, yet maps are oftentimes inaccurate so that's why I called: to get a more accurate answer thinking the hotel staff would know. Gee, the clerk seemed to be from out of town; she had to go and ask someone else and came back with an 'I don't know' reply!

As to emailing the general manager, well, don't do it. It's been five days since I've emailed this person and I doubt I'll get a reply.

Therefore, in my opinion, guest service is lacking. I changed my mind about making a reservation due to this problem.

get what you pay for and maybe more.

Stayed last summer for 2 nites and had a great room, very quiet, very clean and comfortable bed. Room and bath looked like it could of been brand new it was so clean. The staff was helpful and courteous. The place has a great central location to some of phillys best dining and close enough to walk to the theaters. Sorry to read of others bad or poor experience but it just wasn't like that for me. I've always found that you get what you pay for most of the time and a $99 room in the center of phila. anyone should think that it's not going to be the four seasons or other 4 star. I don't think some travelers realize what you get for your $ and think they should get the waldorf astoria for $150/nite. JMHO. Bill.

Location is great

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed three nights. Room was nice, nothing special, but location was great for close proximity to the center of the city.

The staff was very helpful. Car was always waiting at the requested time, except for water main breakage in the street.

Hotel is within walking distance of many of the city sites.

Eh.

from KaraInPittsburgh
Was overall an okay stay. Room was slightly cramped, not really ideal for the business traveler. Desk was incredibly tiny, with no modem hookup (only one I saw was on phone next to bed). Bathroom very nice, but sink was regular size, so there was nowhere to put your personal items (forget about a curling iron). Room was not that noisy, but my travel companion on the 8th floor said his room was very noisy--garbage trucks, heating system, etc. Staff was friendly. No info in room as to dining, hours, assistance, etc. Might try a different place if I come back.

Mixed Reviews of the Latham

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was underimpressed after entering the lobby. Everything looked a little dingy, and somehwat worn. The staff, however, was very friendly and recommended a great place to catch a quick lunch or breakfast. The room was exquisitely furnished, with lots of ruffles and pretty bedspread/draperies; however, the hotel overall looked worn and in need of renovation. The bedtable had more scratches on it than a street post, and the fluorescent bulbs in all the lamps were not particularly "homey." Although there was a coffeemaker in my room, they left no coffee "condiments" (cream/sugar, etc.). There was no place in the hotel to get a candy bar or snack at night (not even a machine!). I had to crawl under the desk to find a place to plug in my laptop. And the hardware on the door made me wonder if the door was secure or not. All in all, while the Latham had a friendly staff and has made a real attempt to furnish their rooms well, they are in desperate need of a major renovation.

Good Experience

I stayed there in early August. The room was elegant and the room service was great. Very Friendly staff. Would highly recommend staying here. If I venture to Philly again, I will be staying here. :)

ll Be Back

I stayed at the Latham, October 2004. It was worth the price. The staff was most definitley attentive and freindly. At check-in, they worked with me to get exactly what I wanted and gave me the keys and encouraged me view several rooms that were ready and make a choice. Some of the rooms seemed a litle worn, but the one I chose, #601 had modern decor, a nice , well appoined bathroom and an "intimate", not sweeping, but nervertheless pleasing view of Center City Philly. I recommend the Latham for the freindly staff and great location that makes up for a little wear and tear on the facilities.

Never Again

from VeroBeachGal
I would never again stay at the Latham. I had the unfortunate luck of being on a room on the 13th floor right outside an hour long disturbance between 3 am and 4 am -- housekeeping left a vaccum out, didn't collect old room service dishes and drunk persons clattered over them, and began to vacuum at sporadic intervals for an entire hour.
Management actually admitted they did not know who the persons were as they were not guests - meaning a serious breach of security in my estimation. I had to ask for a reduction in my rate, it was not offered. Beyond this, the insulation is terrible, noise beyond belief, the rooms dated an in need of major renovation. Do yourself a favor and venture two blocks down to the Sofitel!
