A Nice Place To Stay

from childrens1
Just returned from a weekend stay at the Philadelphia Sofitel. This is definitely a hotel that we would recommend to others and would stay at again. Both my husband and I felt that we got a very good value for our money.

The hotel is centrally located. The staff is courteous and professional. They went out of their way to make sure that our stay was pleasant and that our needs were met. We chose not to spend the extra $30 to upgrade to a Jr Suite and were not disappointed in our room. We had a non-smoking superior room that was more than adequate size for two people. The room contained a safe, mini bar, large closet, good reading lights, iron and ironing board, two large comfortable chairs, two straight back chairs and a workspace with computer access. The bathroom was nicely designed with plenty of counter space, a full length mirror, granite countertops, and a separate shower. The Roger and Gallet products are an especially nice touch. There was turn down service each night. The hotel linens were not 600 count but better than average. While there are no duvets, the blanket is covered on top and bottom with a sheet, which happens to be a pet peeve of mine.

The only complaint we could really make was that the hotel charges $29 a night for valet parking. While we travel a lot and should be used to this we always feel that we are being ripped off with these parking rates.

This hotel is not a Ritz or Four Seasons, but they also don't charge the kind of rates you would pay at those hotels. If you are looking for excellent service, a clean and pleasant environment try the Sofitel.

Not the Luxury I expected

I 100% agree with the review before this. The hotel was fair- room was very small and cramped (coffee table was wedged between chairs and bed). Bed and sheets were the biggest disappointment. They were not much better than at the budget chains (Courtyard, etc.). On the bright side, the bathroom was very large with separate shower/tub and the products are quite nice. I am comfortable with this hotel because I paid $119 on priceline. If I had paid any more, I"d be annoyed.

Okay but not great

I just returned from a night at the Sofitel. Philadelphia and I would rate the hotel maybe a 3 or a 3.5 out of 5. Perhaps the glowing reviews here made me expect too much. The lobby is nice, the staff are very helpful but I thought the room left several things to be desired. Number 1 - someone mentioned Frette sheets - these aren't even 100% cotton percale – they are cotton/poly sheets by Dan River - check the label - about what you might find at a very average to low end hotel. The room was small - we had ordered a rollaway cot for our daughter - it was left in the middle of the room and not made up. I guess because there was no way to open it without completely blocking bathroom access. I love the cosmetic amenities (although we had no bathroom candle as others have mentioned). My big peeve - no wine in the minibar - what kind of French hotel is that???? The mini bar menu is even adorned with grapes - what's that about?
The bed was ok but nothing special - no pillowtop, no duvet - those are my 'musts' for a top hotel. Plain mattress, cheesy fleece blanket. There was a pamphlet with a beautiful featherbed. 250 thread count sheets and a duvet that you could buy... I found that very strange since it wasn't even in the room.
I'm travel a lot, enjoy nothing more than a great hotel. This was an okay to good hotel.

If you can't stay at the Ritz or Four Seasons, this is the next best thing. This hotel is new and the rooms are very nicely decorated. The bathrooms have separate showers and tubs. Everything is marble and you get nice french toiletries -Rogers & Gallet. It is close to Rittenhouse Square - nice restaurants and shopping.

Great Location, Great Hotel

from Cruisedave
Stayed at the Sofitel for my wedding night and I must say the room we had was wonderful. We had a Jr. Suite which was not much more than the regular room. Everything about the room was great. The only complaint I would have is that the shower pressure was very weak. But I'm glad I chose this hotel for my wedding night. If you're looking for a first class hotel in a great section of the city, I would say give the Sofitel a shot.

Sophisticated and friendly!

from Porsche_Guy
Many of the so-called sophisticated hotels employ staff that is alouf, disinterested and generally unhelpful. The Sofitel Philadelphia is not one of those hotels. We spent four wonderful days at this hotel and we were treated very well by the entire staff. The hotel and staff has an expected French flair. And everyone was warm and engaging. The public spaces are very contemporary and very well-maintained. The location near Rittenhouse Square is great and there are many nice shops and restaurantes within walking distance. We stayed in a Junior Suite because of the length of our visit. The room was very confortable and well-appointed, with extra touches such as robes, slippers, bathroom candles, and chic Roger&Gallet soaps. Stay at the Sofitel Philadelphia and you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful in Every Way!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I arrived late for a one night stay on business. I was sick with an ear infection and feeling very sorry for myself. From the moment I pulled up to the valet, the Sofitel enfolded me in quiet pampering. The desk clerk was charming, room service was quick and delicious, and the room was gorgeous, with one of the best bathrooms I've ever seen. I took a long soak in the giant bathtub, slipped beneath the Frette sheets and slept like a baby until my room service continental breakfast of homemade pastries and piping hot tea arrived. This hotel is a wonderful luxury experience at a reasonable price. I want to go to Philly again just so I can stay here!

My wife and I stayed there for a weekend in April, and we loved it.

The bathroom is to die for.

Designer Stay

from busnbay
My husband and I enjoyed a weekend at the Sofitel March 13-15. We had a King Jr. Suite. The room was amazing. Very Contemporary. Large foyer, sitting room and french doors to the master bedroom. The set up was great. We had requested a non smoking room and were not accomodated. I thought the room was a bit dusty but well maintained otherwise. All the details seem to be taken care of. Fresh flowers in the bathroom and a candle which was nice. The service in the restaurant was slow but the food was good. Great ambiance thoughout the lobby and public areas.
Very Euro feel which I loved! Overall a great place with an excellent location!

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

Antiques There's a famous street called Antique Row but for the best jewelry/small items and bric a brac the best place is Antiquarian's Delight and Funhouse - off South Street on 6th and 5th. You can do your South Street shopping straight after.

Reading Terminal Market If you visit Philadelphia, you have to visit the Reading Terminal Market at 12th & Filbert Streets (just above Market Street adjacant to the Convention Center). It is an eclectic mix of food stands - for purchase and eating. There is authentic Pennsylvania Dutch food, fresh produce and seafood. The French creperie counter offers DELICIOUS crepes.

Go to the Barnes Museum Set aside several hours and go to the Barnes Museum in Merion PA. There is no place to eat there, so have a good breakfast first. It has the most outstanding collection of 19th century art. Be sure to rent the audio guide.
